I was having discussion with my fellow clixers and we got around to talking about byes and what would be a fair way to do byes? So I thought I would ask on HCR what does the majority think is a fair way to do byes when it comes to points?
Guess I can't do a poll LOL. If someone wants to do a poll that would be great.
Zero points just the win
50% of the points scored and a win
100% of the points scored and a win
Other (Please post)
I give the player half the points of the full build total +1 and a WIN.
So if it was a 300 point game, theyd get 151 W to give them the benefit of the doubt but no way are they getting all 300 when they couldve easily just lost the match.
Back in the day when you scored KO and Survivor points in the same scenario they wouldve scored 301 W in this scenario.
Or if I play to fill in the bye they play me straight up, W or L and tally up real points.

There've been several good threads on this lately.
We do it that the player with a bye plays the judge, and gets what points they truly earned, in addition to a W.
The best idea was from Daddyman or someone who suggested that if one of the undefeated players got a bye, only factor the top 2 (or 3, or however many rounds were actually played by the bye guy) of each winner.

I like that rule. Though the auto W doesn't sit right with me. It could still let someone get to the finals with a free 0 point win even if all their figures were koed without koing anything else.
The problem (with byes overall, not any particular way of handling them) is that when a random player has to take one in the first round, they could either easily be helped or hindered or disqualified through no fault of their own. I've seen a couple places where the decision was "people with a bye can't win the whole thing" which sucks if you are handed a first round bye, because the rest of the tournament is a waste of time for you. (as far as prizes go. Yes, it's about fun, but plenty of fun games can be played, this is in regards to tournament structure)
I've been at venues that awarded 0, 1, half, and whatever you KO (if playing the judge) when a bye is awarded. I prefer the latter-- no player should have to be penalized as the "odd player out."
Awarding 0-1 points for a bye isn't right, as a player is at a strict disadvantage in the event that 2+ players would be tied for 2nd place based on win/loss record. The loser of the championship match isn't always guaranteed second place.
