As there have been many repeated questions, and some heated discussions about several of the pieces from this set. I figured a GSX answers thread would be useful. I am going to do my best to maintain this thread and keep it updated as more information comes out.
Please let me know if there are any other common questions that have been asked that I’ve missed. I will also post links to where these questions were answered/debated
Also, while I have asked and had several people review it, I am certain that I may be incorrect on some of these things. I just now, before I posted it, saw an answer that I had missed. If you have an answer, I will update/change anything that I have posted.
Colossal Size
What abilities does a colossal fig get?
“A character with the colossal damage symbol is a colossal, and has the Colossal Size ability. Colossal characters also might have special rules that are provided on the character’s character card or on a separate rules sheet.”
“COLOSSAL SIZE (NON-OPTIONAL) Only characters with the symbol block lines of fire to or from this character. A character with this ability ignores the effects of hindering, elevated, and outdoor blocking terrain on movement. This character can’t be knocked back and can make ranged combat attacks against non-adjacent opposing character when they are adjacent to opposing characters. This character and a character on elevated terrain draw line of fire and make ranged combat attacks against each other as if they were both elevated. When this character has two action tokens, it can be given a non-free action. After the action resolves, deal it 1 unavoidable damage and do not remove action tokens from it at the end of the turn. This ability can’t be countered.”
Do the new colossi get any special immunities or other special powers?
Nope, nothing over what is listed above or if it’s on their card.
But how about breaking away for free?
Does it say so in the Colossal description? Nope? Then no. Some of the old colossi could do this, but only based on special rules associated with the figure, not from being colossal. Without special rules, colossal figures do not have these abilities.
But the old colossi got free multi-attack and could push for free, can’t these do that too?
Sadly, the answer is still no. Is it listed on the colossal size ability? No? Is it on their card? Then no. As stated in the new PG however, the colossal size ability now provides the ability to push an unlimited number of times for the cost of 1 pt of unavoidable damage each time. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
What about destroying terrain when they step on it?
While the prison map is going to be a real pain, the answer is still no. It’s not in the colossal power description so, no soup for you!
What blocks line of sight to a colossal?
Only another colossal, blocking terrain, elevated terrain or walls. If a character is elevated than only elevated blocking terrain will block LoF. Also, if a colossal is on elevated terrain, and a 'standard' character is on elevated terrain, walls and blocking terrain would block LoF. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
Can a colossal figure make a pulse wave attack there is an enemy figure adjacent to it?
Yes.
Can a colossal figure make a pulse wave attack if the only figures in its line of fire are adjacent to it?
Can a figure see a colossal through a door on an outdoor map, if there is another figure in the way?
Yes and no. As written, the rules forbid a character in outdoor terrain from targeting a character in indoor terrain, but not the other way around. (Per http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308968 I'm told this is in the parking lot for the Deputies to look at.) However, if it were an indoor map, than there would be no problem with it, and the character or the colossal could see each other. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
Now, yes as Krakoa is not a character nor is it an opponent to anyone, than it may do so. On the same note, you could not use Prob Con on this attack role, as Krakoa is not a character. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
Figures
Rogue
“POWER ABSORPTION: Once during your turn, you may give Rogue a free action and choose an adjacent character and a standard power (other than Outwit or Perplex) that they can use. Until your next turn, Rogue may use the chosen standard power. If Rogue has no action tokens or the chosen character is friendly, deal 1 unavoidable damage to the chosen character.”
Can Rogue steal a second defense ‘reducer’ power and have both invulnerable AND Impervious?
Yes and no. Yes you can steal impervious, but you cannot use it as well as invulnerable. You could use it instead, but not in addition to. (see new PG http://wizkidsgames.com/wp-content/u...ge_2011_03.pdf) You cannot ‘stack’ reduction powers, but could steal Super Senses and get a roll to avoid the damage etc.
