I've always hated John Anderson's voice but I'm not letting that be a factor here. John Anderson gets my vote.

Original - Dire Straights

I've always liked this number from Dire Straits' last studio LP and I do like what John Anderson did with it. But it's hard for me to prefer 'most anyone over Mark Knopfler.

That said...

I listened to John Anderson first and got excited because I thought Mark Knopfler was going to buzzsaw through some awesome 'chicken pickin' but it wasn't to be. I hate to admit this, but I actually liked John Anderson's version better.

Here's an amazing video of Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse with his old band the Dixie Dregs in what may possibly be the finest example of Chicken Pickin'.

Ready will probably drop his jaw listening to this country inspired piece by the guy I think is one of the top two country guitarists ever (Albert Lee will always be my #1), and most likely Steve is top 10 metal too.

From the first time I heard Sultans of Swing, I bought everything I could that Dire Straits ever did. TRULY one of my all time favorite bands. And they sure don't disappoint here, its another great song. They can do any kind of music well. But this song was MADE for John Anderson's voice.

Both of these are great! Love 'em!

I enjoy both but John Anderson edges out Dire Straits for me on this one.
