View Poll Results: Which version of "All That You Have Is Your Soul" do you prefer?
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Sorry RE, I think Emmylou doesn't do anything for this song at all. Chapman's vocals have that quality to pull this song off while Emmylou turns it into more of a spiritual. AF was right, Chapman's rawness owns this one.
One of the things I love about Emmylou is she draws attention to other good artists. Tracy is a bit better known then a lot of them but she still isn't a household name.
Emmylou is a great source of material to help me showcase some great songs and great artists.
It's too bad the top 40 addicts can't widen their horizons and appreciate these songs.
I'm going with the Tracy Chapman version as well because she really conveys the poignancy and pain, but that isn't going to stop me from enjoying Emmylou everytime I throw on my copy of "All I Intended to Be".

...and I'd say yer probably a man who knows how to drive a "Hard Bargain" as well.
That said...
With all due respect to Tracy Chapman and the opinions posted here...
The Cover -- Emmylou Harris, please!
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
There are very few Chapman songs that I actually like to listen to. This isn't one of them, but it still trumps the cover. Barely, but it does. I prefer Emmylou musically.
With my mother's influence, I'll throw a vote on for the original.
Emmylou can always do a pretty good job with any song, but sometimes it feels predictable. I have to go with the Original by Tracy Chapman here, it just feels more real.