When is the 1 pt of unavoidable damage dealt? And if a character loses their powers because of it, does Rogue lose the power she just stole?[indent]It is dealt as soon as she has stolen the power, and no she does not lose the power if the opponent loses their power. Her power is still in effect until start of your next turn. updated 3/25 12:00am
Tabitha Smith http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showth...=304204&page=5
“Timebomb: Give Tabitha Smith a power action and place up to two hindering terrain markers in non-adjacent squares, that aren't blocking terrain, within range and line of fire. At the beginning of your next turn, remove them from the game and deal 2 damage to each character occupying one of those squares and 1 damage to each other character adjacent to one or more of those squares.”
The power says 'non-adjacent', is that non-adjacent to her, or to each other?
The Time bombs can be adjacent to Tabitha, but not to each other.
How much damage do the time bombs do to a multi-based figure?
2 if placed directly underneath. Because the time bombs say each OTHER character, there is no way to stack damage. This includes on colossi that might be able to fit 2 bombs underneath because it's still a character occupying one of the squares.
Can you place Time bombs under characters?
Yes
Can you place Time Bombs under characters in stealth?
Yes
Does Armor Piercing work with the Time Bombs?
This is in the parking lot. Some Deputies say yes. Others say no. Awaiting a decision.
"Layers of Extra Fat: Blob Ignores all but 1 Damage Dealt to him."
How does Blob's power interact with penetrating damage?[indent]Blob's power works despite the penetrating damage. For example, Exploit Weakness, Psychic/Penetrating Blast does only 1 damage to blob per hit.
How about Bombastic Bagman's trait?
"KICK ME!: Whenever Bombastic Bag-Man takes damage from an attack, deal the attacker penetrating damage equal to the damage taken by Bombastic Bag-Man. Bombastic Bag-Man can't be healed except by the Fantastic Four team ability."
This works the same as EW or P/PB. Blob's power ignores all the damage but 1.
Does this power work with Master Mind?
Yes. It is damage.
What about Life Model Decoy or the new Gem? If the Blob gets toughness is he immune to damage?
No. The damage is reduced before it is effected by blobs powers. So if he was dealt 3 damage, it would be reduced to 2, than his power would ignore everything other than 1 of it. However, like normal it would mean that an opponent would have to do at least 2 damage to Blob to hurt him. updated 3/25 12:00am
“IN CONTACT WITH CEREBRO: If Professor X is in your starting area, he can draw lines of fire and count Range for his Speed, Attack, and Damage powers from the square of any friendly character with whom he shares a keyword.”
Can Professor X use Outwit and perplex on a figure, using an ally?
It is believed so. For the most part it has been agreed to in discussion, but need a Deputy to bless it. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
At what range would it happen?
If it is blessed, Standard range for that ability, in those two cases within 10 squares updated: 3/24 10pm EST
If I wanted to get a benefit from an enhancer/defender etc, would they need to be near Prof. X or near the guy who he is using to make the attack?
Adjacent to Prof X. He is the one making the attack, he just uses another character to draw his line of fire.
If Prof. X missed an attack, who would someone need to have LoF to, to allow the attack to be rerolled?
Prof. X . He is the one making the attack, so someone has to have a clear LoF to him to allow him to re-roll. Same goes for him giving a re-roll to someone on his team. It is believed he cannot use ICWC to give a team prob con. Need a Deputy to bless this.
If Wolverine is adjacent to Sabertooth, and Prof. X wants to use a psychic blast on Sabertooth, can he? Can he make a ranged attack against someone who is adjacent to the person he’s using for LoF purposes?
Prof X has 2 lightning bolts, can he use 2 characters to draw LoF to 2 different opponents?
Unknown. Waiting on a Deputy.
Can Prof X use his trait only on powers he ‘possesses’ or on any power he can ‘use’?
Unknown, waiting on a Deputy.
Sabertooth http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308927
“MORTAL WOUND: When a character takes 3 or more damage from Sabretooth's attack, that character can't heal for the rest of the game even if this power is countered or lost.”
Does Mortal Wound trigger when Sabertooth hits for 3 damage or when someone clicks for three damage?
There is a simple formula that needs to be used: Damage dealt – Damage Reduced = Damage Taken. Mortal Wound requires that Sabertooth’s victim take 3 damage.
