Here is a stab at two modern age teams for 300 points to be used in a semi-competitive event. Please respond by letting me know:
1) Which team is better (in your opinion)
2) Why that team is better
3) Suggestions to make either/both teams better (additions, subtractions, substitutions)
Look in my h/w list to see the figs I have available to me when you make a suggestion!
Team 1
Man-Bat Assassin w/ LoA ATA - 47 pts 0
League Elite w/ LoA ATA - 40 pts 0
Merlyn w/ LoA ATA - 62 pts 10
Karate Kid - 63 pts 0
Cosmic King - 85 pts 6 Total - 297
Team 2
Plasmus x2 - 160 pts 0
Cosmic King - 85 pts 6
AA Nightshade - 50 pts 6 Total - 295
Thx again for any help, rep to those who give me good advice!
Is there a particular reason that you are using Cosmic King on both teams? I'm guessing it is for helping your team move forward.
Personally, since you aren't worried about theme bonuses, I would replace Cosmic King with Talia for 86 points on team 1. You get stealth protection for her and can beat stealth which is a serious concern.
Everyone on your team then has stealth or the LoA ability, so if you can get next to walls, they can move forward without being targeted at range. So you don't need TK quite as much as you may think.

TK was part of the reason to use Cosmic King. The others are his leadership to give me extra actions, flying to carry ppl, and his wildcardness!! I see your point on team 1 but i actually cut her out as her damage potential wasn't good especially with a low av. the outwit is nice but i felt like cosmic king was a little nicer of a fit.
thx for the suggestion tho, it was still a valuable suggestion as it was something i had considered before as well.

Well you have two fliers already to tote your team around, meaning you will be ahead on actions. I would be surprised if you ran into that problem with this team at 300.

Talia has great damage potential. Psyblast, AV starting 10 as opposed to 9 on Cosmic King, and her attack never goes below 9. Plus outwit through stealth, you are in really good shape for damage.

No problem, I can have another look later when I get home from work. But honestly ... Cosmic King is a rubbish piece for his cost for competitive play. Great for LSV themeyness but you aren't going to get your 85 points out of him.

Of the 2 choices, Team 1 better fits my play style. I use a lot of Stealth, and I really like the LoA ATA. Merlyn makes a great over-watch type of figure, abel to make effective attacks at range while the rest of the figs close to hand-to-hand combat.
For either team, I would seriously consider removing Cosmic King for a more efficient piece. If you still want to use TK, I think Lyssa Drak is a great option. You lose Flight, but you gain Perplex and Barrier, and Lyssa is only 72-pts.
As Superclone stated, Talia is a very effective piece. She is not a primary attacker, but she complements Merlyn very well; Talia can outwit Stealth, and Merlyn can can blast for 4-clicks.

Okay, I am starting to see it now. I think I do like the Talia better in there instead of Cosmic King. Sure I'll lose some mobility but if I can reach some hindering or blocking with everything on Turn 1, I can just clear my stuff and go to town!
I do see Lyssa as a viable option. I kinda wish she had outwit sooner so I could use it for damage reducers. Barrier plays well into my Plasmus tie ups and I can still use here tk to get someone based with Plasmus so he can do his thing.
THX for all the great suggestions! Rep to the two of you!
On another note, does modern age use feats still since they have been printed in modern age legal sets? if so, for team two would you suggest Vendetta on the 2 plasmus and lyssa, shockwave on the 2 plasmus, or something else since I have 18 pts left?

if memory serves, modern age only allows for ata's and special objects.... no feats or event dials.
and agreed on the cosmic king... if you were looking for TK sling-shooting, Lyssa Drak would be a better choice. and yes, black-suit talia may fit for what you may want to do there... as long as there's the space for the 1 extra point
"A" is "A". And no matter what universe he's from, Luthor... is Luthor.

Modern Age does not allow use of any Feat cards; ATA's are no longer considered Feats.
I have never been keen on Shockwave:
Quote
Give the character a power action. Make a single attack roll and compare the result to the defense values of all adjacent opposing characters. Characters against which the attack succeeds are dealt no damage, but are knocked back 4 squares.
I would rather do 2 damage with Quake!
For Golden Age teams, if you do not want to add Armour Piercing, the next best Feat for Plasmus would be Entangle:
Quote
Entangle
Prerequisites: Plasticity
Choose a character.
Opposing characters attempting to target the character with a close combat attack must roll one six-sided die before making the attack. On a result of 1 or 2, the opposing character cannot attack the character. It is not given an action token, but it cannot be given another action or make another attack that turn.
followed by Camouflage:
Quote
Camouflage
Prerequisites: Shape Change
Choose a character.
When the character is adjacent to a wall or blocking terrain, any line of fire for a ranged combat attack drawn to the character is blocked.
For Modern Age, your choices are either Moloid at 15-pts, or 18-pts in Bystander Tokens. I like 3 x Lila Cheney (with 10SPD Phasing, she can maneuver around the board and act to tie-up your opponent's shooters, or to block LOF) or 3 x Joe Chills (Stealth).
So I just wanna say thx for the suggestion to use Lyssa Drak! OMG that team 2 was amazing!! It helped that he didn't quite figure out what I was doing with the team until it was too late.
After playing cat and mouse turn 1, turn 2 he grouped his guys together to block some line of sight.
I waltzed in there with my 1st plasmus via tk and tied up 2 guys and waltzed in with my 2nd plasmus and tied up the same 2 guys and 1 more.
Then nightshade used her smoke cloud to put smoke under each opposing character except for 1 (the non plasmus tied up piece, deadpool i believe)
Lyssa then perplexed nightshade's defense up. All his dudes failed to break away from my plasticity and the rest is history. Every tied up guy took 4 damage except that one extra dude took 3. One plasmus pushed to ko the guy that took 3 and the other plasmus made his first action to ko another piece that had take 4 damage.
after that, the game went pretty quick as I was able to rinse and repeat in two turns!
Wicked awesome team, I can't wait to try out the LoA team!!!
