I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
Thought about using the Rickie Lee Jones original for the Lowell George version but could only find live versions.

Wow, Nick Cave. It’s been forever since I heard this song too. Damn, now I have to choose between Nick and King Crimson. This song is so deep and heartfelt. He sings this song from so deep inside him that he actually brings you along for the ride in such a personal way. Love this.
King Crimson - And then we get to these guys (listening order, not ranking) and holy ####, they give me goose bumps at the start and then make me all fuzzy like a peach that became a snake and was slithering…whups, acid flashback. Great song.
Lowell George is so bluesy and swampy. Too bad he went up against even bigger heavyweights than himself here.
Bruce usually does a great job of singing with heart, and he does well here. It’s the arrangement I’m not too fond of.
I’m not a fan at all of most country, but I dig the guitar and fiddle work in the Brad paisley song, plus he gives the song a really competent melody and a decent hook. Nothing wrong with this at all.
Ahhhh Lonesome Dave and pals, so much of your music was based on funky rhythms mixed with Rock and Roll power chords. Sorry guys, but this song (for me anyway) is an obvious fail – although the guitar solo was nicely done.
Billy Joel starts out all souful and has those horns blaring sonically and then he opens his mouth. He also loses it when he goes to the chorus and gets away from the soul
ELOMG. Faux Rockabilly and I don’t like it at all. Look, Jeff Lynne, just because you had a hit with Chuck Berry’s Roll Over Beethoven, doesn’t give you the right to keep on trying to make music with 50s and 60s era stylings. In fact, they slid all the way down to the bottom and landed in last place for me.
I'm glad you went with the Lowell George version. Not enough exposure for someone so gifted.
I'm not sure Rickie Lee Jones couldn't use the exposure as well.
Changed the King Crimson link to one that gave you the whole song as it first appeared.

1 - King Crimson - this was on the first King Crimson album I ever owned. Huge fan of Robert Fripp.
2. Nick Cave - haunting song about a taboo subject.
3. Bruce Springsteen - never really been a huge Springsteen fan but this one really resonated.
4. Foghat - They're not at their best here but still pretty good.
5. Lowell George - hadn't heard this one before. Wish Lowell was still with us.
6. Brad Paisley - I'm more of an outlaw country guy but wasn't bad and perfect for a honky tonk night.
7. Billy Joel - Like this mostly because of the Rodney Dangerfield movie.
8. ELO - Normally I would take ELO over Billy Joel 90 times to ten but not this time.

I'm in the process of listening/assessing, but it's becoming weird in a way I'll explain when I give my list of personal rankings.
That said, the weird thing for me was finding that I wanted to rank them pretty much in keeping with the order of presentation.
Well, uh, that is, for the first two, anyway. So here goes...
1. Billy Joel (sorry)
2. Bruce Springsteen
3. Lowell George
4. ELO (no apologies for this one; don't get the disdain)
5. Brad Paisley
6. Nick Cave
7. Foghat
8. King Crimson -- Hopefully, we can all still be pals. Never, EVER cared for Fripp & Co. and after it came to my attention that a record of their Nov. 1969 concert(s) at the Fillmore East was in circulation, I had to confess that I'd been there but wanted to take my leave as I'd gone only because of Joe Cocker and the original Fleetwood Mac. But hey, that's just me.
But again...glad to see this thread back!
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
I'm trying to remember who else likes to do these. I contacted a few of you. I didn;t think it would be necessary to alert DTM or Hail Eris as they always look at the Arena. Drunky is awol as usual.

Electric Light Orchestra (Jeff Lynne can do no wrong...at least...he never has yet.)
Billy Joel
Bruce Springsteen
Foghat
Brad Paisley
King Crimson (I'm a fan, but wasn't feeling it with this song.)
Lowell George
Nick Cave
Of all the songs listed here, only the top 3 are songs I'd be interested in hearing again and I already have digi copies of ELO & Billy Joel.
May all your hits be crits!

Sssssh! No active recruiting --- you'll ruin the idea that you're attracting a cult following based strictly on word getting around from within the flock!