What about Phoenix and her Phoenix Reborn power? Would Sabertooth’s power stop her from coming back, assuming she had ‘taken’ 3 damage?
Yes
If Phoenix is on her last click, and then Sabertooth hits her for 3 damage, does she die or does she get to heal?
She dies and doesn’t come back. Even if she only clicks 1 space (because she moves to the KO line) she still takes 3 damage total and is subject to Mortal Wound. According to the latest PAC:
“Damage Taken : The amount of damage a character takes is always considered the total amount that would be taken assuming the figure is not KO‘d or the dial is otherwise stopped while turning."
If Sabertooth hits a White Lantern, who goes 2 clicks and gets stopped due to a live click, are they able to heal?
No. They have taken 3 damage, despite the fact that their dial may have only clicked 1 or 2 times.
Does ‘Mortal Wound’ stop a character from using support on another character?
No, the character affected by Mortal Wounds is unable to be healed, but is able to heal others. For example, Phoenix would be able to heal another with her support but would not get the benefit from her Phoenix Resurrection
Juggernaut http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=308867
“MYSTICAL HELMET: At the beginning of the game, place a helmet token on this card. While that token is on this card, Juggernaut modifies his defense by +1 and can't be targeted by Incapacitate, Mind Control, and Penetrating/Psychic Blast. When Juggernaut takes 3 damage from a single attack, remove the token.”
If someone hits Juggernaut for 4 damage and he reduces it by 2 from invulnerable, does his helmet come off?
No. Just like with the Sabertooth ruling, he must ‘take’ 3 damage for his helmet to come off.
If my opponent uses Structural Integrity Field, what happens? "Blocking terrain and walls 6 or fewer squares from this object can't be destoryed."
Since Juggs ignores terrain he moves through both the blocking and the hindering, but because it is reinforced the walls are not destroyed and no debris is left; essentially, Juggs vertical/horizontal movement now resembles that of a phaser.
Magneto
If Magneto is adjacent to an opposing figure, may he use TK option 3 to throw an item at someone?
No, TK option 3 is a ranged combat attack and he is unable to make a ranged combat attack while adjacent to an opposing figure.
“CHOOSE ME! I'M WAY COOLER: (non-optional) Once per game when this power is first revealed, choose Cable or Deadpool and this character has "standard attack symbol". If you chose Cable, this character can use Penetrating/Psychic Blast and Telekinesis and modifies his damage value by +2. If you chose Deadpool, this character can use Perplex and Regeneration and modifies his attack value by +2. This power can't be countered.”
If you chose Deadpool, and regenerate over this special ability, do you get duo attack back, and do you lose the special bonus?
Yes, you would have all of the appropriate powers from the click you are on. However, you have already chosen Deadpool and when you click back to this click, you will still have the Deadpool powers.
Colossus/Wolverine “FASTBALL SPECIAL: Give Colossus / Wolverine a ranged combat action as if they had a range value of 8. If it succeeds, after actions resolve you may place Colossus / Wolverine adjacent to the target character and then give them a close combat action as a free action, their damage value by +1 for that attack.”
When I use this special power, and I hit both times, how much damage do I do? 5 or 9?
9. A ranged combat action always leads to a ranged combat attack.
If I KO the character I’m targeting with the first attack can I still move to a space adjacent to where they were?
No. They are no longer there and that action has resolved, and the character has been removed from play, there is no one there to move adjacent to.
May I attack a different character with the second attack?
Yes. Nowhere in the description does it say that you must attack the first character with the second action. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
“WHICH ONE'LL IT BE, BUB?: At the beginning of your turn, choose one: Heal Colossus / Wolverine of one damage, or Colossus / Wolverine can use Invulnerability until your next turn.”
Can I chose which power to use if I get knocked to this power in the middle of a turn?
No, it says the beginning of your turn, so that’s when you get to do it. Yes that means they will be ‘naked’ the round they fall to this power.
“SUGAH AND SPICE: Gambit / Rogue can use Force Blast and Penetrating/Psychic Blast. When they use either one, after actions resolve they may use it again as a free action, if they take 1 unavoidable damage after that resolves.”
How many attacks can I make with Sugah and Spice?
2. One normal attack + 1 Free action. From the PG:
