to get up to the minute information concerning the Big DC reboot right from the mouths of Geoff Johns and Jim Lee. Expect to hear about Superman, as the panel is going on at an LA film convention that is screening Superman I & II.
Gotta give props to Newsarama for making this available to everyone via the live blogging.
Johns on membership: "Our first arc is the origin of the team. It takes place in the past, and the next arc will take place in the present."
Johns said that when Green Lantern first meets Batman, he's going to ask "what are your powers?" The initial relationship between these characters will be explored.
Johns: "What are the people like behind the mask?"
Johns said the three words he uses to describe what they're doing is "Heart, humor and heroics."
Lee said they're "re-energizing" and "re-imagining" much of their characters.
Lee says there's never been an "awesome origin" for the Justice League, calling it a "prime example" of where they can "add something to the lore."
"They're such a diverse group of characters, they're so iconic," Lee continued, adding that they're looking for ways to make things "more modern" and create jumping-on points for new readers.
Lee mentions the same day digital for the September-launching titles.
"That's a huge, huge step forward," Lee said.
"We really think this is an opportunity for us to reach new people out there and bring them into the fold," Lee said. "We're also going to go out there and really promote this on a national level."
Lee said they want to remind people that comics are the source material for the box office blockbuster comic book movies.
Johns said he was skeptical of digital comics at first, but now thinks they're "really exciting" and that they "change the way you think about comics."
Johns said they're going to experiment with digital comics so that reading them is a "different experience."
Of the GL movie, Johns said he'd love for a generation of kids to discover Green Lantern like he did with Star Wars.
Lee says there's never been an "awesome origin" for the Justice League, calling it a "prime example" of where they can "add something to the lore."
Considering one of the comics I loved most as a kid - and still re-read it frequently - was Justice League of America #200 issue, I'm just never going to agree with Lee that there wasn't a cool origin for the JLA.
Wish they'd just confirm if they're destroying the Clark/Lois marriage.

the whole thing seems really implausible if you're trying to Keep all the recent Batman & Green Lantern stuff unchanged, since a lot of it involved the Superman we know… Not to mention his cast of supporting characters, and it seems that Superboy won't survive this unaltered either. Supergirl's new costume is awesome... But the Current Supergirl was introduced in Batman/Superman… a title that explodes under these new conditions.
Oh, I know we can pretty much expect it and they have stopped just short of announcing it (considering they said there was going to be an exploration of romance between Wonder Woman and Superman). It's just I would like it "formalized". I guess I'm a sap but that's one thing that's really saddening me about the "reboot"...I can actually deal with a lot of the changes (and even look forward to some) but the loss of the marriage overshadows the good stuff, for me.
Well the loss of the marriage and, again, showing I'm a nostalgic/romantic fool, the renumbering of Action Comics and Detective Comics. Go renumber everything else. I'm fine with that. Those two though almost deserve "historical protection".

absolutely agree. The hits to continuity will hurt, but renumbering Action & Detective is like Knocking down a historical site and putting up a museum to the historical site on the same spot. Not really the same thing as actually preserving the history would have been.
I would have kept a core handful of DCU titles running uninterupted and did this reboot in a new universe. I would have been classy about it and called them Earth-1 & Earth-2.
Earth-1 would have consisted of:
Action Comics
Detective Comics
Adventure Comics
Green Lantern Corps
Justice League
DC Comics Presents: Tales of Earth-1
Everything else, including any variants of the JLA etc, I would have put in Earth-2.
It's called having your cake and eating it too.
Instead we're going to try crazycakes exclusively but don't worry we'll be back to classic cupcakes when nobody is interested in crazycakes.

I doubt it. I don't just doubt that DC would go back on it, because despite the hubbub, comic fans are addicts, and won't stop buying, no matter how vocal they get about disliking the changes. Even if they tried to be like "Lol, J/K, that was Earth &," I doubt they are going to toss whatever they came up with post re-boot. They will try to have THEIR cake and eat it too, resulting in even more crazy continuity bs.
