So, the other night I played a game with my friends and one was using gg032 Adam Warlock and put Auto Regen on him. I told my buddy you couldn't use Auto Regen on him because he can only use Regen as a double power action.
Quote
Adam Warlock can use Impervious, but can't be given any actions except a double power action to use Regeneration.
So this means he can use Regen, but only as a double power action, correct? We ruled against using the feat with him, but I wanted to double check and make sure I wasn't a jerk about the rules. I mean, if it just said he could use Imperv and Regen I wouldn't argue, but it stated it had to be a double power action.
"The only action AW can take when that power is showing is a double power action to use Regeneration.
He can't take the free action for Regeneration that Automatic Regeneration would allow."
Incorrect.
You can be given a double power action as a free action.
For example, when Mastermold uses multi attack, he is given a power action that allows him to be given any 2 actions as free actions. This includes his ability to use double power actions.
So in effect, he is given a power action, then 2 free actions, and each of the free actions can used to give him a double power action.
If Adam warlock can only use regeneration via a double power action then the feat that allows him to use regeneration as a free action would allow him to use the double power action to use regeneration as a free action.
You can not use automatic Regeneration on Adam Warlock.
Automatic Regeneration let's you use regen as a free action.
2012 Rule Book page. 9
A double power action can not be given as a free action.
Doesn't even have to go that far. The special power is very clear: the only action he can be given, period no exceptions, is a double power action to use Regeneration.

A free action wouldn't meet that criteria.
If a character is given a double power action as a free action it is still a double power action.
Therefore if a double power action is given as a free action it would still meet the criteria of a double power action being used to activate regeneration.

Per the new rulebook double power actions can no longer be taken as free actions. This was effective as of July 1, 2012.
Further, read the post from Normalview again, the only action of any kind that can be taken is a double power action to activate regeneration. If he could free action DPA to use auto-regen, it still would not work because the ONLY action he can be assigned is a DPA to use Regeneration.

It is both: free action and double power action.
His special power says he can ONLY be given double power actions. There is no exception made for free actions.
