So by Modern Age, do you mean the past decade? I thought the 80s and 90s were included in Modern Age but I'm not sure.

Nah. He's not the only one. While I have not put together a list, Final Crisis would be one I would definitely consider putting on it.

Kingdom Come and Starman were the two things that jumped out at me and inspired the question. I knew you had a time period in mind by their exclusion

The book I'd like to shoe horn onto a list of that time period is Jonah Hex. The problem is most the issues are one shots so it isn't a fair comparison. If you include books that exist outside cannon I'd easily pick DC The New Frontier as the top of the list from this time period.
