View Poll Results: How many points should a Bye get?
I was having discussion with my fellow clixers and we got around to talking about byes and what would be a fair way to do byes? So I thought I would ask on HCR what does the majority think is a fair way to do byes when it comes to points?
Zero points just the win
50% of the points scored and a win
100% of the points scored and a win
Other (Please post)
The average of all your games to me seems fair. If you draw a bye round 1, then score 230 points in round 2. Then 300 in the final round. Your bye round points should be 177.
230 + 300 divided by the 3 total rounds. 176.666666. Round up to 177.
Other-- give them the average of their other rounds.

Somebody beat me to it. But I would give them 265 for their bye round.
Hmm, we must do it wrong. We just have the person wait until the first game is done and then play one of them. Someone at the end will volunteer to play a third game for them. But as this seems to involve higher up levels than local, nevermind.

I like the bye to be 0 points and a win. Then the person wthat had the bye is top seed against the highest pointed person from round 1. Gotta earn your points. The lowest score with a loss gets bye in round 2. In round 3 they face off the highest 1-1 player if applicable. The highest 1-1 player should play against the lowest 2-0 player then insert the player with the bye in round 2 to face the next 1-1.
In essence a bye only hurts a good player in the first round. After that the bye goes to weaker/unluckier player for that event. Not really a big deal to me. As I get the bye some times.

People with byes shouldn't be punished, so they should get 100% of the points, but the real problem is that points a a tie breaking system is very flawed. It rewards players who play a weak schedule that allows them to get more points than someone who plays a tougher lineup.
There are also many situations where you can make the correct move to go for a win, or pick off easy targets for more points. That's part of the game etc. etc, but to me the game is better if each participant is genuinely trying to win every match, rather than just trying to game the system for points. A better start for tie breakers is opponent win %, then perhaps margin of victory expressed as a plus/minus stat, which would better reflect the dominance of each players' victories and defeats.
In the sealed event for Chaos War I got the first round bye. In my other two rounds I smoked my opponents in 6 minutes and 15 minutes (respectively) and ended up 3-0 but came second on points. A 50% of build total pointed win for my bye might have been enough for the win. Getting the bye shouldn't immediately take you out of contention for the win and, in most cases, it does.
taking a bye is a gift in itself you get to advance without playing that should be it
And if it comes down to points you get screwed because you have a 0 point win. Also, people come out to play clix. A bye may be a free win but you are being punished by not being able to play. Even if you play the judge it still ain't the same. 100% plus the win is what we do at my place.
