Over the years, rules questions come up. Over and over again. Many times people either don't know how to search, or they use search and find too many threads, or they find a thread in which there is so much back and forth, that instead of reading to the end, they just post a new question.
It's hard to find just what you need.
When we started with rules deputies, people were able to feel comfortable that they were getting something guaranteed to be "take it to the bank right". The fact is that sometimes new questions are subject to interpretation and what we knew before may not be consistent with what's planned for a new mechanic. As a result, deputies may disagree with one another and/or me. And that's ok. No one said that the minutiae was easy.
In an effort to make finding the "right" answer easy, HCRealms has generously given us this space to facilitate communication. In this forum, you will never find more than one thread on a subject. If there is a question about how Figure X interacts with Special Object Y, there will be a post both for figure X and for Special Object Y and they will each address the interaction. But figure X will have only ONE thread.
You'll notice that you cannot create new threads here nor can you reply to any thread. This is not an error. This place will be a research area. If you have a question about something, please feel free to link to these threads, but you should be asking your questions in the parent forum "Rules of Combat".
It's also worth pointing out that, in this forum, all 4 of us (me, Harpua, normalview, and Quebbster) have been given permission to edit all posts. What that really means for you is that you should never say "I saw in a post by NBPerp that he said...." because it may be that I created the initial post, but one of the deputies edited it to say what it needed to for the current post.
Most Posts
As for the posts in here, every post (except the Stickys) will have a prefix. That prefix tells you what kind of game element the post is for (Figure, Special Object, Feat, etc.). After that, there is a set name, the element number, and a description. It should make finding the thread you want very easy.
Within a thread, the first post will always contain
a) All of the game element text. If it is a character with a trait and 2 special powers, they will all be in the first post.
b) Any game element text that has been updated will ALSO have the current errata'd wording.
The second post will have Q&A style information. Depending on your personality, you might call these "rulings", you may call them "clarifications" you may called them "FAQs" or any combination thereof. We aren't going to categorize them for you. We're simply going to communicate to you how we would answer the given question if it were to come up in a tournament. Would your judge use the same ruling? We can't answer that question. SHOULD your judge use the same ruling? Well, if you're asking us, obviously, we feel that is the ruling they should use. But what's here IS the ruling you can expect to see at any event where one of us is the head judge.
The "Parking Lot"
Now, since some questions lead to answers where we disagree and/or we just don't know the right answer, we're going to start a sticky thread in this forum that lets you know which questions we are still waiting on an answer. Ultimately, these questions will be resolved and show up in their appropriate game-effect-related thread. But the parking lot gives us all a snapshot of what things are still "up in the air".
Depending on which of us is updating the post and what info we have at the time, there may be a preliminary answer. There may be multiple answers with different reasoning suggested. There may be no answer. But at least we'll all be able to know just what it is we don't know.
Again, while you can't post in here, you can help. If you see what you feel is an inconsistency, then in the Rules of Combat forum, bring it up. Between me and the deputies we'll address questions as we always do (though I suspect some of us will answer briefly and provide a link to these threads for more detail) and if we end up needing to address it later, it'll go into the parking lot.
In an effort to facilitate communication, when I'm 99% confident that a specific change is going to be put into the next Player's Guide, I am going to list it in the Final Word post as the "draft errata". When the errata is published in that following PG, then we will fix the title to "errata". That way you can know which things we are confident are how "it's going to be" and which things are reflections of what's in the Player's Guide.
