Hal Jordan stood knee-deep in the Pacific, feeling the water rolling around his skin and tasting the salt on the wind. He was home.
“I missed this,” he sighed, holding his arms out and laughing.
“I can't imagine leaving it all behind, man,” Oliver Queen laughed with him from where he stood slightly further back in shallower water. “I've been in space a couple times – it isn't for me. Give me a dirtball swarming with the unwashed masses, the noise, the chaos... I'm just a planet-bound boy at heart.”
“But you never got to feel it like I did, Ollie. With the ring, all my senses were opened and expanded. I've watched the birth of stars in the full range of the visible spectrum. I've felt solar winds blowing in my hair. I stood and listened to the sounds of a collapsing sun when it went nova; not any sound like you can hear or understand, but something completely beyond our own ears' ability to listen. That ring made me more than human, and space was more than just a black vacuum.”
“Yeah, well, welcome back to 'mere mortal' status,” Ollie laughed and clapped him on the back. “I don't mean to be selfish, but good god am I glad to have you back, pal.”
“I'm glad to be back,” Hal smiled, smiling hard enough that he almost believed it. “We've got some catching up to do.”
“And drinks to spill,” his friend nodded. “And women to win.”
“Hell yes.”
“It's gonna be just like old times, Hal,” he said as the two walked back to the beach. “Just you wait and see. It'll be like nothing's changed. Two old dogs back on the prowl.”
“Ollie, old buddy, I think this is exactly what I've been missing in my life.”

Far away on the distant planet Oa, the assembled Green Lantern Honor Guard sat quietly in their lounge, letting everything they'd just heard sink in. Ganthet hovered at their center, patiently allowing them time to think.
"So the Yellow Lanterns," John spoke up. "They won't be the last."
"No," Ganthet shook his head solemnly. "You saw in Lantern Jordan what a Red Lantern could look like, though we won't know their final shape for some time yet. On Earth I have detected both an Orange and Violet spark, but they are still greatly in flux. It will be a while before we know their full power, and to the violet it still remains in question whether they will fight for good or evil. Theirs is the power of love, but love can lead to positive and negative ends equally, depending on who wields it and for what."
"This is kind of a lot to take in," Tomar sat back in his seat. "I guess… I guess the question is what do you want us to do, Ganthet? Why did you tell us all this?"
"The Guardians are in the process of tightening the reins on the Corps. They fear the coming of these other powers and will do all they can to prevent their use. They will fail. I need somebody out there who is actually looking for bearers of these powers and working on building alliances with those who would be our allies and developing methods of combating those who would stand against us."
"Okay, good enough," Katma nodded. "Where do we start?"
"Your first opportunity will present itself very soon. I have two things for you; first, keep Yrra Cynril close. She is important and has some vital role to play in this, though I don't yet know to what end. Second, you will soon be approached by someone who needs help. When he asks, offer yourselves to him. It will lead you to where you need to be."

