Greetings Clix-Fans! When the Chaos War main set and Fast Forces came out (I refuse to use the word dropped) a lot of people expressed to me how much they wanted Scarlet Witch but didn’t want the rest of the Fast Forces.
Most would take Mockingbird. Some were okay with Wasp. But the other 3 have been done to death. I understood and agreed.
Being a Clix-junky, I bought it, though and have played the figures from the set and I thought I’d share a review of the Fast Forces to help those players who are feeling remorseful on getting this set.
I went through the figures, 1 at a time and expressed the pros and cons of each. Hopefully you’ll find something of value from reading this review.
I’ll touch on the map briefly as I know saturnflight reviews these in detail already.
The Castle Side is a neat idea with scads of elevated terrain. It favors mobile ranged figures (never a good thing in my opinion). My biggest gripe, though, is the map would be great to have 2 copies of to make an enclosed courtyard but the theme of this Fast Forces seems to be “force players to get it” and if you want a second one you are going to have to talk to your friends.
The other side is the Quinjet hanger. This map is just plain weird. Being indoors you can’t fly, shoot, or draw line of fire over the center of the map so a lot of the space is wasted. If your team gets split between both sides you will have a heckuva time trying to link up. Haven’t played on it yet but at least it’s a new unique setting.
No dice. Boo.
On to the figures:
6) Iron Man:
How could they not have reused the Drone Iron Man sculpt here?
Lets take a look at Iron Man’s newest armor design. Dupes of this character don’t bother me provided the point cost is significantly different. After the gluttony of 150-160 point armors its nice to have a cheaper model to consider. This is the 8th Iron Man in to come out this year - with 10th anniversary still to come. Let’s check it out:

(Speed) Stand Together!: When turning the dial, if there is an adjacent friendly figure with the Avengers keyword and the same or higher point value and this click is revealed due to damage taken from an opponent's attack, stop turning the dial.
(Attack) Thermal Vision: Iron Man ignores hindering terrain for line of fire purposes.
First you will notice Iron Man is a sharpshooter. Clearly Tony put more focus into his tracking systems as this is the first Sharpshooter Iron Man – a plus. Combined with Penetrating damage and we have an Iron Man who can cleverly position behind low value targets to shoot high value targets without that pesky Prob Control forcing a reroll.
He picks up Outwit as he dips below average in attack value before heading back to average. He also gains “Thermal Vision” which is very useful is you were someone who refused to buy figures that have a movie-style sculpt on them. Its always important to remind players that the Sharpshooter does not ignore hindering terrain so Tony, here, is teaching everyone a lesson.
At the end he gains Regen which with a good roll can heal him back to Outwit. One thing I like about this design is Marvel’s answer to the LIVE! click on the White Lanterns. Stand Together! is more limited than the DC version since it requires an adjacent Avenger of 125 points or more next to him to activate, which is an unnecessary downer. Still, if it works, on Iron Man it plants him right on his Regen click which, if your opponent does not have enough actions will give him the opportunity to stick around a little longer.
Not to think everything is great with this suit, the biggest draw back for me is Tony turning in his jetboots for his jet skates.
What kind of tactical advantage is skates going to give unless its to celebrate good times? C'mon!
I was as surprised as Captain America and the Mandroids to see an Iron Man without the Flight symbol. “Wild”, indeed. Anyway, while this certainly keeps his cost down it lowers his mobility, tying him up in hindering terrain, water terrain and having to use ladders to change elevation.
Another con is the 6 range – lower than most Iron Mans. Still with Sharpshooter, I think the ultimate sting of these two cons is lessened. Is he great? No. But he might find yourself looking for a cheap Iron Man and this guy might just surprise you.
5) Thor:
To be honest, this is the 10th version of Thor in 8 months. That is an overload, I would think by even the biggest of Thor fans (of which I am certainly not). But the one thing this Thor gives us that IS different is he is the cheapest Thor since the Clobberin’ Time rookie (109). So for that alone he has some value. Check him out:
(Speed) Stand Together!: When turning the dial, if there is an adjacent friendly figure with the Avengers keyword and the same or higher point value and this click is revealed due to damage taken from an opponent's attack, stop turning the dial.
Right off the bat you should notice he’s got Running Shot, 11 attack, 8 range, 4 damage and Indomitable. The cheapest version of that combo prior to Thor was 141 points (gg031 Captain Marvel) with the majority of figures above 200 points!
If you are making a large Avenger team and want to squeeze in a Thor, this version is gong to give you everything you need for an Asgardian Warrior. Deeper into his dial he is brought down to Midgard as his attacks go to average and then below average by click 4. The lack of a damage reducer on this click and his final one is a real shock for me and the two clicks of 2 damage leave this Thunder God more of a Rain Shower God. But you are saving points.
I never tire of this cover!
Thor also loses the ability to fly, gaining the :boot: symbol as well. No “Thor-Skates” this time. This hurts his mobility and value as a taxi however he is able to be taxied himself – something that may surprise an opponent.
Thor also gets the Stand Together! click but its best use would be to deny your opponent points. With a 15 defense with nothing to protect him, Thor will be getting KO’d next turn. Plus, if you are using a 125 point Thor odds are you went cheap on all the Avengers so he is likely still the most expensive version you have.
Still his top click is so powerful, if you can keep him on it (with the help of Sharon Carter, for example) this Thor may prove to be worth his points.
4) Wasp:
Chaos War brings us 2 new Wasps – the 77 point regular set version and this 50 point version:

