Here we are with a fresh game courtesy of myself and Gargantua.
We've taken the DC and Marvel universes and plopped them in the United States during the Civil War.
Our focus here, as much as to play the game itself, is to see how that world might look with the emergence of superpowers overlapping it. We both plan vivid story posts to get a feel for the time and the characters we choose. How does Oliver Queen work in this era? Hank Pym?
We also will include Generals and perhaps Presidents (in the last game). Generals can be captured and thus ending a battle. Generals can use leadership but with a twist: with a roll of 5 or 6 we can add an action and also remove an action token from any figure on board.
A few more things. We each get a character who appears in each game, our time traveler. Even if he's koed in game 1, he still appears in full health in game 2. I get Kang Supernova Rookie with protected, Gargantua chose Rip Hunter.
Each battle will consist of 800-850 in points as we predrafted 2500.
I got Marvel and my characters are:

From the personal journals of Nathaniel Richards, Sept. 17, 1862.
I am Kang the Conqueror, master of time. I can assure you this is as
much a challenge as a boon. Knowing time is of course a beautiful
thing. It gives one power beyond measure. But she is a mysterious
lover;time. One moment filled with passion and laughter, the next
indifferent over a supposed slight. You see knowing time, and
being able to use that knowledge without tainting or altering time,
THAT is a delicate thing to master. And it appears that I have yet to
do so....
I am here in 1862 in the American North collecting allies to battle
the South in the United States most pivotal moment in her young
development. You see in my zealousness to win one of my many plans I
did battle with Earth's greatest heroes. The battle and outcome
does not matter. (A hint: recall my mistress time and her supposed
slights? This was yet another).
Regardless, my intervention caused the Age of Heroes to begin nearly a
century before it should have. This alters the outcome of the Civil War and
allows a quicker step into the Industrial Age. The Old West sees superpowered beings battling like Jesse James or Wyatt Earp. But
with superpowers that battle is much less....friendly. The atomic age
is birthed earlier due to the technology unleashed. Atomic power given
to super-powered despots can only be bad news: at the birth of
America's joining WWII her foes release the A-bomb on them. The US
retaliates and......and the end of the world occurs in 1941. All
because a vainglorious Conqueror creates a timeline where the Age of
Heroes begins in the American Civil War.
So, in order to save the world (and my own existence) I must strive to
aid the heroes I know (and detest) in an unkind age where they don't
even know themselves as the men I know them as. Now, under my true
name, I go forth (actually, I go back) and gather a battalion to win
the war. Will I succeed? Only, ahem, time will tell.
"So explain once again what you need from us, Mr. Richards," Howard Stark says.
"Ah yes, back to your fantastic ideas....the Iron Man," he says.
"Hahahaha! He's hardly that (that name is almost infantile, Iron Man).
We believe in our metal armor. It has not been tested yet but it's lighter than chainmail the old knights wore and it could save lives of many in this
ridiculous war," Tony says.
"You tell him, Tony," Kyle Richmond says, "And my idea will provide
jet packs on the backs of soldiers, allowing them to burst into the
sky and fly momentarily. So you're suggesting that if we work with you
against the South you'll help us with make our projects workable."
"Precisely."
"Forgive me if I sound dubious, " father Stark says.
"It is ambitious," Dr. Bruce Banner says.
"I think the technology's there," Dr. Henry Pym interrupts. "I have
read about many European inventors with superior plans. You're from
Europe, correct? What part if I might ask."
"One you've never heard of. And you are....?".
"My manners, Dr. Henry Pym. Dr. Bruce Banner next to me. We work for the Starks and Mr. Richmond, "he says shakily, "Mr. Richmond, I have some ideas to discuss with you." The pair walk away.
"Poor men. I fear they're a pair of tortured souls," Howard Stark says, "Geniuses we were lucky to find".
"How do you mean?" asks Nathaniel Richards.
"Pym. His inventions are well before their time. But
they always seem to come at a price. Look outside, see our rose
garden, Mr. Richards?".
"Lovely."
"Dr. Pym has developed a 'particle' that can grow or shrink things.
Our roses are the biggest and brightest in New York. These particles
also shrink weeds. We can manufacture the perfect garden. With
widespread use, we can end famine. Just imagine what this could do for
the North in war," Tony adds.
"You said there was a price?' Richards asks.