“Any game effect that grants the character a free action can never use that free action to initiate the action that granted the free action in the first place. (For example, the power action of Multiattack cannot be used to give the character a power action for another Multiattack).”
“CHARMING ROGUES: Gambit / Rogue can use Outwit targeting only adjacent characters. If they do and they counter a standard power, Gambit / Rogue can use that countered power until your next turn.”
Can I use this against an adjacent figure in stealth?
Yes, because this power is usable only against adjacent enemies, the targeting mechanic has been changed and may be used against units in stealth. From the Players Guide:
"Some special powers allow a character to use a standard power against one or more adjacent characters. When adjacency is specified in this way, the character using the special power does not need to have line of fire on the target(s)."
“FINAL KISS: Once per game on your turn, as a free action you may choose that Gambit / Rogue can't use the duo attack ability or special powers for the rest of the game. If you do, heal Gambit / Rogue 2 clicks and remove all action tokens from them.”
Do I lose both Duo attack AND my special powers, or do I get to chose because it says ‘or’?
You lose both. The ‘or’ in this case refers to both things.
If someone mind control’s them, and has them use the final kiss, will they lose all their powers until the end of the game? Or just until the MC ends (immediately)?
Unknown. Under current rules, it seems you lose all powers, but waiting for a Deputy.
Nemesis “LIFE ENERGY DRAIN: Each time an opposing character takes damage from an attack by Nemesis or Nemesis's Poison, Nemesis may heal 1 damage.”
Does Nemesis heal from every person he damages?
Yes, every one. If he damages 3 people with poison, he heals 3 clicks.
“BIO NUCLEAR BLAST: Give Nemesis a power action. Draw a straight horizontal or vertical line of fire to any single square within Nemesis's range and line of fire, ignoring other characters for line of fire purposes. Make an attack roll as though making a ranged combat attack, and compare the result to each character occupying a square along that line of fire, or a square adjacent to that line of fire but still within his range. Each character hit is dealt 3 damage.”
Is this an attack?
Unknown. If it’s an attack he’d heal from every person he damages with it. If it’s not, other characters would not be able to use Shape Change, Super Sense etc against it. Waiting for the Deputies. http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showth...hlight=nemisis
"YOU APPEAR MORE WORTHY: Once per game, give Apocalypse a power action and choose two characters: an adjacent opposing character not on its starting line and a friendly character on the map with a point value higher than the opposing character but lower than Apocalypse. The first character becomes friendly to Apocalypse and gains the Horsemen of Apocalypse keyword. The second character becomes friendly to the first character's force and is healed of 1 damage."
What happens when someone uses Mind Control on Apocalypse and uses You Appear More Worthy?
They would activate the power and swap characters like normal
Is that the only use of the power that can be used this game?
Powers that are used during Mind Control do not use up 'one time' powers of a character. updated: 3/24 10pm EST
“BIO NUCLEAR BLAST: Give Nemesis a power action. Draw a straight horizontal or vertical line of fire to any single square within Nemesis's range and line of fire, ignoring other characters for line of fire purposes. Is this an attack?Unknown. If it’s an attack he’d heal from every person he damages with it. If it’s not, other characters would not be able to use Shape Change, Super Sense etc against it. Waiting for the Mods.
i would say that you be able to roll for super sense, shape change, and imperv, because in a way its still an attack roll(but on a larger scale).
Q: Whats the Difference between Chuck Norris and The Hulk?
A: Hulk Smashes. Chuck Norris Roundhouses.
i would say that you be able to roll for super sense, shape change, and imperv, because in a way its still an attack roll(but on a larger scale).
This thread is the discussion on this subject. http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showth...hlight=nemisis And while I personally think it goes one way, clearly there are other possible interpretations, and we need a mod to rule with possible errata to make it explicit.
But the old colossal’s got free multi-attack and could push for free, can’t these do that too?
Sadly, the answer is still no. Is it listed on the colossal size ability? No? Is it on their card? Then no.
Suggest adding "Some of the old colossi could do this, but only based on special rules associated with the figure, not from being colossal. Without special rules, colossal figures do not have these abilities."

