There are "Mutants", people who evolove.
There are "Aliens", people who have powers that are otherworldy.
And then there are Radiation inflicted mutations, like that of spider-man and the Hulk. Technically they are not mutants, but they have gone through genetic mutations.
It has been said in the comics that Spiderman is indeed a "Mutant" even though he was not born with the gene that caused his mutation. But since his body (blood and DNA) did mutate, he is considered a mutant by some.
I too would go with "Enhanced Human" or "Altered", or even "Mutated", but not a true Mutant, like any X-man, who is born as a mutant with super powers. Steve Rogers and Norman Osborne were "Enhanced", and no one calls Captain America or the Green Goblin Mutants. It's a small distinction, but it's a big difference, at least to those who care.
This site is for an upcoming MMORPG which looks to be very promising. In the HEROES section lists a pretty good breakdown of the different classifications of heroes and a brief description of what they are.
Mutants are people born differently.
Mutates are people who later in life a changed like Hulk, Spider-man and the FF.
when it comes to the comic books & sentintels Mutates are just as be a threat due to genetic Impurity. they have targeted humans with only genetic impurities and they were not mutants or mutates.
So Spiderman is NOT a Mutant! These nimrods at AmericanDreamComics.com were even consulting the dictionary under the term mutation. I tried to point out to them that the dictionary has no bearing on the Marvel Universe. They said that it does, I then challenged them to look up Wolverine in the dictionary and see if they find a picture of Logan...
Spider-Man has been mistaken for a mutant even by the X-Men. Some say it's possible that the radioactive bite triggered a latent mutation in his genes so that if left alone it may have been possible that he would have developed naturally. But as far as Marvel Comics and their official definition of "mutant", Spider-Man is NOT one.
Actually the same thing happened to Namor as well. Being mistaken for a "mutant". And for all intents and purposes he's more of a mutant than Spider-Man is. But his race is known as Homo Mermanus. So because of that odd distinction, he's not a mutant either. Although speaking purely scientifically, he is.
Either way Spider-Man got his powers from an "outside" source and his powers officially aren't latent that surfaced from radiation. He shouldn't be classified as a mutant in any way unless Marvel rewrites his origin stating that his exposure to radioactivity activated the "mutant" genes in his blood.

So here I go adding to Kaitouace's sig again, but he hit the nail on the head. FOOM is very playable.

Can you list the issue where Cerebro classified him as a mutant? I sure would like to see it!
The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe ( pick it up in back issues bins) defines a Mutant as " A person born with inate powers or abilities diffrent than those of his/her parents, due to an X gene in there Genetic struture."
Spiderman is not a mutant, he, like the FF and Cap America is and Enhanced Human. The Submariner, and his cousin Namorita, are mutants, because your average Homo Mermanis has got blue skin, and dosent have super strenth and flight. Intrestingly Syrin ( the daughter of the Banshee{which would be an Awesome Click}, late of X-force) is also not a mutant, as her powers are excatly those of her fathers, therefore not a mutation in her.
Now can sombody tell me how Carol Danvers (Warbird) is currently an Avenger when she was killed when Rogue absorberd all her powers and personality into her, the reason Rogue went from being a ####py 14 year old evil Mutant to being the Powerhouse X-Man she is today? Try as i might i can't find anybody to explain this to me.
Real Quick three Clix id love to see: Warlock( New Mutants) with shapchange, perplex and potentialy mega damage ( the transmode virus can kill at a touch) , Adam Warlock( Infinity Watch) with cosmic powers, maybe a unique weilding the Infinity Guantlet( probably tooo powerful but a nice dream) , and Magik (Illiyana Rasputin, New Mutants) with three different sculps ala Sue Storm, showing three stages of her development the third totaly covered in armor vis a vie the Inferno storyline. Bad ###.

She wasn't killed. She was brain-dead. Prof X got Carol out of that fix. She was sort of a blank slate for a while, then she became Binary (in the Starjammers), a powerhouse Rogue could only dream of being. She eventually regained her memories and return to earth for Avengers vol.3 Number 1. Her Binary powers faded, and she took her old costume and renamed herself Warbird (she was an Air Force Colonel). She's had some ups and downs since then, but she's currently an Avenger, playa-hatin on Black Panther.
