"GIANT SIZE (NON-OPTIONAL) This character can’t be knocked back, and ignores Plasticity. When this character is given an action that includes a close combat attack, it treats other characters up to two squares away as if they were adjacent unless blocking terrain, elevated terrain or a wall would otherwise block the line of fire. This character can make close combat attacks against elevated characters, even when this character is grounded. Characters with the symbol do not block line of fire to or from this character. This character and a character on elevated terrain draw line of fire and make ranged combat attacks against each other as if they were both elevated, but terrain effects still apply normally. This ability can’t be countered"
Just making sure I understand this correctly. A Giant now can use powers that require adjacency from 2 squares away (like Quake), but they still are not actually adjacent to the 2 square away character. For example, the Giant can still use Move and Attack (if it has the ability) when 2 squares away, but cannot use Poison against a character 2 squares away.
Also, as long as nothing else blocks the line of fire, the Giant and the 2 square away character can perform ranged attacks against each other.
This was covered in another thread, but it got pretty long and became a tad difficult to follow. So do I have it right? Thanks in advance.

Right, the two square adjacency is only for close combat.
A Giant can once again use Quake against figures two squares away, though it still cannot (if the giant is grounded) use it against an elevated figure.

In that case, the elevated is not blocking the LOF-- why is it that they cannot Quake against an elevated character?

I believe it's because even though Giants can make close combat attacks against elevated characters when they are grounded, they are not actually adjacent to them.
And Harpua, thanks for the confirmation.
Edit: Quake still specifically requires adjacency, while Flurry no longer does.

Quake requires adjacency.

QUAKE Give this character a close combat action; until the attack has been resolved, this character’s damage value is locked at 2 if it is greater than 2. Make a single attack roll and compare the result to the defense values of all opposing adjacent characters. Each character that takes damage from this attack is knocked back.
Giant Size creates adjacency to characters 2 squares away, but not to different elevations.

This is my source of confusion-- depending on where the two characters are, LOF isn't necessarily blocked.
It doesn't say "if there's elevated terrain" just "if elevated terrain would block LOF."
So in this case:
XXX|X
XGX|T <- target on elevated terrain
XXX|X
It seem like the giant would be able to quake, but in this one:
XXG|X
XXX|X
XXX|T <- target on elevated terrain
They would not.
Please clarify, because I have been attempting to up my level of literal and specific reading of rules, and this seems pretty clear to me.
Just for my own sanity, there's no issue of having to stop 2 squares away from a Giant, or them having to stop two squares away from someone else, right? That's, like, fully retro thinking?

It's hard to flush out old rules sometimes.
As I understand it, you are correct, which is also one of the reasons I created this thread.
And you're absolutely right.....you need to apply a JLA style mind-wipe, then read the BN Rulebook. That's what I did yesterday. The purpose of this thread was "did I get it right", and apparently I did. Which also confirms that Norm, Harpua, Quebbster, and normalview got it right with the rules overhaul. Good job guys!
Yeah, I'm with Ignatz on this one. I believe the intent of that wording was to describe adjacency being blocked by the various types of terrains.
I disagree 7, and it's because we have to forget what we knew before about the rules. Giants may make close combat attacks against elevated characters, but they are NOT adjacent to them. And the current wording of Quake requires adjacency.
Ignatz, I don't see LOF being blocked in your examples. The giant can still see onto the elevated terrain. I would think the example would apply to something like the zoo map from Icons starter. If the giant is standing on one side of a building that is one row wide, and a standard character is on the other, then you're blocked.

then you can't quake 2 people away.
The way it reads, when A giant makes a CCA characters that are 2 squares away are classifies as adjacent.
The part that harpua keeps pointing out is to clarify that if you are on different elevations you can still make CCA's against them as long as LoF is not blocked.
How could LoF be blocked? Barriar/blocking terrain.
I'm fine if it is ruled (say, via PG clarification) that Quaking the higher elevation is a-ok. I know that the goal was to make it all encompassing, but this apparently slipped through the cracks.
If nothing else, as pointed out above, one could say that "This character can make close combat attacks against elevated characters..." is really superfluous due to the line above it.
