HCR Rates The Movies #264: TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON
So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?
Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all, is:
TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON
Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.
Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.
ALSO: I urge Any and All of you who have yet to do so, to go back to our older catalogue of RtM films (Very easily done by the Links List right on the top of the Rate The Movies Forum), and vote for your favorite, not so favorite, and anything in between movies. We have HEAPS there already, some Classics, some Crud, let's hear what YOU think about them ALL!
So, what say you all?

HCR Rates The Movies Is Back! Come and share your thoughts on a TON of films, new and old! Our latest movie - BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE
There is simply no excuse for how terrible Transformers 3 is. Who in their right mind spends $195 million on a movie that doesn't make any sense? There is not one aspect of this tale that is logical. I was going to go through every one of them, but after I wrote three paragraphs and hadn’t got past the first fifteen minutes of the flick, it became clear that such an endeavor would be too long and painful to bother with.
Many will insist that a movie based on a toy line from Hasbro doesn't need or deserve a quality story. This view is shortsighted and willfully ignorant of the facts. Plenty of great stories have had their origins in a source material that was nothing more than an attempt to cash in on a popular property. Batman: The Animated Series was a blatant attempt by WB to cash in on the Batman craze by introducing loads of new characters and vehicles that could have action figures and playsets made of them. Instead of cranking out a generic cartoon with lots of action and no substance, the show’s creators gave us one of the greatest animated series ever made.
Others say that you can’t make a movie that uses a bunch of non-human CGI characters as the focus of the story. Pixar gave us Toy Story, a franchise that actually stars the toys themselves. The human characters are important, but do not consume much screen time. It's the CGI toys who get all the good lines, the funny jokes and the action scenes. The humans are only the motivation for the story, while the plot is driven by the toys.
Some will say that the numbers speak for themselves, and that since TF3 is well on it's way to being one of the most successful movies of the year, it must be good enough. To these folks I would ask, "Should we have to settle for merely 'good enough'?" I'm not expecting the greatest movie ever, but for $195 million, the producers of this film should have been able to come up with a plot that can move from one point to the next and actually make sense at the same time. Is that really too much to ask?
1/10
The action scenes and Baysplosions of the last hour of the story do not make up for the first hour and a half of yawn inducing nonsense or lack of coherent plot.
I thought it was enjoyable. I like to go to the movies to have fun and this movie accomplished that. 9/10
I have to ask is this movie really a 9/10 or are you just trying to even out the 1/10 before it? It just seems like "I wanted to like this movie so I did, despite it's obvious shortcomings it was fun," is totally fair but maybe doesn't deserve the second best possible rating.
I haven't seen the movie, and hopefully won't, but I do like to check these threads out and I just question all of the 9's and 10's that a lot of the "it was not the best movie but was a fun time at the theatre" movies seem to garner on here.
I would at least like to see one of these 9's or 10's have an accompanying review that backs up that solid of a rating, just so that I can see where people are coming from and maybe (it is a long shot but possible) win me over to checking it out.
I watched this on a flight recently. Pretty much as bad as I expected. Like the rest of the Transformer films there was far far to much human face time and not nearly enough Autobot/Decepticon face time.
Not as bad as some movies I've seen, but not really any good either (and let me say, I still am not convinced that the dorky kid can act worth a darn). Really bad plot holes, really glaring CGI, etc.
3/10
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
eh...... kool explosions....... uh, more kool explosions? kooler explsions? real kool explosions? obligatory unnecessary t-n-a shots? some more kool explosions? even more kool explosions? wait, what?!? The movies is only 1/2way over? What's next? An hour-long explosion? but don't ask questions? Turn off my brain? pay no attention to the man behind the curtain?
uh, ok I'll give it a 5... but that's only because that's the d6 I rolled came up (should've used a d3)
Yes, but you're a surrealist! I'm a normal guy!
Gil Zoo Crew or bust!
I found the plot missing, the human characters dumb and unecessary, and the actions of Sentinel Prime illogical. "We're going to have to Wing Suit in!!" I hate the dialogue in this movie. No Nascar Wreckers as promised, and there aren't many Transformers in the first 45 minutes of the movie. The title has the word "Transformers" in it, so the movie should too.
I can't believe anyone would consider this a quality product with a price tag of $195 million dollars.
Better than #2, but not as good as #1. There's some pretty thin plot points
but the editing of the transformer fights was superior, and of course special effects were terrific. I wonder how much trouble replacing Megan Fox (is the girl really that foolish?) caused in flow and continuity.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”

None whatsoever. From what I understand, the 'story' of TF3 was written on the fly. TF2 was done during the Hollywood writers strike and as a result, had to be written on the fly instead of being done properly. It turned out that Bay actually enjoyed shooting a film without a proper script, and since TF2 didn't suffer at the box office from it's completely nonsensical 'story' he didn't see any reason not to do it again. They were just making things up as they went along on TF3 as well.
I liked it better than the 2nd one. One of these days when I have the time to, I'd like to do a trilogy marathon (which honestly, I'd like to do with any movie that has two sequels)
