What are the rules for team placement if you have an older map without marked starting areas?

I believe that the old rule was you could place your figures anywhere in the first 2 rows.

Quoting the Indy rules :
"Each player's starting area extends 2 squares away from his or her edge of the map and at least 4 squares away from any other edge."

"|" and "_" being the edge of the maps, and "." being a square, the red part is the starting area for any given edge.

What trickery are you up to now???

Another question: are ALL Wizkids maps ok to choose from in Modern games? There's no retirement for maps, right?

Actually, there is. Anything without colored lines is "retired" and not officially legal in WK run events.

Makes you wish they would do updates and bring back the old maps with updated graphics and terrain markers. I know I would drop some cash on a reto map pack, maybe some updated bystander tokens and 3d objects.

Doesn't make me wish that. I'd rather have new maps than reprints of old ones.

One of the companies was going to produce new, vinyl versions of older maps once upon a time, but I don't know what happened to that plan. I don't think it was Grid Reality, probably the people who made those MechWarrior dice I still use all the time, I can't remember who they were, but I love those dice.

Yeah, that's them, Gale Force 9. That explains why I kept trying to type "Plan 9", but that was a company that made trashy, poorly glued books based on webcomics and kept stealing my money and not sending me anything. GF9 is tops.