"His fiancee, Janet Van Dyne. Rumor has it she's used one of these
particles. No one has seen her since. On a quiet night sometimes I
hear him speaking to her. He'll say 'Janet, where did I leave my
glasses?' or discuss how he thinks he can recreate a man with only his
bones and some wires. A truly disturbed man," the elder Stark adds.
"And Banner...." he adds, "He's a brilliant man who works with gamma radiology. He was on track to being one of America's greatest scientific minds. But an experiment in his home went terribly wrong....killing his wife Betty....in fact, his father-in-law, the Mexican war hero Thunderbolt Ross is said to have run into the fiery house and saved Banner. But because of his daughter's death the two haven't spoken since."
"Yes," notes Richards and pauses for a second, "We'll need them, too."

"I don't like this," Howard says, practically. "Richards told us he would help us with our armor if we went to battle for him."
"Don't be afraid, father," Tony says, "And have faith."
"I'm not afraid. But faith, I'm low on that score."
"I'm not sure what I'm doing out here," Pym says.
"We need you, Henry. Especially if we can get my jet pack to work and the Stark's armor," Kyle Richmond says.
"I wish you weren't here," Pym says, "It's not safe."
"I'm fine," Richmond says, but quickly realizes it's not him Pym is addressing.
"I'll be ok," the tiniest of voices of a shrunken Janet Pym says, "I can't let you be alone in this. And if it gets too bad I'll send for him."
"Williams? Is the world ready?" he ponders.
"They'll have to be," she says trying to comfort him.
A gang of soldiers stands with Nathaniel Richards.
"My gang's ready but itching to go," Nick Fury says.
"Good," Richards replies looking into the group.
The one codenamed Hawkeye sharpens his arrows and tells a joke to the one called Mockingbird. He laughs at Hawkeye's joke until it turns to innuendo about a girl back home. Then Mockingbird gets quiet. Hawkeye doesn't get it. He's just as stupid in this era as his own, Kang thinks to himself.
"Boss," Hawkeye yells out, "I can see the others guys coming in."
Fury smiles, "He's called Hawkeye for a reason. OK boys, time to fight!".
"Mr. President?" Jefferson Davis looked up from the pile of dispatches at the address.
"Yes David, what is it?" he asked the aide wearily.
"There's a man here asking to see you. He sayshis name is Hunter and he has information that's critical to the war effort."
"David, I have at least three reams of paper here that has information that is critical to the war effort." He waved several sheets of paper in the air to demonstrate. "I have not slept in two days and my head is pounding. I can't meet every crackpot that wants to see me. Take down whatever it is he has to say, and if it really is important at all, you can give me the short version in the morning."
"I tried that, Mr. President. He says he can speak only to you."
Davis's eyebrow went up. An assassin? Why else would he be so insistent? "No David. I will not see him."
"Mr. President, you must," a new voice said. Jefferson Davis and his aide turned. A blond man stood by the fire in a quasi-military uniform.
"That's him! How did you get in here!" the young aide shouted.
"He obviously slipped in while you were talking to me."
"Mr. President, nossir! I close the door. We'd have heard if it had opened."
Davis considered. The young man had a point. The door did squeak on its hinges something terrible.
"Sir. If I may. It doesn't matter how I got in. What matters is what I have to say."
"Well, you are here, and if you were an assassin, I would be dead already. Say what you have to. David, get the man a drink."
"No thank you, I abstain," Rip Hunter said.
"Very well. Get me one anyway," he told his aide. "I have a feeling that I am going to need one."
"You may indeed. THere's a man in the North calling himself Nathaniel Richards. I know him better as Kang..."

Abraham Lincoln awakens with a startle. It's not uncommon these days. The newly elected President of a crumbling United States doesn't sleep much anymore.
"Abe!" Mary calls out, "You must get some sleep."
"I know dear, I know....go back to bed. I'm going to the kitchen."
Walking downstairs his mind goes relives a meeting:
"I need victories, General McClellan. The men seem to love you but I'd just as soon give them a teddy bear if you can't win battles for me," Lincoln says.
"Mr. President, I am convinced the North will win. Maybe without any bloodshed...." McClellan says. "This man, Nathaniel Richards, is offering weapons beyond our wildest dreams."
Lincoln turns to Richards, "And in return?".
"You obey my every command."
"Win this battle," Lincoln says, "And we may continue this conversation."
