Strange Question about telling people your powers.
So basically I have played many games with some friends and other people. A lot of times people decide to take back a move after discovering a power my character had. For example they would use running shot to shoot at captain america who has energy shield deflection and then say oh sorry i did not know he had that and then take back the move after making an attack roll that did not succeed.
I want to know has this happened to anyone ? Is there a rule against taking moves back ?
Do I have to announce all of my powers ?
(I ALWAYS announce the moves I am using and if it is a special power I explain every part of it)
I am really new to the game and try to be nice and occasionally let them take the move back to avoid arguments. Unfortunately it happens multiple times per game.
If your character has taken an action, then it took that action. Simple as that.
Now, if you and your friends want to agree on some sort of etiquette that allows a window of opportunity to consider all options, that's cool, too. For example, I've seen people frequently say that they'll allow their opponent's to take things back if no dice have been rolled, or if the player hasn't removed his hand from the character yet, and so on. But there is no official "do-over" policy.

if i was playing thorbuster and my oppnet used running shot and hit and then took it back after he realized thorbuster would take no damage from a running shot attack would they be able to take that action back..???

They shouldn't be taking the move back after they have declared the ranged combat action granted by running shot. Definitely, not after rolling the dice - and to try to take it back after they miss is super dink cheater territory.
Whether or not they can take the move back prior to that is more of what is allowed by the venue/judges rules or generally accepted local practice.
You don't have to announce your powers, you also can't conceal them, or intentionally not use them when required.
thank you sir!! guess i shoulda asked a judge at gencon on saturday.
Ouch... I hope that didn't cost you a game or anything
For everyone reading at home and thinking about going to GenCon or similar big deal tournament, always ask a judge if you aren't sure. There are no dumb questions and your opponent (the guy trying to beat you) is usually not the best source of information

Thanks. If nothing else, it made me stand out a little more easily so the players could find me if an issue came up.

I've always gone by "if you say your action/turn is done" then it's done. I've seen too much time wasting because all of a sudden someone realizes PC is close or something, and he has to rearrange his whole maneuver.
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing
At local tournaments I usually don't care about people using Leadership late, or poison, or what have you, but I don't think I'd let someone take back a whole running shot attack after missing
and at Gencon or another big deal there's NO EFFING WAY I'd not be a rules nazi lol
Didn't say you were using Exploit Weakness or Blades or any power specifically before using it? Sorry bro, not happening. This is the big leagues, and I want to win.
But if you're playing in a big tournament, such as Worlds, such as one in which you choose to move your character up on the first round to outwit the opponents HSS, and then were told that you can't do that as first turn immunity is still in effect, then no, you would not get a do-over. (just replace first turn immunity with ES/D)
Also, if you're playing against me for a Dirk Anger LE, you will not get a do-over. :D
