Say I have a Unique Spidey and a Dr. Strange right next to eachother. I know I can increase Strange's Defense value to 18 using Spidey's Defend ability, but can I still make use of Strange's Energy Shield Deflection, which would make his defense a whopping 20 against ranged attacks?

Strange will be able to use the 18 Defense with his own ESD. So any Range attacks would be at 20 to Dr. Strange.

Spidey would only be at the 18. He cannot use Dr. Strange's ESD.

Yep, Powers give an extra boost to the defend. Real easy way to think about it. Does he still get toughness and other defense powers. Yep.

yes, you can certainly do that. It's often done with R Invisible Girl and Human Torch. It's a nifty little combo.
