View Poll Results: Should the Mutant Keyword return in GSX?
Yes! It should never have been removed in the first place! Power to the people!

No! It would imbalance the game. Damn dirty muties!
While we're still on DC 75th euphoria, let's throw this oft-debated but ignored concern: Within the comics, new mutants are being born after House of M's climactice "No more mutants"-hex by a deranged Wanda Maximoff. But the Mutant keyword has been on the backburner like an ugly stepchild and yet more generic keywords (teens, scientist, soldier and mystical) have been prospering.
So, is GSX the perfect time to bring back the favorite scapegoat tag (used as a metaphor for other "minorities") in the Marvel Universe? Yay or nay?
I seem to remember a while back the designers decided that the 'Mutant' keyword was going to get out of hand and declared that Monsters and Mutations would be the last set that included it. I didn't agree with that, since there are only a set number of mutants in the Marvel universe, and they are one of the few generic keywords that actually could work together as a team in the books (can you see Dr Doom, Lex Luthor and Kang working together as a well-oiled machine, I think not). The Martial Artist, Teen, Brute and Scientist keywords include WAY more figures than Mutants ever would have, but with that being said, I wouldn't hold you breath waiting for them to bring it back. Much like the Morlocks and Serpent Society TA's, it will probably remained dead and buried.
I hate generic keywords as well. Isn't the purpose of the Theme team bonus to build teams of heroes to simulate what happens in the comic books? lets get rid of the generic keywords all together already!
No, because I'm not particularly keen on 75% of the GSX set having the same keyword for draft. It's going to make things absolutely ludicrous.
By the way, not that collectible card game mechanics are really that comparable to miniature game mechanics, but seem to recall the VS card game coming out with a card that let you play X-Men and Brotherhood in the same deck. Sort of a "mutant keyword" team, if you will. A lot of people I talk to said that this particular card basically killed tournament play for the entire game from that point on.
I don't know what point I'm trying to make, because it's very late here, but I thought it was pertinent.

Eliminating "Mutant" was an important first step toward eliminating the horrid "Teen", "Scientist" and (gasp) "Martial Artist" keywords, moving us to an age where theme team bonuses are reserved for actual theme teams. Bringing it back would basically grind that to a halt, ensuring we're stuck in generics-ville forever.
With the huge number of characters in Marvel comics that are identified as Mutants, and that list growing as retcons remove some of the more questionable origins and replace them with "born that way" as a cop-out, Mutants are not something that can be considered a minority in Heroclix. Mushpotting X-Men, X-Factor, X-Force, Excaliber, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Hellfire Club, and Morlocks all into a single, all-encompassing keyword would be as rediculous as taking Skrulls, Parademons, Martians, the Inhumans, Asgardians, Guardians of the Galaxy, and almost every Lantern of any color, then uniting them all under the single keyword of "Extra-Terestrial". Hey, if they don't live on Earth by default, that should be a theme team, right?
