What time is it? It's "Cloobering" time with today's Marvel HeroClix: 10th Ann...
Welcome back to another exciting preview from the Marvel HeroClix: 10th Anniversary set! Today we visit Aunt Petunia’s favorite nephew, the ever-lovin’, blue-eyed Thing!
I like The Thing...both the character and John Carpenter' horrific vision of a movie. Anyways, these have some nice sculpts, but for a low cost Thing, I will be reaching for She Thing, and for a veteran version I will be going with either the GG one or Benjamin Grimm LE from SI. I don't play modern tournaments most of the time, so the word "Retired" to me is non-existent. Once a good piece, always a good piece...and I am sort of disappointed that they couldn't come up with a better Thing for the 10th anniversary set. I like the trenchcoat's "Lemme grab something" SP and his decently long dial, but he is going to get "clobbered" initially with the low defenses and lack of indomitable.
Love the lower point one, except for the fact it guarantees I'll never play the CW LE I just won last night.
The other I'm kind of indecisive on. I'm not a big fan of the sculpt as I prefer more dynamic poses (this is a fighting game, after all). Also, I think his special power will only see use if you have reason to give him a move action anyway; without indomitable spending an action and two turns to gain a +1 to damage just isn't worth it. He's got decent stats if you don't look too closely at his defense, and the Shapechange might help some with that.
I guess they get points for trying something new with the character, but honestly I won't be too upset if I only pull the 82 pt version out of my brick.
Just confused that Hulk gets an origin figure and then the Worldbreaker. But you look at The Thing, and he gets 2 figures somewhere in the middle. Really thought they would do an orange apelike figure and maybe a spine filled/beefed up one. Sorry just disappointed that he doesn't have Indom and something else to show he isn't just a brick but a hero with a lot of heart.
Nice figures but obviously a few questionable choices. Oh well, it's nice for thing fans to have options.
Personally I hate to see Thing without indomitable on his later appearance representation. Thing is not only physically extremely durable, he's also just completely all heart. One of my favourite moments in comics was during Bastion's attack on Utopia, all of the non-mutant heroes were outside of the forcefield Bastion had erected and were trying to get in. Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic were trying to science their way in and Thing and Thor, predictably, were just bashing away at the field. Later when it comes back to them people are pleading with Thor and Thing to stop because of the strain the field is having on them - Mjolnir looks the worse for wear and the rocks of Thing's hands are all crushed and broken but they are both like naw, we'll give it a few more. I remember reading that panel and thinking "Oh hey- indomitable!"
edit: cool story bro, and yes I realize plot induced whatever from a particular comic I like doesn't mean anything to dial designers. Just why I personally always think of Thing as one of the most natural characters to have indomitable.
