After seeing the pole question today I decided to write a short "THANK YOU" to Wizkids! I believe that this new format of 16 SR's and 0 Chases is great for the game and venue support. Most of the small brick and mortar stores are in desperate need of support and as a judge I have seen this support happen more with this set because of the new 16 SR structure than with previous sets. As with previous set's by the end of week 2 most players had almost every piece so there was less of a need to purchase more product, which is not the case with the Web of Spider-Man set. This new format has caused an increases of the weekly turnout's over the past 2 week's of sealed events where my venue is averaging 10-12 players and that is 2x's a week~YEAH! Even after 2 sealed events most players are still in need of a few SR's, which was not the case in the last set, and this is leading to more venue support with more product purchased. Basically, WIZKIDS this format works well and I just wanted to say "THANK YOU!"
Dude, there still are chase pieces. You've Ben Cheunged.... by nightcrawler. Is that horrible that I just made a pun out of some guy's name? Oh well...
I think what everyone wants to see are chase pieces that aren't DIFFERENT than the normal 1-60/64 set. Getting a chase piece then will really only matter to collector's and rabid fan followings of Ben Cheung... so basically a clix version of the "foil rare".
I don't think you can say the success of this set had anything to do with having 16 SRs and no chases. The fact that it was a Marvel set and the fact that it was focused on Spider-Man the most popular of all Marvel characters had absolutely nothing to do with it.

SURE, it does not hurt the popularity of this set being based on one of the most iconic figures in today's comics! After 2 weeks of better than average sales of this product at our venue, I consider this format very successful! Not to mention I hate chasing down chase pieces, and I do not consider the night crawler piece a chase piece, lets say what it really is, just a "variant."

Um, it's a chase piece. I don't want to argue over the exact same thing, because you're right, it is a variant. A variant put in roughly 1 in 10 cases. Thus making it a chase piece. Chase pieces traditionally have a stupidly low probability to pull. So, for example, The wall-web-crapping spider men in the set are all variants... but they're not chase pieces because they're in the common/uncommon slots and can be had at that expected pull rate.
In an odd twist, I see myself buying more product with this set because of a lack of chase figs. I set aside X amount to spend on a release. Usually I have to figure paying for the chase figs in that money, so once I hit my CURSr set I stop buying boosters... my money goes to the secondary market for chase figs. With this set there is no reason for me to hit ebay for the Doppelganger (for example). I can keep buying boosters, knowing that I'll hit another SR that I can trade for him.

I think you are correct. It appears Marvel sets always sell out faster than DC sets. Most of the stores I visit in this area still have a lot of DC boosters on the shelf, while the Marvel is gone.
im also digging this set and the distribution format! the only gripe i have regarding distribution is this: i have more ben reilly and peter parker than i do nurses, muggers and researchers. this makes little sense to me. if you want to support the minion mechanic shouldn't they be more common than say petey and other known characters? fielding an army of peters is just creepy to me unless of course i throw in jackal, but yea i want an army of muggers!!!!
to put it in perspective, i have about 8 muggers and i lost count of the parkers....i've bought 2 cases and a brick.
but otherwise this set is pure gold and i as a HUGE spidey fan, sincerely thank you NECA for making what in my opinion is the BEST set ever released!!! thank you thank you thank you!!
Exactly, and the nightcrawlers are roughly one per case....
No, not really. We opened over 100 cases for this set and found that only 62 Nightcrawlers where pulled. That's 38 cases (or more cause I stoped counting after the 100th case) without Nightcrawlers in them. And out of the 62 Nightcrawlers, we only found one of the variants. Somehow, that "1 in 10 are variants" and the "roughly one per case" numbers don't add up. Not trying to be a dick here, just saying is all...
Seriously, 100 cases? Who has that much money and who are the group buying that many? Jesus, that would be 10,000 figs! Or did you mean boosters?
No, I meant cases. Matter of fact, there were about 200 cases total in the storage area.
It's not a case of who has that much money. These are for a store that sells lots of complete sets and singles. As many around here know, the man known as comical here the Realms runs a big HeroClix store. I judge the tournaments at his place and I help him with the opening and sorting of cases, boosters, and single figures when new sets come out.

It's not being mean at all But it does exacerbate my point about there still being hard to get figures. Blows that you guys didn't get more...