Lincoln pulls in McClellan. "I'd make a deal with the devil to save this union, McClellan. But I hope that's not what I just did."
"Thank you for the dossier, Col, Fury. I take it you are aware of our
rather covert operation?" .
"That's sort of my specialty, covert operations."
"I see," Nathaniel Richards asks, "The Howling Commandos?".
"Of the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts. Our troop is big on names. You'll see."
"Captain America?".
"Steve Rogers. The men love him. He's a natural born leader and
source of inspiration. He wants one Union, one America, that's his
motto. You should see the way Bucky Barners idolizes him. The boy's
only fourteen but he started this whole 'Corporate
America' thing. He'll be Major America."
"I doubt that," Richards says, "I see several young men here. Peter
Parker, Billy Kaplan, Thomas Shephard .....".
"Good boys, all. Parker and Kaplan are the quiet ones, readers. Parker
reads a lot about arachnids (spiders)....".
"I know."
"Ah....Kaplan's reading a book on the Salem Witch trials, of all
things. His brother is Tommy, he's our messenger. Never seen anyone
move so fast."
"Agt Beaulieu. Gabe Jones. General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross..."
"Some of our best. Ross keeps the boys in line, that's for sure."
"What's this...the Hawkeye? The Punisher? The Bullseye? The Mockingbird? Warpath? The Cannonball? The Blob? The Swordsman? Jack Flag?".
"Told you we were big on names. Clint Barton could knock a peach pit
out of its source from 50 yards. Frank Castle's got a way with weapons.
And a vengeance for the South, they hurt him real bad, it's personal
with him. And Lester...he's a bit of a psychopath."
"Wonderful," Richards quips.
"Mockingbird's Robert (Bobby) Morse. He hangs around Barton all the time, I think it annoys him. Something's a bit off about the guy, can't finger it yet, but no one in the field can sass like he can. Gets the 'Feds
going....and our boys spirits up."
Fury continues, "Let's see. James Proudstar is Iroquois Indian. He's
got a chip on his shoulder as big as New York City so the boys call
him Warpath. Sam Guthrie's a Kentucky boy, no good with a rifle, but he can bolt into folks andconk them out. They call him Cannonball. And Frederick J. Dukes ....well, the boys big. Ain't seen a man....or gun....able to get past him."
Fury pauses for a smoke. "End of the line we have Jacques Duquesne, a master swordsman and trainer. Jack Harrison goes by Jack Flag....".
"And Sharon Carter?".
"Our secret weapon. On the outside, a pretty Virginia girl, loyal to
the South. But she's Roger's girlfriend, and our spy. She gets us
information we could never have gotten otherwise."
“I know you’re there,” Madame Xanadu said, seemingly to nothing. “I can see you, even if no one else can.”
“My dear Madame Xanadu, how delightful to see you again,” the Gentleman Ghost said, his spectral form becoming a shade more visible.
“I am surprised to see you somewhere taking responsibility. In life you were always a reprobate.”
“Madame, you wound me. Or you would, if I were capable of being wounded. I hope perhaps to do some good here, atone for my mortal crimes and perhaps be allowed to pass on to my rest.”
“Why Craddock, that is the response of a decent man. I do not think you are the same ghost.”
“I don’t mind saying, Miss Gordon, I find that woman disturbing, standing there, talking to the air,” General Lee observed.
“I know, General. I don’t hold with the occult myself, but we have several officers who come from New Orleans and their wives frequented her fortune telling shop. They claim her predictions were uncannily accurate, unlike most of the charlatans along those streets. And what she has been able to foretell for us has been immensely useful.”
“Use any tool that comes to hand. One of the rules of war, I know,” Lee nodded. “I also don’t much like the idea of you, a woman and a cripple, begging your pardon, being here on the battlefield either. “ He lowered his voice, looking around to make sure that no one was close enough to overhear his next sentence. “Especially given your value to the war effort in your role as Oracle.”
“Many of my best agents are here. Thanks to this remarkable invention that Mr. Hunter has provided,” she tapped on a small curved piece of the new “plastic” that hooked over one ear and ran the side of her cheek to the corner of her mouth, “I can coordinate my agents in a way I never could from my headquarters in Gotham. But its range is limited. You know Mademoiselle Marie?”
