No matter how solid your strategy is, dice rolls can make or break a team. The luck of the dice is the one thing you can't control for. But Probability Control can let you... manipulate... a little bit. Read on to find who's the best at adjusting your odds!

Once during your turn, this character allows you to reroll one of your rolls, ignoring the original roll. A character using this power must be within 10 squares of the character for which the original roll was made, and have a clear line of fre to that character, including itself. Using the same rules, once per round during an opponent’s turn, this character allows you to force that opponent to reroll one of their rolls, ignoring the original roll.
What was once an oddball ability present on a scarce assortment of characters is now considered one of the 'competitive' team-building essentials; so much so that, when Wizkids wanted to institute a new rule to make playing theme more appealing, they made Probability Control the central bonus for following a theme.
Probability Control can have an incredible impact on characters, making even those low-attack characters more feasible. Hey, some guys just need a few more chances to land hits. It's nothing to be ashamed of!
Shh! I think he heard you!
Obviously, Prob Con has the largest impact when the odds are against the roll; you'll find yourself glad you have it when your opponent makes that unlikely roll to hit your Nightcrawler's 19 defense. On the other hand, it can act as insurance for easy attacks; when Bullseye misses a target when all he needs is a 4, a re-roll pretty much guarantees a correction. I'm no probability expert, but I hope someone who is takes the time to discuss it in the post-article discussion.
Today's PC Trivia:
-Probability Control used to be a very scarce power, showing up only on magic users, reality manipulators, and people who actually saw the future. The DC: Legacy expansion reinterpreted the ability as the ability to form contingency plans, and since then it's become much more widespread. Considering its popularity, it's a good thing too; Destiny could use the time off.
-By the time Marvel: Supernova hit, Probability Control was showing up on a record 14 dials. However, that was only spread across 8 individual characters; DC: Justice League had 10 individuals with the blue square, as did DC: Origin.
-Probability Control did not show up in a DC set until the third release, DC: Unleashed. Marvel already had it on 20 dials by that time, and even Indy had it on 4!
-Roughly one third of Probability Controllers are female.
-There are three animals with Probability Control. Don't ask me why Black Cat is one of those...
Though Peter Parker might have an idea...
Well, we'll give them some privacy and just move right along here...
The Most Popular Probability Controllers, according to the Units section's 5-star rankings, include:
-Dr. Doom (Fantastic Four Starter)
-Wiccan
-Kang (Rookie and Veteran, from Supernova)
-Thanos (also from Supernova)
-Circe (Arkham Asylum)
-Trigon
-The Flash (Crisis' dying version)
-Mr. Miracle (Rookie and Veteran)
-Sandman (Origin, who is incidentally the first character here to start with Probability Control)
-Elongated Man (Experienced and Veteran)
I can say that only one of those figures makes the cut today! So who will it be?

Destiny is as cheap as Probability Control comes, and her dial shows why. 0 attack is so bizarre, it's a novelty. I get that she's blind, but didn't Destiny carry a crossbow a couple times? Could have given her SOMETHING! In spite of that, Destiny became an incredibly popular figure, especially as a member of a 'pit crew' of essential supporting abilities.

Thankfully for fans of the character (does 3 pics in one article give away my fandom?), Black Cat was redone with a little more combative capabilities in the soon-to-be-released Web of Spider-Man set. But that doesn't make her a better Probability Control candidate that her original Clobberin' Time iteration. The experienced Black Cat stands out among PC-ers for her wildcard team ability, giving access to a wide array of team-provided abilities. If things get bad, Black Cat can contribute to the battle with short range and 2 damage. Her assets speak for themselves; to your opponent, Black Cat will prove more trouble than she's worth.

Over the years, iterations of Scarlet Witch have come and gone, each enjoying their time as 'essential Probability Control' figures. Infinity Challenge's Wanda was the cheapest option in a limited pool; Fantastic Forces gave us a Witch who can force Stealthed figures to reroll; and most recently, the Avengers set gave us the streamlined Scarlet you see above. Barrier gives a little extra utility to the Witch, giving her something to use her actions on when she's not carrying. Overcome the odd inaccuracies regarding abilities for a 'Rookie' incarnation who probably shouldn't fly, and you'll find yourself using Scarlet Witch more often than a bland Super Rare like her deserves.
(Speed) Alter Ego: Etrigan: Give this character a power action and replace this character with a Bold and the Brave #039 Etrigan on its orange starting line. Existing action tokens from this character, as well as action tokens and pushing damage for this action are applied to the replacement Etrigan. If replaced, no victory points are awarded for this character and the replacement Etrigan is considered to be 44 points for all game effects.

