2) When you vote, please do so by saying Vote: [Player] in bold. If you wish to change your vote, please say Change Vote: [Player] instead. Voting for 'Nobody' is a valid vote; if a majority votes for 'nobody' then nobody will be lynched and we'll move on to the Night phase. You can vote for yourself if you choose, so be careful when leaving your vote with another player.
3) If your role says you -may- PM me a target, you don't have to do anything at night. Even so, it'll speed things along quite a bit if you'd still just send me a PM saying "Not using my [whatever] power tonight, thanks."
4) If your role says you -must- PM me a target, and you do not? I'll pick one randomly. Or, perhaps, not-so-randomly. Don't blame me if you target someone who kills you.
5) You may NOT send a PM to anyone about this game unless your role explicitly says you can. This is cheating.
6) Do NOT edit your posts in this thread. This is cheating.
7) Please do not copy-and-paste anything from any PM I send you to the thread. This is also cheating.
8) Please do not post in this thread after you are killed. This, too, is cheating and can ruin the game if done wrong.
9) Cheaters may or may not get to play in other mafia games I run. It depends on the severity of the offense.
10) Remember, it's just a game. You will get paranoid, you will be stabbed in the back by someone, you will see somebody do or say something stupid and want to smack them. Just breathe deep and relax. If things get out of hand, we do have a mod playing who will forcibly remind you to chill out if needed. It hasn't happened yet, and I'd like to keep it that way.
11) If you are inactive for more than two phase cycles, I will automatically look to replacing you. If I cannot find a replacement, I will start selecting random targets for you.
One more thing, and this is HIGHLY important...
Do NOT talk about this game until the entire game has ended. Death does not necessarily mean game over unless your character is removed from the game.
Kenny started yawning as he walked through the side door of his house. It was a typical day at work with the typical client calls. "I swear... no one knows how to manage the size of their inbox." He set his keys on the countertop and stretched his back. "Ugh... I need a new job." He walked over to the refrigerator and looked inside. He grabbed a pitcher of water and proceeded to pour himself a glass.
He walked into the living room and sat down on the couch next to his laptop. He hesitated for a moment. Taking a sip of his drink, he opened up the macbook and went straight to Safari. "Let's see what's going on in the mafia world." Browsing HCRealms to the Mafia Game forum, Kenny found the latest game he was in, open for the next day. "Sweet!" He exclaimed, clicking on the link. "Day 4..." His eyes read over the write-up. "K-Ness has been killed. He was ????" He blinked. "Seriously? They janitored me? Oh well."
He closed his macbook and laughed. "Figures. Now to wait for the next game." He glanced over at his entertainment center, the dusty SNES sitting on the lower shelf beneath his television. "Well, I suppose I could always work on High Score 3." He started thinking about his video game parties and what he could do for the next one. "Well, the best research should always be done hands on."
He plopped onto the floor and scooted over to the SNES. Picking up a copy of Pocky and Rocky, Kenny inserted the cartridge into the console and turned the power on. He grabbed the controller, turned on the television, and then sat in his favorite chair. I wonder if there is a way to incorporate a mafia element into the party theme... Hmm... I probably wouldn't get enough people attending to make the game worthwhile.
A few hours passed as Kenny played his video games. First Pocky and Rocky, then Aero the Acrobat, Young Merlin, Tetris Attack, and then The Seventh Guest. He began to yawn. "Maybe I shouldn't have started such an in-depth RPG this late... I have to work in the morning, and 3:30 comes too soon." He tried to shake the sleep off, but it was to no avail. "Well, that does it." He grabbed his drink and got up from the chair. As he started walking into the kitchen, he stumbled over the coffee table he recently brought in. The glass of water flew from his hand, splashing onto the console. Sparks flew and circuits popped. The house went dark as the power surged and blew a fuse.
"Crap... Like I want to deal with this." He sighed. A few more electrical sparks from the console lit up the living room enough for Kenny to regain his senses. He stood up just as the power came back on. "Oh, that's good I didn't even have to..."
