Holy Carp! Is anybody reading The Thanos Imperative?
Because I did and guess what? It was pitch perfect awesomeness wrapped in a stapled binder with covers. That's what.
If you haven't been following, there's an alternate universe that just opened up a rift, called "the Fault" that's been letting out all these nasty cthulu type monsters through it. Turns out they're from the "cancerverse" where death is no more. And it's leader, Lord "captain" Mar-Vell. His general the Magus was supposed to get rid of the "Avatar of Death"...which hasn't been revealed yet. It's supposed to be Thanos but that may be a red herring.
Makes sense and so subtle.
Lord Mar-Vell sent their version of Quasar to infilitrate our universe to take it over. However, the Shi-Ar, the Kree, the Inhumans, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Nova and the Nova Corps, Quasar, and now the Silver Surfer are going to make a stand against these undying nightmares. Well they're not "undying" but when Gladiator has a hard time killing one of the underling things....you know it's not going to be easy.
So this starts with Thanos choking the living carp out of Starlord where it takes Rocket Raccoon threatening Thanos with never dying to get him to stand down and the Guardians re-control Thanos with Cosmo, Mantis, and Moondragon psychically shutting him down.
Meanwhile Nova and Quasar are in the fight of their life when the REVENGERS (their version of the Avengers- Cthulu Thor, Ms. Marvel, GiantMan, Scarlet Witch, Cap, IronMan) smash into Nova Corps and take Namorita hostage thinking she may be the Avatar of Death. So Rich loses his Girlfriend. Now....it's personal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Guardians of the Galaxy make a deal with Thanos to take down these altuniverse people when all of the sudden the "Defenders of the Realm" a.k.a the Defenders show up (and they're cthuluDocStrange, Nighthawk,Valkyrie,Namor,Hulk,Hellcat, and someone else stand ready at the end of the issue to smash them into nothingness.
The character moments (and there were a ton of them!) just hit perfectly and I'm really looking forward to seeing where this title goes!!!!!
Nova and Quasar (and the Nova Corps) vs The Revengers and everything else in the cancerverse's fleets.
The GotG and Thanos vs. The CthuluDefenders
There are preview pages for issue #2:
Silver Surfer enters the fray. And the catch all.......
Galactus, Tenebrous, and Aegis stand observing these battles. UH OH!!!!!!
So if that doesn't sound like damn fine comic book storytelling...then I just don't know what else I can do for you. DnA are firing on all cylinders and this Sepulveda guy does some really dark, moody art. Really cool and a good feel for the storyline.
So sound off! Did you like it, read it, or hate it? And if you haven't even flipped through it....why the heck not????????
And on a personal note...I hope to God we get some of these characters made into heroclix.
I'm reading it, but its only so-so for my taste thus far. I will say that anytime Thanos got a few words in edgewise it was golden. Maybe once he completely wakes up and becomes the badass mofo we know him to be there will be something to write home about. The story is called "The Thanos Imperative" afterall.
The Best book Marvel is writing by far.......Why we need 5 Avengers, 4 Deadpools, and how ever many xmen or wolverine books they have....But they put Nova and GOTG on hiatus....
Did I miss the part where everything they are referring to in issue one happens? Last I read, was Thanos popping out of that cocoon. did I miss some issue, or is there a narrative gap they plan to fill later?
Of Course I am! As one of the premier Cosmic fans on this site, I have eaten everything up that Marvel can offer when it comes to cosmic stories and titles since I began reading comics all those many years ago.

.
That "someone else" is the Cthulu Silver Surfer ( although he's got fins and stuff ). Thanos Imperative has been awesome so far. I know it's still only a one shot and 1 issue into the mini but I am hoping it continues to rock and roll.
Now if only we could get DnA back on Legion of Superheroes over at DC ( Or a book following their Legion that they wrote bouncing around the multiverse looking for their home reality following the events of "Legion of 3 Worlds" ) then I'd be a truly happy cosmic camper.
