I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
I bought the album Ghost Riders when it came out around 1980, and it has lots of great music on it. Still listen to it. I enjoyed at least hearing the Burl Ives version, but probably won't listen to it again. So:
What was I just saying in the last thread about getting a little bit of everything? Burl Ives?
Well, I have no problem with Burl Ives in general, but his voice just didn't seem to work for this song at all, original version or not. I'll cast another vote for the Outlaws.
The deal on Burl Ives is that the song was written in 1948 and he was playing to a more staid audience. This is a heavily covered song and I had a huge selection of artists I could have gone with.
I was surprised to find out that Burl Ives was the first one to do this, but what are ya gonna do?

Gotta go with Sam the Snowman on this one. I enjoy his pickin more than the charged up electos in the Outlaws version. Burl Ives for the win! Plus to me, The solo voice(while Ives' isn't the greatest voclaist) is definitely better than any sort of harmony on this tune, especially on the "yippie aye yay" part. And I hate the ending rip on the Outlaws version as well.
Burl Ives has the kind of voice that is great for folk tunes and christmas songs. It wasn't meant for this kind of song. Ugh, I hate voting for the Outlaws , so I'll go with Burl Ives anyway!

Still think you should have put up this cover. Tire irons aside, it's tight musically.
I'm barely into the song and I already hate the vocals. The musicianship is good but the vocalist can take a hike.