He looked around. "This... This isn't my house anymore." The walls were pixilated. Coin blocks lined the ceiling. Clay pots were in a corner where a wood stove used to reside. Kenny took two slow steps forward when suddenly the world blurred and uptempo, rather intense music began to play. "Uh..."
Standing in a battlefield, Kenny found himself part of a random encounter. An option menu appeared beneath him. He stared at the monsters in front of him. "Goblin A... Goblin B... Goblin C... Goblin D... Goblin E... OH COME ONE!!! It's just me by myself, and I don't even have a weapon."
Goblin A flashed and made a swiping motion. A white number 2 appear on Kenny then just as quickly went away. Kenny wasn't amused. "Really? Well, fine..." The words Bolt 3 appeared. Kenny held out his hand and fired lightning at all of the goblins, killing each of them. A fanfare harmoniously played as text flashed by, detailing the spoils of battle. "Well, 15 EXP and 5 gil... not bad."
Kenny walked on outside his poorly rendered front door. A colorful world awaited him. "A guy could get used to this... if he had sunglasses." He turned to walk back into his house, but the world had shifted. Instead of his house, there was a massive castle. "I... I upgraded." He walked inside. Upon a pedestal, his macbook awaited. Some force beckoned to him, drawing him near. He approached, noting that the macbook was showing HCRealms on the screen. "Hey... I wonder... If this is a video game world, maybe there's a way..."
He started typing out private messages to various people, inviting them into the world. "It's a blast here, guys. I bet all of you will enjoy it too!" He clicked send. Within a few moments, one person replied, but the message wasn't sent. Instead, the sender was pulled through the computer monitor into the VG Realm.
Disoriented for a moment, the person looked around and noticed Kenny smiling and offering a hand up. "Hey K-Ness... What's this all about?" The person asked while accepting the hand up. "I'm not sure," Kenny replied. "I just ended up in here. I thought you guys would like to see it too. Want to know the coolest part?" Kenny concentrated for a moment and immediately began to shift in appearance. He started to don a suit of gray armor, almost plastic-like in appearance. He carried Mario Paint mouse nun-chucks (connected with a multi-tap), a Super Scope, Miracle Piano, and a Game Saver Plus. "We can take on different personas! Isn't it great?"
The first guest laughed. "You can be anything you want, and you chose that?" Kenny laughed as well. "Yeah, well, I've been researching all of the SNES games for the party, so I guess it's sort of fitting." The first guest thought for a moment then transformed himself into a facsimile of someone. Kenny looked puzzled. "You were commenting on my odd choice, well..." The guest grabbed Kenny and laughed. "This is going to be my world now, you got it? I'm the greatest role there has ever been in a Super Nintendo game, and with this role, I'll take over the VG Realms."
Kenny pushed the guest away. "What are you talking about? And where's this coming from? It's a game world, where we can be and do whatever we want. There's plenty of room for all of us!" The guest shook his head. "Part of playing a video game is mastering it. I'm going to master this world whether you're with me or not."
Kenny started to get angry. "You know that not everyone is going to accomodate you on this. Others are coming, and they'll stand up against you." The guest smiled. "It wouldn't be fun if they didn't. I'll find the ones who are with me, and together, we will take out those who oppose us. So, Kenny... Are you with me... or against me?"
Kenny raised the Super Scope. "One guess..."
**********
Hours later, after everyone had finally arrived, questions were asked as to where Kenny might be. The first guest was also gone, but none really knew that person was ever here. As the players remained, they began to transform into their video game counterparts that were burned into their minds. Each went about their seperate ways, explorer everything the world had to offer.
Here and there, some were visited by the first guest. He proclaimed the terms and conditions he created for the world. Some sided with him. Others took on defiance. The game was on, and the first guest knew that was going to be the thrill of a lifetime.
K-Ness has been Data-Dumped! He was K-SNES (Moderator/Super Nintendo Entertainment System), a lifelong fan of video games who strived for a sense of fair play, but also one who wouldn't back down from a challenge. He stumbled into this digital world unknowing of how it worked, but now he is a part of the overall matrix.