In a darkened cavern on a barren world deep in the furthest reaches of the known universe, three figures stepped from the shadows into the single pillar of light that shown down from above. They each took seats at the simple table at the center of the light, a simple nod their only acknowledgement of each other.
The three had once been of one race billions of years ago, but time and evolution had driven them far from each other such that the blue tint of their skin was the only visible similarity they shared. The Guardians had driven their evolution with a focus on building mental capacity and willpower; their representative showed the results with his withered and small body and his large, pulsing cranium. Tufts of white hair ringed his head, and the imprint of his massive, powerful brain could be seen in the skin of his head.
The Zamarons had pursued different goals, believing that love and kindness were the keys to the salvation of the universe. Their representative here sat tall and proud in her seat, her astonishing seven-foot height giving her a regal bearing even while seated. Her body was soft and willowy slight with skin that was visibly supple and smooth even at a distance.
The Controllers, by contrast, had changed little in the billions of years they had been in the universe alone. Their representative had a permanent sneer on his shallow-skinned face, his eyes slightly smaller than would be normal and recessed beneath a protruding brow. He looked back and forth at the other two before speaking.
"Can we get on with this?" he said, his voice deep and nasal with just the slightest rasp on his 's' consonants. "What have you called us here for, Guardian?"
"I think you are both aware," the Guardian said. "You can't imagine we wouldn't have found out about what you've been doing. We know full well that you are attempting to open two of the boxes."
"Attempting?" the Zamaron asked haughtily. "We have succeeded."
"Your only success has been a maddened human woman on Earth," the Guardian waved his hand in dismissal.
"That was an error. A shard of our channeling crystals was lost and fell to Earth. The woman hadn't been properly trained and the crystal hadn't been attuned. With more advanced trials we will have fully functioning--"
"No. You won't," the Guardian cut her off. "You will both cease these experiments immediately."
The Controller laughed. "You think you have any power over us, Guardian? The Controllers already have our first field-tested and battle ready warrior. We will have a Corps of our own before long."
"Using the orange flame? Ludicrous," the Zamaron scoffed. "You cannot control the power of greed - it serves only itself."
"Ha! Just what I'd expect from a Zamaron. You think yourself so superior - have you never considered how much of the universe runs purely on the motive of self-interest? It is the only motive you can trust. Anyone who claims to be driven by anything else is a liar or a fool."
"What could you hope to achieve with such a group? How can greed shape the universe for good? What would you ever do for anyone but yourselves?"
"Your very premise is faulty. If the universe is to thrive, it is this foolish notion of the morality of altruism that sentient beings must reject. Pursuit of our own happiness is the only morality, and each seeking for themselves shall perfect the world they live in."
"A universe of creatures seeking to hoard for their own benefit is a direct route to the rule of the strongest over the weakest."
"If they are weak it is because they have chosen to be so," he waved his hand. "And if they are strong, it is because they made themselves so. I should spare no pity for creatures with so little self-determination that they allow themselves to be weak, and will broke no disrespect for those who have worked hard enough to become strong."
"Enough!" the Guardian interjected. "By opening these boxes you are putting the entire universe in peril! You think you can control these forces, but you cannot. Only the green can be controlled and channeled for the greater good; all others are too unpredictable, too wild. They will consume you and then begin to consume everything else they touch."
"I find it hard to believe that you could be so arrogant," the Zamaron raised her head, pointing her chin at him. "Can you hear your own words? Only one power can be harnessed and only you can do the harnessing? Who is it that kept that power hidden from the universe? Who locked it away so none but they could use it? You appointed yourselves with the hilariously self-righteous moniker of 'Guardians of the Universe' and then gave yourselves and none other the power to choose what is right and wrong for everyone else. How are you any different from the Controllers?"
"Because they are utter failures," the Controller spat. "Had we their power, the Universe would be a very different place by now."
"We have authority as the wisest of the oldest thinking race in existence. Our experience has taught us much, our experimentation has sharpened our understanding, our focus, and our resolve. We are the most deserving of our position and the east likely to abuse it. The same cannot be said of your people - one too emotional to make logical decisions and the other too mired in intrusive ideology. We Guardians seek only pure, clean justice. That is why the green responds to us and that is why we are fit to make these judgments."
"And my free mind gives me the right to choose for myself," the Controller said, standing. "If you only called us here to posture and preen as if you had any power over us, then you have only proven that you are an evil which we must purge if the universe is to be free to thrive for itself on its own terms."
"I have to agree," the Zamaron said, standing as well. "At least in sentiment. You have no right to dictate to the universe, Guardian."
They walked back into the shadows and out of the building that had been built here so long ago for these rare meetings. The Controller had someone waiting for him - a human in red-orange armor, flames dancing on his head in place of hair. His deathly-pale face betrayed little emotion as the Controller approached him.
"I am ready, Effigy. Return us to our vessel, we have much to do."
The man wrapped them in an orange field and flew out into space. The Zamaron stopped, hesitating, and then turned back to the Guardian.
"Our people once loved each other, Guardian," she said. "So let me say this, for both our sakes. You have grown too cold. Too detached. You don't see the illogic of your own actions anymore. Don't let yourself be blind to your path, or we will all regret it."
"We shall take that under advisement," the Guardian said, his voice thick with sarcasm.
"And yet you claim to be without emotion," she smiled as she touched the violet crystal at her neck. It wrapped her in a field of light and she too flew to the stars.
He was left alone. It had gone about as well as expected, but the real goal had never been to get them to give up the development of their projects - they knew that would never happen. But what they had learned now was exactly how far along their enemies were. The Controllers would be more of an immediate problem, but the Zamarons weren't far behind.
Four of seven would be on the board soon enough. They had to prepare their counter strategy immediately.

