Seems pretty straight-forward. DeFalco confirms on the Spider-Girl message board: “Anyway, Ron, Sal, Tom and I have been working on a new Thunderstrike limited series for a few months in what we laughingly refer to as our “spare time”. All I can tell you is that it will be set in the regular Marvel Universe and it’s loaded with twists, turns, action and angst–in other words–our typical fun & games thrill-o-rama!” DeFalco expressed surprise that the information was out there, writing, “I didn’t think that bio would be public until the actual convention in October.”

For the uninitiated, Thunderstrike is Eric Masterson, a former substitute Thor that ended up a hero on his own, an “everyman Avenger” wielding an enchanted mace (the titular Thunderstrike) provided by Odin himself. After a stint in Thor, he starred in an eponymous series for 24 issues.

A Thunderstrike miniseries is conceptually interesting, because he’s a character that’s stayed dead for a number of years, save being kinda sorta resurrected with a few other dead superheroes in the first year of Kurt Busiek’s Avengers run. Is he back? Does this miniseires take place in the past? Will he still be rocking the ponytail? Looks like it might be a little while before we find out more about this project.

I really liked Eric Masterson - he was a great character. I'll be paying attention to what De Falco does with this.

I will have to check it out once it makes it to trade format. But good news indeed as I like Thunderstrike as a character.

How can you not like a guy who has the cajones to face the Juggernaut and talk him down?

Despite a very 90s costume, Thunderstrike was great, 80s-style writing.

I don't know Thunderstrike much, since I took a break from most Marvel comics in the 90s, but the promise of 80s-style writing sounds pretty tempting.

...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.

my outstanding memory of tom defalco is those one panel comics in the middle of the STAN'S SOAPBOX page of marvel books. he was always smoking a cigar. they made him look like a total knob.

That, and often he wore a Viking hat in homage to or in comparison to Odin.

I don't really care for Tom Defalco really. He took everything that was cool about Walt Simonson's run and tossed it, then gave us huge doses of garbage.
