Didn't know these, I love them both. The original wins for being simple and joyful.

Wow. To me, the Skynyrd version IS the original. I didnt know JJ Cale was the originator of that tune. (I'm learning a lot in these threads.) After hearing the true original, Skynyrd just doesn't hold up.

Pretty solid vote for Lynyrd Skynyrd. More rocking, less country sounding, and that fits me just fine.

I love Skynard, but JJ Cale captures the blues sound of the song so he gets my vote.

It occurs to me that I haven't voted on this one

This song is tied with Freebird as my favorite Skynyrd song but the J.J. Cale version is equally awesome and J. J. Cale deserves iconic status whether he seeks it or not. I don't know if he's ever been put in the Rock and Roll hall of fame but he should be there.