This is correct. No need for a mod, as long as you accept my word as the absolute declarator of fact that it is! But, seriously, there's no real rules controversy here. The rules say what they say.

Ditto to the above note, the rules are unintuitive, but clear from the text.

Note that even with multibase figures large enough to get multiple bombs under them (Galactus, for example), there will still only be two damage because it's still a character occupying one of the squares.

I don't know if this was resolved but I remember when the Tabitha Smith was previewed this came up: Does her "Time Bomb" function with Armor Piercing? If there was a verdict on this it be good to have here as well.
Pretty much everything / anything about general heroclix is here.

From the Parking Lot:
Quote
Can GSX #015 - Tabitha Smith use Armor Piercing with her Time Bomb special power?
(normalview) Armor Piercing prevents damage dealt by the character assigned the feat from being reduced. Damage dealt in other ways, even if those other ways happen as the result of the AP character being given an action (e.g. using Force Blast to cause knock back damage) will not activate the feat. As currently written, the Timebomb power is unclear as to the exact source of the damage: Tabitha or the hindering terrain tokens themselves. At the moment, I (normalview) read it as the terrain is causing the damage so then AP should not function.
This also have further reaching implications for game effects like AA #026 - Nightshade's From the Land of Nightshade's special power, so this issue isn't specific to just Tabitha.
First a comment: On threads like this it is usually best to indicate when and where you make updates. For example, Updated 3/24/11 1:00 P.M. This way people will know what you updated when you updated and the thread will be that much more useful.
Now on to comments....

I might mention that they can act when they have two tokens and take unavoidable damage. It's a new addition and people might not be aware of it.

Only another colossal, blocking terrain, elevated terrain or walls. If a character is elevated than only elevated blocking terrain will block LoF.
First, you'll want to use the game term LOF. Second, you should probably add that an elevated colossal character in addition to elevated blocking terrain will block LOF to an elevated character.

You will probably want to fine tune this question to make it clear you are refering to indoor/outdoor terrain in the question. For example, on the Arkham Asylum map (all indoor), a colossal character can see into the rooms just fine accounting for the walls which will block LOF.
Now, yes as Krakoa is not a character nor is it an opponent to anyone, than it may do so. On the same note, you could not use Prob Con on this attack role, as the character is not friendly nor an opponent.
The real reason you cannot use PC is because Krakoa is not a character. (PC doesn't specify that it needs to be used on a friendly/opposing character.)

These two might need to be combined. It's a little confusing to say you can TK someone next to the character and then Force Blast them, but you don't know what happens if you miss the TK. Right now it seems that if you don't have an adjacent opposing character then you cannot use Slym and Redd. I know I asked normalview to be explict about it, but the thread was closed before he answered.

If someone mind control’s them, and has them use the final kiss, will they lose all their powers until the end of the game? Or just until the MC ends (immediately)?
Unknown. Under current rules, it seems you lose all powers, but waiting for a Deputy.
Hmm. It seems an easy fix to say, "Once per game during the owner's turn..." This would avoid the crappy feelings. However, MC does give you access to all available actions, but that activiation would be the ONLY action that could be taken by the MCer, correct?
My guess on Shape Change vs. BIO NUCLEAR BLAST is that you will not get to roll Shape Change. The SP doesn't mention targeting and doesn't even specify opposing characters (similar to how EE is used to attack). Super Senses and Impervious should work fine.
I'm kinda peeved about the new Collossal rules. No Multi-Attack and now they take unavoidable damage to continue acting? I thought that was the point of giving some of then Indom? Bah..
as for Nemesis Bio-Nuclear blast.. the power doesn't say you actually TARGET anyone.. so I'd agree that Shape-Change wouldn't come into effect.. Super Senses is rolled when you are hit with an attack.. so I guess we're eaiting on clarification on whether it IS an attack. Imperv is rolled when dealt damage, so that would trigger in my opinion.