Jade, John and Katma walked the Oan promenade that stretched wide beyond the front of the citadel of the Central Battery. As they walked, they were talking about what was to come.
"Hal should be here for this," Katma shook her head.
"Maybe so, but he won't be," John shrugged. "Maybe we'll be able to figure a way around his expulsion from the Corps, maybe not, we need to be thinking about the problem we have right now."
"Yeah, well, the problem is that we don't know what the problem will be," Jade said. "We've got, what? Six other energy sources out there, each with a potential Starheart of their own, might I add, and we don't know what any of them do. Oh, and we don't know how many will be against us or how many will be with us."
"We know about the Yellow Lanterns," Katma offered. "And that they work through fear. Our rings used to be ineffective against yellow, but once we learned to recognize fear in ourselves and confront it, that wasn't a problem anymore."
"But it isn't a silver bullet," John said. "Knowing how to prevent ourselves form being powerless isn't the same as having a way to shut them down permanently. Then there's the problem of the reds; if they're as powerful as Hal was when he was-- whatever he was, possessed by the red flame, I guess… we didn't actually beat him when we fought him. We just pounded on him until he flew away. If the energy hadn't drained off him, I don't know how the rest of the fight would've gone."
"Based on your debrief on that situation, I'd say red is powered by anger," Katma suggested. "Maybe the user has to be angry for the power to work?"
"But the green light is justice, right?" Jade asked.
"The desire for justice, yes. My people have a word, Yuswain. It represents the concept of a want for balance. For equality. All creatures that live feel yuswain, that desire to be treated fairly. Even animals will lash out within their packs or units if they feel that they're being treated unfairly."
"Right, okay," Jade nodded, wrapping her head around the idea. "But, like, our powers still work when we aren't directly accessing that feeling, though. And I'm pretty sure that Yellow Lanterns aren't shaking in their boots with fear every time they use their rings…"
"So we can't assume that the power they tap is reliant on them feeling the emotional drive of the power," John said. "Which leaves us back at zero."
Katma perked up when she saw someone, then broke away from the group a bit to wave at him.
"Raker!" she shouted to the man. "Over here!"
He saw them and came over, pulling back the deep hood from over his head. He was a massive man, broad shouldered and heavily muscled, but his blue-skinned face held a weariness and fatigue that made him look as pitiable as he was powerful. He nodded to Katma, accepting a handshake and light hug in greeting.
"John, Jennifer, this is Raker Qarrigat," she said, introducing him. "He's the Lantern of sector 38."
"I've heard the stories," John said. "I think we all have."
"I haven't," Jade said, shaking Raker's hand.
"Raker is Lantern Prime in the sector that contains Apokalips," Katma said.
"…Darkseid," the younger girl whispered.
"Yes," Raker acknowledged. "I've been free of him for less than a decade and he's already readying for another war."
"Raker was a captive of Darkseid for… a very long time, Jenn."
"I was his prisoner for thousands of years," he said, not letting it rest in uncertainty. "The Guardians handed me over as an appeal for peace with that tyrant. The war was won… I could have ended his life… but instead…"
"What are you talking about?" Katma asked. "The Book of Oa says you handed yourself over to him in return for the end of Apokaliptian hostilities in--"
"They expunged the record!" Raker said, seeming as surprised as he was disappointed. "All this time… nobody ever came for me, and now I know why. And I know why they won't help me even now. I had to fight my own way out with only Kraken to help me, but… nobody knew? Nobody?"
"It was held as one of the greatest, most noble sacrifices any Lantern had ever made," Katma said. "I'm… so sorry for you, Raker."
"And this is why they've kept me from Oa. I've only been able to return briefly, no rest, no time off from my duty… because they didn't want anyone to know what they did to me."
"What's going on now, then?" John asked. "You said they still won't help - what do you need?"
"Darkseid is invading New Genesis. The New Gods are at war with each other, and the Highfather is losing. I came here to ask for help against him. If New Genesis falls, Darkseid will be free to spread out into the rest of the universe unopposed."
"And the Guardians said no," John said. It was a statement, not a question. He rubbed his chin and added "--but we're saying yes."
Raker just looked at him, taking a second to recognize what he'd said.
"It makes sense. Ganthet wanted us to help you with this," Katma agreed. "And if you think about it, the first mission Hal, Jennifer, G'nort and I ever took together was to destroy one of Darkseid's superweapons. We're experienced against Apokaliptian battle tactics and weaponry."
"You would really do this?" he asked. "Against the will of the Guardians?"
"Not the will of all of them…" Jade said under her breath with a smile. John elbowed her and she shut up; they didn't know if they were able to talk about Ganthet's visit with them or their new mission.
"Alright, Lantern Qarrigat," Katma said, fists on her hips. "How would you like the strength of the Honor Guard at your back?"
"The last time I led an army of Green Lanterns against Apokalips, we were 3600 strong," Raker said, pulling his hood up over his head. "This… will have to be enough. Maybe if enough of us return with what we've seen the Guardians will have to take action."

