Hi....
I have a question regarding the shield team ability. Here is the scenerio...
I have a figure with running shot and the shield is next to him. Can I call that im using the shield team ability, then start my running shot not carrying the shield? I think so but I wanted to make sure. Thanks alot
I think you would have to carry the shiled and have him next to you during the attack.
Tell me what you think is worse?
The Don yellin out "This is my turf!"
Or the fact you don't know what to do
When you finally realize that "Dusk is upon you!"
When the actual ranged attack is made, that is when the SHIELD agent must be adjacent. In the case of RS, the attacking figure must end his move adjacent to the SHIELD agent if he wishes to benefit from the damage boost.
On the same note, you can end the move portion of Running Shot adjacent to a Shield agent or Enhancer and get the bonus even if you started the move away from that fig.
But that can't possibly work. The Sheild team states that you may give the Sheild team member a move action without moving them to give a point of damage to an adjacent character. If the character wasn't in base to base when you start, then you can't give them the click.
The reason this is complicated, and the reason I've been so confused about it in the past, is because Running Shot, that is the move and the shot, are both one complete action, not two different actions. Thus, you can't move for a running shot, use the Sheild Ability, and then take the shot.
It makes much more sense if the Sheild bonus travels with the character, but the problem then arises, if it travels with Running Shot, why couldn't it travel with someone who is taxied. Then you have problems of people charging shots, then taxieing Mandarin halfway across the board to deliver some seven click of damage and possibly Outwitting on the first turn. Even I would have to call that excessive.
So, can a judge tell me if Sheild carries with taxies, with Running Shots, etc? Personally, I think it should work with Running Shot, but how would the rules keep you from using it with Taxis?
As I said, the requirement for a SHIELD agent to use his ability is adjacency to the attacker at the time of the attack. Not necessarily the action, but the attack. Beginning RS adjacent to the agent and then leaving adjacency doesn't work, as the SHIELD agent will not be adjacent at the time of the attack. The same applies to taxiing---when the attack occurs, the SHIELD agent is irrelevant.
In regards to the mid-action interruption---SHIELD is already an anomaly. It must be declared to occur at the start of another figure's action, though it is also an action in and of itself. It then continues to act throughout the figure's attack, essentially, and so it's very nature is to mess with the rules regarding action timing. The fact that it does so a tad more for Running Shot isn't too great a discrepancy.