(Special) Winsome Wasp: Wasp breaks away automatically.
The only flier in the set its important to know that with the Tiny Mechanic she can’t carry any of her fellow Fast Forces teammates.
Contrasting with half the figures in this set, Wasp is 2nd when it comes to least made characters. This is her 8th version ever made.

For 6 points more you get a lot. +1, +2, and +3 to attack as you go down the dial. +1 to range. You lose Leadership and the TA but I think most players would prefer Perplex on their 50 point figure. I know I do.
Her trait is what really seals the deal on this figure as she can never be tied down. This gives your Perplex and Outwit extra mobility and her dual targets (which normally I loathe at short range since I'd rather have the approx. 10 point savings) makes her below average attack value more worthwhile.
Her Stealth protects her from Outwit while her Tiny size protects her from range. Feel free to buzz around the battlefield keeping big threats at bay while going into the backfield to plink those annoying support pieces your opponent is fielding. If not, keep her near the main attacker and just harass the heck out of them with the Perplex / Incap combo.
If facing a single major attacker with HSS, I’d almost rather stay off of Hindering Terrain to goad them into shooting at Wasp’s 19 defense (20 if you Perplex yourself) from range rather than making it obvious they will have to run up and punch you.
She is a huge bargain in the set if you are an Avengers fan.
3) Mockingbird:
Not since Sinister have we had Bobbi Morse join us. This is her 4th incarnation. As long time players know, her Vet version has long been the gold standard of tie-up pieces. L/C mobility + 19 defense in close, everyone dreaded getting based by her.
This version is a little bit different:

(Special) October 12th: When a friendly character named Hawkeye is adjacent to Mockingbird, they both modify their attack values by +1 if not already modified by this effect.
NuMockingbird brings the offense, this time. Exploit Weakness to start coupled with L/C and Willpower means she can hunt down any beefy powerhouse that is sporting two action tokens. Getting to her second click is unlikely given few figures deal 1 damage. By the third she is dealing 3 with CCE and on her likely seen 4th click she returns to her Sinister version with an 18 defense in close-combat.
5 clicks of life means she won’t last long in sustained combat but her value lies in all the other threats you should have built onto your team. And then there is her trait: 10/12 which gives her a +1 to attack (starting 11 attack!) if she is adjacent next to any figure named Hawkeye as well as giving that same +1 to anyone adjacent named Hawkeye.
The Hawkeye in Chaos Wars is great and Bobbi will only make him better mid dial once he takes damage. (A 12 attack starting will usually hit anyway) Her real value, in my opinion, will be boosting those 65 & 75 point Hawkeye’s from the AVM set. Its an amazing 125 point combo!
And if you are crushed for points she can come in as 25 points and still bring the +1 trait. Add in the SHIELD ATA and for 31 points you give Hawkeye a +1 to hit and increase your Outwit, Prob and Perplex to an 11 range. Not too shabby.
2) Scarlet Witch:
The #1 figure in the Fast Forces set and the main reason most people would even consider getting this thing. This is the 9th version of HeroClix ever and the first since Avengers.
For years fans have clamored for a Scarlet Witch that wasn’t just lazy dial designed Prob Control. And finally, well – its still not right but it IS going in the right direction:

