View Poll Results: Who's version of Everybody's Talkin' do you like better
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
I don't know exactly what it is, iconicness, better arrangement, the vulnerability in Nilsson's voice, or more likely a combination of all things, but Harry wins this one for me.
Actually, I stopped because that whole roman numeral thing overwhelmed me.
Then there was the little matter of spilled milk on my keyboard which forced me to rely on a little Toshiba lap top with lousy sound.
As it is, I have to be very careful typing "u"s from now on.

As somebody who spent a considerable amount of time hanging around Greenwich Village in the '60s (at the expense of my high school education)...I cannot think of someone who was part of that folk music scene and eluded commercial success, tho' certainly was deserving of it, more so than Fred Neil.
He was a terrific songwriter with a voice that was a pleasure to hear and in my mind, there have been performers who've done more to inspire cult followings while possessing far less.
Before Harry Nilsson...Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Tim Buckley recorded Fred Neil songs. His second solo LP, which contains this track and other gems (including "The Dolphins"), is simply a classic.
That said, much as I've always been wild about Harry, I'd probably throw my vote here to Fred Neil just because.
But the truth is: I actually prefer his version of his own song.
The Original -- Fred Neil, please!
And THAT said...thanks for bringing back O vs. C, RE!

Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
I'm torn here. I have to admit that I haven't heard the Fred Neil version until now but I'm big on getting exposure for lesser known artists who had the talent to make the song in the first place.
I still am perplexed by people who embrace Quiet Riot but ignore Slade's Come On Feel the Noise when the only real difference in their versions is Quiet Riot had MTV.
I notice I'm getting the usual amount of participation for these.

So you have a cult following and you're complaining?

There's nothing wrong with the Quiet Riot version but it's virtually identical to Slade's version.

Well since I like both versions I'll throw my nod to Mr. Neil.

I have the vinyl with Slade's version. Wait, wrong thread. Anyway sorry, I am late to the party, but glad to see O vs. C back!
I like both, but while Fred Neil's is nice, I have to agree pretty much with Velvetguru9's comment about the overall feel of the song. Great arrangement, and what a great voice.