(Damage) Of Rhyme or Reason: Etrigan can use Perplex and Probability Control.
Alter Ego figures are making a big impact on the support role, carving out a niche as assisting abilities that become secondary attackers in a pinch. Most Alter Egos play nice with others until they transform into their heroic identities, shedding support powers for attack-oriented skills. But Etrigan, being the cool rhyming demon that he is, knows that just because you can spit fire doesn't mean you should stop contributing. He actually gains Perplex to add to the Probability Control he'd been using before. As if that weren't enough for a 44 point figure, Jason keeps the vengeance-inducing Mystics ability through his transformation, making him a great friend for Wildcards or acting to dissuade opponents from attacking him.
A rule of comic books appears to be that, if you're a bald chick, you have mental powers. A word of advice, bald comic heroines: just because Charles Xavier is one of the premiere psychics in comics doesn't mean you should style yourself after him. Jinx Experienced is the perfect balance of her three multi-tool versions: just enough combat capabilities without a restrictive price tag. Phasing gets your Prob Control where you need it, and Psychic Blast lets her attack of her own accord while ensuring luck is on your side. Like Black Cat, a Wildcard team ability gives her versatility. Jinx has seen her share of tourney roster spots, and continues to hold her own as a valuable team asset.
Thanks to X-Force, Domino is back en vogue. Unfortunately, her only clix sculpt to date is decked out in full-on 90's garb. If you can come to terms with that, a great dial awaits. 10 attack is a rarity among support-role figures, and 2 targets is all the more impressive. As if Probability Control wasn't enough to keep her safe, Domino has Super Senses and Stealth. For the player who likes to build teams where everyone contributes, Domino is a fantastic option for meeting the need for utility on your teams.

Not Spider-Man's foe (who I expect to get a lot of attention in the coming weeks), and not the Gaiman-created lord of dreams (we've now gotten Watchmen; suddenly the Endless don't seem so far-fetched). This Sandman is the JSA member who never seems to rest. Willpower out of Stealth, defense sharing, and Probability Control is enough participation in the battle to make you feel like Sandman has an effect on every action.

(Damage) Strategic Database: Danger can use Probability Control. Her powers can't be countered, and no opposing characters 10 or fewer squares from Danger to which she has a clear line of fire at the beginning of any action can have their combat values modified during that action if the modified value would be higher.
The Danger Room has always seemed like a character of the X-men univeerse, in the same way New York is a Spider-Man character (just ask Wizkids, who all but made it a Duo with BiBtB Spider-Man). I guess somewhere along the way someone (probably Joss Whedon) decided it might as well be. And the game of Heroclix is glad they did. Danger embodies the peril and overriding control of the famous training room, completely shutting off modifiers on everyone she can see. This non-standard ability accompanies Probability Control and a counter immunity for a board-controlling and option-restricting special power. Add a menacing dial design and Danger quickly becomes the self-sufficient tentpole who will ensure everything goes her way.

(Speed) Confined to the Rock : (non-optional) The Wizard Shazam! gains Earthbound/Neutralized, and can't be carried or the target of the Telekinesis power option 1 or 2. (Damage) View from Above: The Wizard Shazam! can use Enhancement and Probability Control. When he uses Probability Control, he may target a character anywhere on the map.A bit of a novelty figure, this mystical take on Billy Batson has a Probability Control that I can't pass on mentioning here: no line of sight or range limitations. Which is good, because he's apparently confined to the rock (which still lets him take move actions?) and won't be maneuvering for that perfect line of sight anytime soon. That's fine, because once he's beat past his support role, he'll be moving aplenty. This figure is one of those cases of 'kill early or regret it later', and he doesn't make that an easy proposition either.
Well, that covers Probability Control! Did we cover everyone you love? Join in on the discussion following this article and let us know who you use for all your PC needs!
Next week we'll be off for the release of Web of Spider-Man, but come back in two weeks to find the best of Shape Change!

Rocket Racoon deserves a nod. A bit on the expensive side, but he has Leap/Climb to get into position, Super Senses to protect against attacks... And thanks to the Guardian ATA none of his powers can be Outwitted.
BTW, why was E Jinx chosen above the R and V, and why was V Domino chosen above the RE?
Quebbster's so quick on the draw (not to mention a mod) that he got to read this before it was finished! Hopefully those questions are answered once the individual fig commentary is completed! And Rocket's nod is in the Animals trivia; he's the entire reason I included that bit.
I usually reach for E Jinx - she's more push-able than the R and a bit more economical than the V. I don't think the V has a substantial attack upgrade either.

Don't worry, I can also remove my posts if necessary. Just figured Rocky would be a lock for this one.

IMO 8 range is substantially better than 6 range. Definitely a case of YMMV though.
And hey, the Veteran Jinx can be assigned The Society ATA to get some Outwit protection!

I do love mental-powered baldness as a comic staple. From Lex Luthor to Moondragon, and more - it's like all those electrons firing in brain cells somehow shorted out the hair growth.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree that Rocket Raccoon should have been included in this. I use him a lot b/c he does so many things so well. The fact that his PC can't be outwitted, I feel makes him a lock for this. I especially like him more than Sandman and Jynx. But hey thats the awesomeness of this game. No two teams are alike and some people prefer different figs for different reasons. Also cool article. Lastly did I mention that I'm a huge Rocket Raccoon fan both in the game and in comics?

I have always been a fan of the rookie Scarlet Witch from Fantastic Forces. 35 points, 10 range, stealth and Brotherhood for free move. The 8 AV and 2 damage isn't bad either for picking off support pieces.
I've got to pipe up to mention the Vet Scarlet Witch from FF. Ultimates TA and Stealth make her entire dial of PC really useful. The 10 range even helps her poke at people across the map.
I can't argue with not putting her on the list a few times, but she is the quinticential PC character.