“We have met,” Lee tipped his hat to the Frenchwoman. “That’s another thing I am not comfortable with. Women as soldiers.”
“Monsieur Hunter assures me it is commonplace where he comes from,” Marie said.
“And here is an agent that I do not believe you have met before. General Lee, may I introduce Christopher Chance?”
The man in the gray uniform turned to face them. “Good lord!” Lee gasped, his mouth gaping. “Why, why he is...me.”
“Mr. Chance is a master of impersonation.”
“You’re altogether too valuable to the Confederacy to risk you being captured or killed. I am here to draw the Yankees’ fire instead of you.”
“But you will likely be killed in my stead.”
“I’m just one man. You’re our best hope for victory in this war. It would be my privilege to die so that you may live. But rest assured, if I can keep myself alive, I have every intention of doing so.”
“Dinah, are you and Oliver in position?” Barbara asked.
“We are,” the woman code named Black Canary confirmed through her own headset. Hers had been a life more unlikely than any novels. A singer in a music hall, she had caught the attention of one Mr. Oliver Queen of the Atlanta Queens, one of the richest families in that great city. He had been in the audience the night her high note had shattered the globes of the theatre’s gas lamps. He was so impressed, he began to woo her with expensive gifts and roguish charm. Then to his own surprise he actually fell in love with his latest conquest and married her, despite his father’s objections. While he had tolerated some of his son’s quirks, like the Indian friend who taught him to shoot the bow and arrow, this wedding to such a low woman was too much, and he disowned his son. So he and Dinah started a new life for themselves on the frontier, and a family. “I worry about the boys, Ollie.”
“They’re not boys anymore. They’re men,” Oliver said. “And they’ve got their own battles to fight. But don’t worry about them. I trained them well with the bow. They’ll be fine. And little Mia here,” he ruffled the hair of their youngest a girl of about fifteen who carried a bow of her own. “Too bad they couldn’t inherit your own little talent.”
“Sorry. I don’t even know how I do it myself, really.”
“Agent Palmer, come in,” Barbara said.
“I’m in position. Under McClellan’s cot.”
Lee raised his eyebrow at that. “Are you familiar with the new atomic theory?” Oracle asked him.
“Vaguely.”
“They don’t call Agent Palmer the Atom for nothing. The radiation from a meteorite from space shrunk him. He really is small enough to hide in a matchbox. He’s my most useful agent.”
“You! I know you!” A cry split the air. “I seen your poster! You’re Mr. Miracle! That famous escaping guy.” A young man, still a boy really, with unusually green skin, ran to where a caped man was talking quietly with a hulking, strangely dressed man with numerous scars covering his body.
“It’s true,” the showman said with a bow. “Mr. Hunter thought my talents might be useful here. I’m not sure how, but I came nevertheless.”
“And you’re that Frankenstein guy the other men are talking about. Is it true you’re all the way from Europe? Is it true that you were really dead and a doctor brought you back to life. I was dead once myself. Well, almost. Bit by a snake. Poison. We were out in the territories. There warn’t no doctors anywhere near round, but my folks, they took me to an Injun medical man that was close what they knew. And he used his special magic to save my life. An’ the amazing thing is the magic he used, it tied me somehow to the animals, so if’n I have to I kin turn into one. Ain’t that incredible? What about you? Kin you do anything special?”
“You ask too many questions, boy. It can get you into trouble,” Frankenstein dismissed him.
“Ladies. Gentlemen!” Rip Hunter’s voice carried over the field. “Prepare yourselves. Kang is ready to make his move. We have to stop him.”
I get the sense we're going to be doing more writing than playing in this game. Ran out of time to do more than position my guys. I'll take first turn in the morning, promise.

Okay. Leadership. It's going to be tricky to remember to use this, since most of the games we do we don't need it, but since this is a "normal" 800 point (or so) game, I'd say limit to 8 actions per turn, plus Leadership, free moves, etc. I get a 3, so no benefits this turn.
Once more, regular Leadership is
Quote
At the beginning of your turn, give this character a free action and roll a d6. On a result of 5–6, add one action to your action total for that turn and this character may remove an action token from an adjacent friendly character with a lower point value.
Since again, we don't use it really, just to be sure you're aware of the changes to it. With the Generals, they may remove a token regardless of adjacency and point value. Dou you want to limit it to say with 10 squares? With Lee and Grant they succeed on a 4-6.