So we continue in the vein of strong support figure. For 75 points she fills the role nicely. TK up front combined with Perplex and Prob will make her a must have. Short life and inability to effectively push is a huge downside but if you want the character, you are kinda stuck here.
I like her. I do. I just wished she was more. The Chaos Magic SP her duo with Wonder Man gets is SO MUCH BETTER and captures an element of Wanda none of the others do. Scarlet Witch has more teeth than any other version, so that is a plus.
Mystics will deter fragile figures and newer players but at 75 points and only 5 clicks of life she won’t survive long if too close to the fighting.
Another design flaw is where her Chaos Magic clicks are. Top dial makes sense but having it return on click 3 means when she is hit for the standard 3 damage she won’t see it. With a little Phasing on click 4 she could escape and push to get to the end dial where she really supports the team but with no move powers, nor PC, she’s going to only have a 50/50 chance of escaping.
Overall she isn’t amazing or anywhere near what she could have been but on a solid, big point Avengers team she will help them out immensely. In Golden Age I will always attach Force Field giving her a full dial of Toughness and extending her life.
1) Captain America:
This is the 11th version of Steve Rogers available in Modern Age and the 8th of the year. So why would anyone choose this guy?

(Speed) Stand Together!: When turning the dial, if there is an adjacent friendly figure with the Avengers keyword and the same or higher point value and this click is revealed due to damage taken from an opponent's attack, stop turning the dial.
(Damage) Avengers Assemble: Captain America can use Leadership. When he uses Leadership and rolls a 6, he may also remove an action token from another adjacent character with the Avengers keyword that's 125 points or less.
I like this guy. I dismissed him outright as soon as I saw “Captain America” but I was wrong. This could be the best Cap for the Avengers.
Hear me out! Strong stats up front with an 11 attack / 3 damage and Charge. He has dual targets letting you hedge your bets when flinging that shield from up to 6 away.
I can hear you now. Charge + ES/D is a waste! But Cap has Quake which will be very useful. Charge in and Quake, knocking back opposing figures 1-2 squares and his ES/D becomes more useful. More useful than that, this Cap leads the way by clearing out tie-up figures. Yup, charge in, Quake away those pesky Iron Man drones back out of the way freeing up your other figures to better position!
Granted we have a lot of this design already. But check out the Special Power “Avengers Assemble”. Not only does he have Leadership. Not only does is he able to remove a token from 2 friendly adjacent figures if he rolls a 6 (one must be an Avenger). He has the ability to remove a token from an Avenger that costs 75-125 points! Recent versions of Cap max out at 100 points so only with this Fast Forces Cap can we have a chance of removing a token from 100+ point Avengers like Iron Man (3 are in this range), Thor (1 in this range), Ms. Marvel, Quicksilver, Wolverine, Namor, and more.
Now the elephant in the room is this guy:
You thought I was going to ignore him, didn't you?

(Special) The Suit: Captain America can use Toughness.
(Defense) Shield Slash: When Captain America makes a ranged attack and the result of the attack roll is doubles, he deals penetrating damage. When Captain America makes a ranged attack and the attack roll is 10 or higher, give an action token to all hit characters after actions resolve.
And among range-heavy players they will gladly pay the additional 15 points to get Running Shot boy, here. While not my favorite aspect of Cap, I do LOVE his Toughness trait.
So what do we get from the FF Cap besides the Quake combo and the ability to remove a token from 90-125 point Avengers - both of which the CW regular set version can't do?
The final special power: Stand Together. On this figure it is the best. At 75 points he has a good chance of standing next to a figure his cost or higher. This is great on a figure with only 6 clicks of life since the average damage value is 3. But he finishes on Willpower with a 17 defense AND Outwit. This allows Cap to be useful his final click which you are very likely to land on.
So in closing, the Fast Forces Chaos War pack is a set designed not for the most powerful of each figure but rather a team-building asset:
500 Point Heroic Age Avengers:
FF Captain America 75 + Avengers ATA
FF Wasp 50 + Avengers ATA
CW Vision 95 + Avengers ATA
GSX Beast 95 + Avengers ATA

