Lackluster indeed. But! All hope is not lost. There are going to be two main formats from now on- Modern Age, and Golden Age. So, lets see what can be come up with to help ol' Papa Spank out.
Modern Age- 300 points, Themed- Celebrity.
BatB LE Bruce Wayne- 33 pts
HoT R Venom- 72 (105)
JL Uc Zatanna- 72 (177)
HoT Uc Moonstone- 76 (253)
JL R Vigilante- 45 (298)
Well! Built for a budget, assuming you already have the LE, 2 Relatively easy to aquire rares, and 2 very easy Uncommons. PC/Outwit/Enhancement with Zatanna, RS+PB with SC, and later more OW. Venom is Venom, tie up extra special justice! Vigilante adds an overlooked twist from what i normally see in this style team. Transporter gives you a HSS attack with reduced movement for carrying, and reduced attack, but a free attack nonetheless. Leadership gives you a chance at a 4th action with this lineup, and incap lets him ding even the big guys the opponent brings. 4 clicks of willpower really shine on in a smaller figure like this, especially with those leap/climb clix to rescue venom or bruce. While there are better figures for those with deeper pockets or luckier tournament pulls (See Benjamin J Grimm, Edward Nigma, Power Man & Iron Fist), this build most people should be able to find and run. Does the team run fine without bruce- yes, but why should you always run the same old thing? A surprise mind control thrown into a game is a game WINNER if done right.
Golden Age- 300 points, Themed- Celebrity.
BatB LE Bruce Wayne- 33
+Contingency Plan- 12 (45)
SI R Howard the Duck- 35
+Contingency Plan- 12 (92)
IC Wasp- 24 (116)
Ico V Batman- 119
+Stunning Blow- 10
+Protected- 8 (153)
CD R Elongated Man- 47 (300)
Well now, a chance to actually Mastermind some damage away from BWLE. Infinity Challenge Wasp Rookie can carry him and soak for him as he gets wherever he needs to be. Both Contingency plans give The REAL Hero Gotham Deserves extra range, move or attack- whatever he needs to get the job done, and never requiring line of fire. All that willpower makes up for lack of TA- he should never need to see the 3rd click of his dial. Elongated Man is the opposite- push him right away to get the PC you need to back up Bats, but also to give you better chances at Mind Controlling the foes with Bruce.
Letting them get close enough to Batman, and carrying Bruce over can really change the course of the game. a 9 AV is nothing to sneeze at, honestly- especially when it can become a 12 with 3 tokens being popped. And, unlike Howard, Bruce is pushable for this. The risk isnt really worth Mental Shields to make him a true target- his slipping under the radar will really go far here. And with Batman on the table, he will slip under easily. Dont be afraid to push, or grab the big people- even if you leave him on his last click, think about how much you can really do with 33 points at that moment. also, Bruce is the hardest to obtain figure there- that batman is pretty rare, but still obtainable.
Well, there's my 2 clix. hope you enjoyed the read!
I miss? PC it. You hit? PC it. I hit? I can do better, PC anyways. You miss? I DIDN'T SEE SNAKE EYES, PC IT!
I keep looking at Bruce and thinking that there has to be a good team for him somewhere.
This was a good article. I think its a great idea taking figures that are hard to fit onto teams and showing ways to make some room for them. Good job!
Thank you! i really (dont hurt me!) see him as a totally useless figure. As a theme team era, his MM is really really horking. Outside of theme teams, he really REALLY shines. back him with a bunch of your support pieces to MC an opponent's support killer and send him right where he doesnt want to be. With all the new generics, he has a lot of support to choose from (even if he doesnt benefit from a lot of it, but look at those Guardsmen!)
But thanks for the fast reply, didnt think anyone was reading, haha

I really don't care what anyone else says no figure is completely worthless some might not be as good as other but hey I actually played a Masters of Evil (Keyword) Theme Team this last week, and I plan on fielding this piece in a tourney very soon. At a home game I used Starstruck Admirer feat on him and Icaped a War-Machine on his last clix koing him.
Sure he's not awesome but he's a fun representation of an odd storyline. I love it when there are very specific figures like this from brief snapshots in a character's run, my favorite being Gene-Grafted Brain. Heck, Kid Flash was only lasted three pages in Rogue's Revenge #3 but WK saw it fit to make him a fairly common piece. Props to them for the silly things like these that make me so happy to play Heroclix.
