So my local venue is doing 600 pts (Half Superman and/or Hulk set) so I decided to make a 600pt Avengers team, but I'm not sure really how I want to set it up... Here's my team.
137 pt War Machine (HOT #200)
178 pt Red Hulk (IH Set)
165 pt Hulk (IH Set 001)
75 pt She-Hulk (IH:FF Set)
39 pt John Jameson (IH Set)
4 pt Scorpio Key
= 598 pts
The problem with this team is that the only big range figure on the team is War Machine. I'm kind of also banking on him getting the Scorpio Key. Another idea I had was also this...
137 pt War Machine (HOT #200)
178 pt Red Hulk (IH Set)
165 pt Hulk (IH Set 001)
78 pt Spider-Man (WOS Set 007)
39 pt John Jameson (IH Set 001)
= 597 pts. Annoyingly 1 pt away from using the Scorpio Key.
Spider-Man however, would be immensely useful for shooting web at the HSS characters and possibly sticking them in place.
Anyone have any ideas to what I should change? I thought about running the 150pt FF Hulk instead of the 165 to give myself enough for the Scorpio Key, but I really like the anti-outwit/19 defense/5 damage on the main Hulk's rage click.
Swith out regular hulk for Hercules from the new set. Drop John Jameson and replace with Amadeus. Hercules is amazing, trust me on this,(I sounded like a know it all there, and it bugged me, so I'll elaborate, his card looks good, but in competitive play, he really brings home the bacon, being incredibly hard to kill and extremely effect in landing the big hits. He's consistantly really good output, especially with amadeus in tow) and Amadeus is a GREAT support piece. Still Avengers theme team. and you free up 14 points to either beef up another selection or add something special in the item department.
I like Hercules on the team, but man his back dial has got some serious low defense. He also can't fly (Hulk has leap-climb that's why I'm kind of leaning towards him) so it's difficult to find ways around the massive block terrain to get to the HSS characters. But Amadeus Cho is a total possibility for the Outwit and Prob Control.
The more I think about the theme team idea, the more I don't want to do it. It seems a lot to have to utilize an odd variety of pieces to try to take on some really tough things like 300pt Superman and what not.
Just tested this team out, it has a LAME 38 pt gap which I cannot fill. Honestly though, I may take out the Scorpio Key and just toss in John Jameson. It seems like it takes forever to pick up the key. Overall though, this team was pretty successful. Spider-Man and Red Hulk were the main stars, while War Machine was derping trying to pick up the key. Green Hulk did pretty much nothing but charge around on click #1 and miss a whole lot.
137 pt War Machine (HOT #200)
178 pt Red Hulk (IH Set)
165 pt Hulk (IH Set 001)
78 pt Spider-Man (WOS Set 007)
4 pt Scorpio Key
IH Hulk 165
IH She Hulk 105
IH Amadeus Cho 59
HoT War Machine 137
CA Falcon 79
SI Spider-Man 50
Gem or Key or some other 5 point or less object
Total 600 (with 5 point object)
It's hard to build a balanced Avengers team when 300 point of it has to come from Hulk. You could also take out Falcon and put in Iron Fist or even WoS Spider-Man.
If you really want to use the Scorpio Key this would help cut down on your unused points:
178 IH028 Red Hulk
165 IH001 Hulk
137 HA200 War Machine
59 IH027 Amadeus Cho
50 SI001 Spider-Man
4 CAS101 Scorpio Key
593
SI Spidey's defense isn't as good as WoS Red Spidey but he does have flurry and a 6 range which gives you another viable alternative for the key. If you're ok without using the key and not having anyone with probability control you could also drop Cho and then add SI004 Iron Fist at be exactly at 600 points.
If I were to field an Avengers theme tem for IG month 2, I would probably scrap IH001 Hulk in favor of getting a few more figs
IH025 Rick Jones 48
IH027 Amadeus Cho 59
IH028 Red Hulk 178
IH204 She Hulk 125
HA200 War Machine 137
SI001 Spider-Man 50
= 597
She-Hulk and Rick Jones bring Perplex, which can help you survive your opponent's first strike. You then have War Machine and Red Hulk to counter-attack. Spider-Man makes a nice tie-up piece, who can also dish out nice damage with Flurry, especially if his damage can be increased with Perplex.
The only reason I'm hesitant to play SI Spider-Man is because he has vanilla Super Senses which can just be easily dealt with through outwit. Flurry is okay, but I need to get him to base stuff first. I'd rather use WOS007 Spidey and shoot some web at some guys to stick them there.
Team 1
131 IH026 Hercules
105 IH007 She-Hulk
59 IH027 Amadeus Cho
48 IH025 Rick Jones
149 SI033 Dr. Strange
99 CA031 Steve Rogers
591
The idea behind this team being that Strange moves up cautiously backed by Rogers, Cho, Jones, and either Herc or She-Hulk who can bump his range up to a 13 thus keeping out potential Mind Control and Outwit range unless people expose themselves to a ranged attack from Strange that could deal as much as 6 damage followed by a 5 damage running shot from Rogers depending on alignment and use of perplex. Herc and She-Hulk stay behind the range attackers until they see an opening to charge.
I found this on another thread about building an Avengers team for the IG month II
