BIG Argument at yesterday's tourney.
Can the 10 range for telekenisis be perplexed up to a longer distance? Perplex rules list range and do not specify that it has to be "printed" range. No FAQ or rule in the books address this specifically without "interpreting" to a degree that was unacceptable to both sides of the argument. Anybody got a solid answer that can clearly be backed up?
Please LMK, Mike

This is the exact wording on Telekinesis - "Give this character a close combat action. The attack does no damage. If the attack is successful, move the target figure up to 10 squares in any direction, ignoring hindering terrain and figure bases...."
It says move the figure up to 10 squares, it says nothing about range, or this being a printed stat, Perplex must be used to alter a "combat Statistic" this amt is not a combat statistic.

If a character has a range of "6" printed on his/her base for range then you can Perplex this up to "7" for him to make a Ranged Combat Attack.
If a character with TK has a printed value of "8" on his/her base for range then that means they can hit/attack someone telekinetically 8 squares away. Since this is a Ranged attack then one can Perplex the Range up to "9."
But if the TKer wants to taxi someone using TK then I have to say no to Perplexing the TK taxi movement beyond the alotted 10 squares.
Taxing someone with TK is not an attack per se. The range printed on the dial has nothing to do with the maximum 10 squares movement. Using a Telekinetic "fist" to whack someone is a Ranged combat attack. Picking someone up and moving them as a taxi is using the TK as a Power.
For the same reason you can't Perplex the range of Outwit and PC is the same reason you can't Perplex the range of a TK taxi.
Now--
If you have an opponent BtB with your TKer and you successfully roll an attack on the opponent and want to use TK to move your opponent away 10 squares I am unsure if this could be Perplexed to "11." I will say no because the maximum 10 squares for TK movement is not a printed value.
I am at work and don't have my FAQ's or PAC or Rulebook. When I get home I will check this out. Assuming HeroComplex or Tsannik or asz or any other of the reliable Judges don't answer you first.
PERPLEX By behaving in a misleading or unpredictable fashion, this character makes opponents less effective in combat. (Optional) Once during your turn, this character may add or subtract 1 to any combat value (including range) for any character in the game. This effect lasts for the duration of your turn. This character must be within 10 squares of the affected character and have a clear line of fire to that character. If the Perplexed character is damaged or healed during the turn, the effect ends.
The rules says this about combat values
Quote
Each character has five combat values. Four of these values can change during the game: speed, attack, defense and damage. They are on the combat dial, and can be seen through the stat slot. The fifth value is range, which never changes and is printed on the base. Each value appears next to its symbol.

TELEKINESIS This character can use a close combat attack to move another figure or object. The object can be used as a weapon. (Optional) Give this character a close combat action. The attack does no damage. If the attack is successful, move the target figure up to 10 squares in any direction, ignoring hindering terrain and figure bases. This character must have a clear line of fire to the destination square. This character may also move adjacent friendly figures and objects in squares adjacent to him or
her (without making an attack roll). The target figure or object may not be placed in blocking terrain. This character may use Telekinesis in order to use an object as a weapon (see the Objects section of the rulebook).
The range of TK is not limited or enhanced by modifying the combat value of 'range' because TK is a close combat action.
Heh, I have PDF copies of all the FAQs and PACs. I also use the HTML version of the rules that WizKids have on their site. THis way i dont get spelling and other errors when i quote.
