View Poll Results: Which version of "Do You Know What I Mean" do you prefer?
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
The cover sounds like she's forcing the words out, and I totally didn't like her arrangement. One of the great things about the original is that the organ is so pronounced to give the song a bit of ooomph. But RG's version fails to to bring that part of the song to the forefront, really just laying it out there for her vocals to be the focus and it misses the mark.

It's funny, I got the impression that Lee Michaels was forcing the words out.
"When they come to take control every Ogre must play his role"
I like Geyer's vocals just fine but there were things being done with the supporting instrumentation I found annoying.
I was hoping to go with a different Lee Michaels song for this but this was the only song of his that anybody's covered apparently. Lee Michaels always considered this song to be just a goof and not a serious piece of work.
Guess I'll have to wait til Same Name Different Song to be revived to be able to field any other work by the man.

Yes, it wasn't the voice, but something about the music that WAS a bit annoying with the cover.
I prefer the Lee Michael's original. Saw him a long time ago, and still listen to the Barrel album occasionally.
I did some digging and apparently that was just a rumor.

On the other hand it may not be. They're saying he cancelled a comeback tour in the early 80s on doctors orders.

Renee just felt too...I don't really know how to say it...too disco? I know that may not make a ton of sense, but I just prefer the arrangement on the Michael's track. The cover's not bad, and on another day, maybe, but it wouldn't make me want to buy another album.
Just spent the night listening to some old R&B, gotta shake it.
