5 Most Impractical Aspects of Superheroine Costumes
Ruby Rocket (a lady who dresses up in superheroine costumes for cons, you will see pictures of her throughout the article) and Cracked are going to tackle the problems with certain superheroine costumes.
I'll note that the "Material Concerns" part is a bunch of BS. Almost every superhero is wearing some skintight outfit, regardless of breasts or other considerations. Even the Blob, of all people, is wearing something that conforms to his body. If the article wanted to focus on superheroes in general, the comment might work, but it was definitely geared toward ridiculous things in the costumes of female supers.
That said, it's definitely stupid to find a superhero in high heels. I can somewhat understand if a flying, invulnerable superhero wanted to - because, hey, you're not going to get tripped up and using them probably won't hurt you in a fight. But otherwise? Stupid.
It's also worth noting that some female superheroes do "mask" up via wigs and the like. Though sometimes writers forget this and do...stupid things. Black Canary said she grew her hair out and dyed it blonde in Birds of Prey because the wig got too hot. And? The whole point of the wig was that it was part of her costume, it kept her identity secret. For that matter, Superman, Robin, Nightwing...a whole plethora of heroes really don't wear masks, so the comment on masked or unmasked female supers is a bit dumb.
Some good points are brought up in the article, but there's also a good taste of stupid.
I'm in Providence! I've been out of the hobby, but I'm looking for Saturday gaming. Send me a PM if you know the down-low!
Ah Cracked. I just came from there. And I read this article when it came out. Don't tell nobody.
I think I would have a hard time not laughing if somebody tried to stop me from doing crimes in a uniform that involved high heels in some way. That's the one thing in superheroine outfits that still strikes me as being sort of sexist-tightness and skimpiness are one thing, but most male characters dress in equally fetishy outfits. The high heels are just inexplicable though.

There was, back in the early 40s I believe, a crime fighter with no super powers but could kick some serious backside, was very good at finding clues and in general great at the whole stomping out crime.
He would done a woman's wig, dress, stockings and heels and go... fight crime.
Yup, I don't have many more details, as I first read about this character in Jim Stranko's History of Comic Books (Volume 1).
I am in awe of the cool and awesome people here on HCR!
Flying has been mentioned. So I just have to say if you can fly you aren't balancing any weight on any toes. May as well be stylish with your costume if you want. Now if you can't fly I don't see what benefit they would be.

Yeah, but since when is high-heeled boots considered "stylish"? :{P

In defense...I don't think there are clothes big enough NOT to conform to Blob's body.
God is smarter than we are....