When the Lanterns emerged from warp-space into the orbit of New Genesis, they saw a world that seemed perfectly peaceful. Entering its atmosphere, breaking through the immense, downy clouds in the sky, they looked on a world of lush vegetation and vast crystal blue waters. New Genesis was so rich with life that their rings seemed to glow even brighter than usual.
"I thought this planet was at war," Tomar said as they slowed their flight and fell into a sweeping pattern.
"Yeah," Guy Gardner sneered in disappointment. "Where's all the damn war-machines and fugly parademons?"
"This is New Genesis," Raker said simply. "Even in pain it looks radiant. The war thus far has only consisted of skirmishes, but it is beginning to escalate as Darkseid's confidence grows. He's lulling Highfather into a false sense of superiority, but I've seen the forces Apokalips has amassed and is ready to use."
"Yeah, sure," Guy said. "But seriously-- there is a war going on here, right?"
At that moment, they crested the horizon and Guy's pupils dilated at the sight before him. It was like the forces of hell warring with heaven. The sky was blood red and parademons fell down from above like acid rain. Blasts of holy light fired by the New Gods from their floating cities were met by burning bolts of fire and brimstone belched forth by the snarling, gnashing hordes of Apokalips.
"Yes…" Guy whispered. "Oh… o-oh, yes!"
Before another word could be said, he launched ahead, screaming and whooping as he went. "Remember me, jackasses? Remember Guy F###ing Gardner?! I stomped your leathery gray butts off the face of Earth and you best get yourselves ready 'cause I'm-a gonna give you another taste right now!"
"Gardner, stop!" John shouted. "Dammit, we need a strategy!"
"Too late," Jade frowned. "He's already gone."
"Okay, we have to cover him," Katma said. "John, form up on my left and Raker on my right - we'll take Gardner's six and keep him alive in the thick. Jennifer, you Tomar and G'nort flank wide right and come at them from the far side. I want to see plow formations, people; drive them into our formation and we'll give you the anvil to pound them against."
"Gotcha, Kat," Jade nodded. "Time to show these god-people what the Starheart can do."
"Good enthusiasm, child," Raker said as he flew in behind Katma. "But don't get cocky…"

If you win just put me opposite you with all 3 in a line with Jade in the middle and go ahead and take your first turn.
Is the blue blocking? or secondary level of elevated?
I will be traveling to the US on Sunday so I will be out of contact for a couple of days. Taking the laptop though so I should be able to do turns once I get there.

"Nature has placed nothing so high, that valour cannot overcome it."

Turn 3b:
1) G'Nort attacks Para Scout 2. 14 - 8 = need 6. Rolled 3,3=6 hit with knockback! (There wasn't an email to send to, do you want me to forward the roll?). It takes 2 and is knocked to F20.
2) Jade will RCE on Para Drill Sgt. 16 - 10 = need 6. Rolled 4,6 = 10 hit. It takes 2 + 2 RCE - 1 Tough = 3 clicks.
Free) Tomar Tu will Perplex his Damage to 4.
3) Tomar Tu will RS to E18 and shoot The Parademon. 17 - 10 = need 7. Rolled 4,2=6 miss. G'Nort will PC that Rolled 4,1=5 miss again. Well 2 for 3 wasn't too bad.
G'Nort will PC the first attack that hits that he can see.
(By the way the way The Parademon isn't based to anyone, I am pretty sure he needs to move before he can attack anyone. Unless he throws the object.)
Descriptive Post:
The Parademons descended on the heroes in a massive swarm. A scout demon pounced on Jade and G'Nort yelled "DOWN BOY!" And hit it with a stream of green water from a massive garden hose, flinging the demon away.
Jade used the clear space to take aim on a particularly nasty Demon and let him have it with corkscrewing beam of flaming green energy. The demon staggered and smoked but looked ready to continue the fight.
Tomar Tu saw the flanking start and rotated back to back with Jade, then rolled out until he was now on the opposite side. Just as he readied his attack G'Nort's water hose hit him as G'Nort spun to attack another demon. The water threw off his aim and The Parademon expertly dodged the blasts. Warned of the GLs attention it dodged the follow up attack too. Tomar formed armor around himself, "Incoming!"

2) Jade will push to RCE attack Parademon Grunt. 15 - 10 = need 5. Rolled 4,2=6 hit. Parademon Grunt takes 2 + 2 RCE = 4 clicks and is koed. Jade takes a click for the push.
G'Nort will PC the first attack that he can see that hits.
G'Nort finally got his firehose under control while Jade and Tomar flew back to back. Green constructs flared and smashed parademons from the sky, but the most dangerous ones held back waiting for the heroes to tire. Despite knowing this the Honor Guard members could do nothing just yet but battle on, hoping for an opening to take out the most dangerous of their opponents.
