Episode 84: Gen-Con and More!
This week Steve and Gudda talk about their visit to Gen-Con 2011 and
briefly talk about Cap/Street Fighter and A little Superman. We're
back!
frequent clix cast fill in Mike Homen also exercises while listening to the cast. We are making people thinner. We are like a stephen king plot device.
I prefer the new model of heroclix, the "Hammer of ________" set ideas, where they pick an idea, and most of the figures are along those lines. My reasoning is because I really didn't feel a need to buy very many cap boosters, because i don't care for most of the figures from it. I love cap, but his villains and stuff not so much. In contrast, I bought way more of Hammer of THor than I should of because i love thor. I hear people complain about too much new product, but with the Hammer of... idea, it makes it a bit easier to pic and choose sets.
As for the beatstick feel of superman set, it does seem slightly fitting. However, I'm pumped for superman mostly because of the multiple point settings on a figure.
I so missed you guys.(I know I saw you last week) I love the Shield SET name. Gudda next year you come a crash with me! I will pay you in pizza! Like I told Steve our group needs someone sober for lines of fire arguments!!! I really am the only drunk out of the group, AND NOBODY had a clue that I was LIT!!!(ALL DAY AT THE KING OF THE HILLS) THAT WASEN"T PEPSI....LOL....(in my defense once a year away from wife and KIDS) I agree with the worlds idea take like the top 4 so I'll have a chance to play!!! LOL. Next year I plan on renaming the hill (sorry NICK) IT WILL BE HOF HILL!!!...lol. Call me GUDDA I'll hook you UP!!!
HOF OUT
Anyone else think that Gudda sounds like Chumley from Pawn Stars?
I do enjoy your podcast, and you've made some great points about GenCon organization without being overly negative like some. I think WizKids problem is that they were too accommodating this year. Players have asked and asked for events other that BR's and KotH. WK finally delivers on these theme events, which by nature eat up table space that would otherwise go to pick up events.
WizKids also made it harder on themselves by not having policies in place to deal with sign-ups and drop outs. I signed up for KotH and a BR, thinking I'd have time to do the BR before KotH, then got called up for KotH and forgot to drop from the BR. My mistake. However some were not making mistakes - I watched as people signed up to play in *any event* because they wanted to PLAY, and then the same people would get called for another event while they were currently playing, which caused a major scheduling problem.
Maybe they should think about a queue for BR events starting BR's on the top of every hour on the hour, and people should sign up an hour early. That way people aren't clogging the play area waiting for a game to start.
I also think the Grinders were a bit of a joke based solely on the number of point and click auto-win figures in the set. I wouldn't doubt that people dropped the second an opponent pulled a Quasar/Maelstrom.
I'd really like to see other ways to win a seat at the World's Championship table, though like you guys I don't know that I could devote my entire con to 'Clix.

I would love to see a "theme team" rule/variant this would still allow for
Nightcrawler prof x cheese but it's not as bad. Also magic recently did ban two cards in type 2 because of there dominance Jace 2.0 and stoneforge mystic. Mistakes happen. While I love Nightcrawler it wouldn't bother me if he was golden age only legal.
Also I can see it both ways it is a "Cap" set but it's also a Secret warriors set with all the villains from Secret warriors also if a person had not read Bruebakers run or Secret warriors and had known let's say only New Avengers or X-men then this set would be hard to get excited about for theme teams.
That's not to say it doesn't have great figs and theme teams though as I'll be fielding tons of figs from this set to round out teams. Luke cage thunderbolt keyword :Check GSX Jugernaut keyword : WTF hmmm where's my pen.

Thanks, glad people are digging the casts. One of the reasons we were gone for a bit is we felt no one was listening....eveidently we were wrong....a lot of "long time listeners, first time callers" kinda thing I guess.

I like the scoop on Gen Con. Not sure what the best solution for World Championships.
Did you make any maps for the games???
What about the new Superman set? Are we getting a Fortress of Solitude?
I've been making all the maps since WOS., Also made 95% of the Smurf Game Board as well. (Smurf/Garamel Icons and the portal graphics aren't mine.)
Can't tell you what maps are coming though....sorry. NDA.