Reason: Bad math - darn you Vision! Thanks Thunderclese.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
Nice reviews. I did not even look at my FF Cap, and I may have to play him now. Scarlet Witch and Mockingbird are my favorites from this pack. Deceptively awesome!
I was so excited to see scarlet witch after the JL52 Enchantress review...I thought for sure the FF or main set one would be similar. I was so disappointed when I realized she was a FF only figure and the Wanda I wanted was a duo chase (I got her and wonderman I just don't like the duo aspect) the chaos magic was perfect for her but it just felt...meh for having to always have wonderman with her. (that may have more to do with my hangouts than anything else though.
Why can't Wasp carry? I thought her Tiny size only, intentionally, overrides their own combat symbols so they can be carried.
You mean with the wing symbol, she can't carry?
The Carry ability prevents characters from taxiing larger characters.
God is smarter than we are....

(Attack) Repulsor Rays: After Iron Man hits a character with a ranged combat attack and actions resolve, you may knock back that character an equal amount to the difference between Iron Man's range value and the number of squares to that character.

(Attack) Bio Electric Blasts: Wasp can use Incapacitate. If she uses it and hits, deal the target 1 penetrating damage after actions resolve.
The one in the Fast Forces might be able to carve out a place for itself, but the one in the set is absolutely fantastic.
Invulnerable targets? Just hit them with incapacitate and sneak a point of penetrating damage through (on two different targets!). No damage reduction? Haul off and blast them for 3 damage.
All with a swing of 11 squares.
But like I said, there may be times and places where the 50 pointer just works out, and it isn't a bad choice.

(Speed) I'll Save You, No Matter What: If a friendly character of a lower point value took damage since your last turn, Captain America can move using Leap/Climb as a free action.
(Damage) Howlers, Let's Go!: Captain America can use Leadership. When he succeeds on his Leadership roll, he may remove up to 2 action tokens instead of 1 if both tokens are removed from adjacent friendly character(s) with the Howling Commandos keyword.
I like both of these at least as much as the one in the FF pack.
++++++++++
So then come Scarlet Witch and Mockingbird, and the whole reason for the Fast Forces is revealed.
The whole thing was all about giving us new versions of a couple of characters that have been retired for 2 years+, and each a reasonably popular character not just in Clix lore, but in comics, but we had to buy the Fast Forces pack to get them.
No, they aren't the most popular characters in the world, but I, for one, wanted Scarlet Witch before I ever saw the dial. In fact, I did not initially buy the Fast Forces because I was going to get a Scarlet Witch from the main set and that would make me happy.
That would be enough for me, no matter how average the dial might have been.
Only they didn't put her in the main set.
For Wizkids, me being happy without spending the money on that Fast Forces was unacceptable.
To add insult to injury, they included three duo chase figures that would need one of these two ladies to provide a player with all of the splitting and merging options.
Not to mention putting Ultron only in the CTD, so if you wanted yet another major character (and to get the most playability out of another figure in the main set, the Ultron Drones), you can't skip out on the CTD, either.
If sales are slipping to the point that they are having to do this stuff to pick them back up, then maybe they should take the hint and stop putting out so much stuff.
Was the player base crying out for another Fast Forces with more versions of Thor, Cap, and Iron Man? Another CTD with more of the same?
Don't need a Fast Forces every time a set comes out with new dials of characters in that set using the same sculpts.
CTDs can contain all the different dials and uber-chases that Wizkids wants to put in them.
Super-Hulk and chase Loki mean nothing to me. Just different dials for characters that I could get otherwise.
...Well I wasn't sure how anyone could possibly want more from Scarlet Witch, but the Chaos Magic powers her duos display make powerful arguments.
I feel similarly about the Iron Man and the Thor; They're both cheap versions of the characters that are cost-effective. And seriously: JET SKATES! +2 Cool Points.
I've seen Wasp used to devastating effect, especially when my 200+ point Superman couldn't roll a 6 to hit that little B****. Mockingbird can be pretty flexible, but her main function is tie-up/secondary attacking. Not what the Sinister version used to be, but great for modern age.
Cap... Eh. So many figures ignore knockback or have invuln that I'm just not sure about him. He's a good low-cost version of the character though, and that's never a bad thing. Being sure to get knocked to Outwit is a handy trick.
And I'm desperately trying to get a second Castle map without getting a second pack. The only things I can think of for the figures are second Scarlet Witch (she's ridiculous) and making the Thor Ragnarok (which requires zero modding!)
Overall though, good set. Scarlet Witch is in the meta at my venue, as I've seen 4 players use her in two weeks.
"It is a fool's prerogative to utter truths that no one else will speak." "Prove you have the strength and courage to be free."
I think they are all good for their points. The best FF set in awhile. I bought the set for all the pieces.
I love a lower costed Iron Man with some great tricks. I plan on carrying him out today for a round 2 strike.
Something you forgot about for Thor, he's the best Thor that Donald Blake can change into. Flurry, 10AV, CCE, Indomitable & toughness so he's unlikely to be one hit KOed all for 33 pts! I have too many Thors at the moment, but this guy isn't going anywhere.
Thank you for reading this. It makes me feel important.
@Surfer13:
I agree, I have enough of Cap, Thor and Iron Man already, although the Indomitable on Thor and the P/PB on IM make these versions very playable. I was hoping for kick-tail versions of Witch and Mockingbird in the main set and lower cost versions in the FF, and only got half of that so I'm disappointed there.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
“No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.”
Thanks guys for reading! It was more fun than I expected putting this together.

Crud. That is what happens when you build a team on paper. Edited to fix that…

I can’t deny the value in that Iron Man. What you gain on the FF Iron Man is which takes the sting out of losing flight and Psy-Blast which can be a poor-man’s version of Outwit. His mid-dial “Thermal Vision” improves the value of his attack value.
I’m not saying the 110 version isn’t good – I like him a lot and love his terrain destroying ability. I just think an outright dismissal of the FF armor is a mistake.

This guy costs only 15 points more.
I'll take this Thor and Iron Man for the exact same cost as the FF Thor and Iron Man.
I will disagree, though, on the Thor. The fact the FF version has and is cheaper gives him the edge over losing flight. Throw in Running Shot and being able to push and keep doing it – it makes the FF Thor very top-loaded but what a top click that is!
Sure, you could throw the Asgardian ATA on The Mighty Avenger to give him first click Willpower but he has a pretty mediocre mid-dial, as well. He’s not my choice, anyway.

Fair enough. It depends on who you feel about your Captain America. I know players who think the HoT version is close to the definitive Cap, while hiding behind allies and sniping (especially when teamed with AIM) is as un-Cap like as any figure can be!
The FF Cap, as I offered, is the leader of the Avengers version I always wanted. The AVM Cap is a great ranged attacker, super mobile, get into the action fighter. He has very little tactical value but is a wonderful secondary attacker.
The AVM Howling Commandos Cap doesn’t mesh with the Avengers that well. Again, he is a neat secondary attacker and tie-up piece but he’s not screaming "Avengers Assemble!", you know?
The FF figure just gives enough to make him a really interesting team-build option.
I can’t argue with the rest of the criticisms of the set. It was a shock to see only 1 version of 3 different characters in the Chaos War FF and Single Booster sets that are notable characters to the Avengers. Ironically (or not) if anyone deserved to be made multiple times, it was Scarlet Witch for all the various incarnations she has had since she moved from character to becoming a plot device.

That is a good point although the Single Booster 175 point figure has the same life and defensive powers plus Charge! Personally, I like the CW Rare because he comes in with a Battlefield Condition in effect and you can’t go wrong with RS & 6 range. It makes me wonder if one can assign the Asgardian ATA on him and will it work when AE’s in?
The only plus of having so many versions of characters is it hopefully gives most of us something that we want.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
I used Mockingbird and she tied up Thor and beat on him. Scarlet Witch was great too because she TD'd marquee Vision, gave Hawkeye & Morgan Le Fay Mystics, and she kept using Prob & Perplex. Wasp is a good figure too. Iron & Thor that can't fly are lame.
