Round 1 - Battle 3 (Battle Report)

The first 100 Heroclix pieces made that are 100pts each are going to battle it out to see which one stands alone. In Round 1, each battle features 20 pieces fighting to survive to make it to the finals!

20 are gathered inside a strange small area surrounded by an inescapable wall of energy. What happens next is best told by those who watch...


Uatu: Uatu and Bob, the Monitor, back with you again for this third battle of various heroes and villains and ghosts and starships and...

Bob, the Monitor: It's weird. But we're here to tell you all about it, folks.

U: Indeed we are, Bob. And it looks like... yes, Sue Storm is bent over coughing up... I think I see blood. My word!

B: Unsettling start as the Mouth of Sauron hurts Susie, but he's not doing anything else just yet.

U: A risk, but perhaps a well founded one as he is formidable out there. Speaking of risks, the crew of the USS Bellerophon fire and hit the Superman Robot, possibly mistaking him for a Borg and really overreacting... and they're not done, they also do something to Namor.

B: Looks like he won't be rushing any other fighter out here this time. And in fact, Namor looks content to just wait for the time being.

U: Some very strategic choices being made.

B: Not by Gladiator though!

U: Too right. He is just a punching machine out there, clobbering that Nazgul.

B: Superman Robot finally comes to "life"--

U: People can't see you make quotes with your fingers, Bob.

B: The people know, man. They get it. Anyway... Superbot turns away from the starship and instead lands a punch on Mr. Fantastic before he's had a chance to figure out what's going on.

U: He just stands there watching as Sue Storm now gets distracted as Anthony Stark draws her attention to Namor and while she's turned around blasts her with repulsors. Sue cannot get away from these guys and is already looking like she's in real trouble.

B: Heh. Looks like Dr. Psycho tried to kick Baron Zemo in the shin, but Zemo just holds him back, palm on the little guy's head and then sends a knee right into Dr. Psycho's nose. He looks pissed, but it's not clear what he can do about it...

U: In fact, a lot of the fighters seem to be confounded by a strange haze. I can't figure out what's going on from here.

B: That's where I come in, partner. It can only be one thing: Fate.

U: Wh--Oh, I see what you mean. Dr. Fate does seem to have a spell cast across nearly all of the field and very few of the fighters are able to get things done. In the meantime, Sinestro makes a move on the Nazgul, but fails to land his strike, while Dr. Fate himself can't quite figure out the Super Skrull, and so he chooses to blast the Servant of Sauron instead.

B: Wait... is that big fiery eye watching... us?

U: Calm down, Bob. It's just a book. And a movie. And a lot of merchandising.

B: It's not coming to get us?

U: We see everything. We'd know.

B: Yeah... you're right. Okay... oh hey, The Joker looks to have made a move for the corner and has left the Super Skrull a lot less shifty. I guess even a skrull can be weirded out by a guy like The Joker.

U: Sue Storm, again doubled-over can't do anything but hope that someone chooses to save her...

B: I'm not betting on it. This battle is fierce. Even while a few fighters take a minute to recoup, we see Gladiator finish what he started, KO'ing the Nazgul with ruthless efficiency.

U: Not wanting to be taken lightly, Baron Zemo shows his own bloodlust as he finishes off Dr. Psycho for his own KO.

B: It looks meaner when it's being done to a little person.

U: Really does. Sue Storm is holding on, her shields get up in time to stop a powerful blast from the Silver Surfer, but does she have anything left? Bob, I think I missed something... what was that sound?

B: Three little words for you Uatu: It's Clobberin' Time! Benjamin J. Grimm is in the game, grabbing a motorcycle from somewhere and SMASHING it into Dmitri Pushkin and his armor is just falling off the poor guy's body.

U: And... yes, there it is, Sue Storm collapses, KO'd by the Mouth of Sauron, who then moves off to take on Dr. Fate, who moments ago just ran across the field trying to avoid Super Skrull's heat...

B: Things are not looking good for the good Doctor. And elsewhere I see the USS Belladecipticon -- man, I hope someone takes out that ship, so I can stop saying it -- has picked a corner to wait and regroup. Their tech seems to have befuddled Dr. Fate as well, and he's looking a little more vulnerable to any who are willing to risk the feedback.

U: Not seeing any takers... but I do see Abra Kadabra landing a hit on Ben Grimm.

B: I think the guy should have run, but looking around, maybe he felt like he just had to try and tangle with Mr. Grimm. Definitely has his attention, now.

U: Superman Robot lands another hit on Mr. Fantastic who is still being vexed by Dr. Fate's aura. And nearby, Anthony Stark appraises the Rocket Red in disrepair and locks on to KO Dmitri Pushkin before turning his attention back to Mr. Fantastic to make sure he doesn't meddle with his metal.

B: Hey, nice one!

U: Thank you. With nothing else, Mr. Fantastic just punches the Superman Robot and does manage to do a little damage, but he's definitely looking weak out there.

B: Mouth of Sauron back at it again! Dr. Fate is coughing under that helmet. Looks like the Doc could use the Heimlich! Ha!

U: Gladiator is back on the hunt now and he's chosen to fly right into the faces of the Superman Robot and Mr. Fantastic... but before he gets to act on his new position Silver Surfer blasts Mr. Fantastic off the field for his first KO.

B: Looks like Dr. Fate is on the move again trying to avoid more poisons... and there's Ben Grimm with a big hit on Abra Kadabra who wastes no time and runs off. Grimm is landing big hits, but is not scoring the KO's.

U: The Mouth of Sauron looks a little tied up now with the USS Bellerophon, but manages to dodge a blast from the vessel.

B: Gladiator right back at it. This time Superman Robot goes down to the Annihilator. And Anthony Stark follows up with his own second KO dispelling Abra Kadabra's tricks with a powerful repulsor blast.

U: Sinestro has been swinging at air so far, but finally connects with a hit on the USS Bellerophon, which seems to have unleashed the Teplan Blight into the nearby area of the ship.

B: Anthony Stark isn't flying so high now after a blast from Silver Surfer, and if that wasn't enough here comes Ben Grimm slamming a car door against the iron shell around Stark... and then, just to keep pouring it on, Dr. Fate sends a magical blast ripping through Anthony... that suit is about to go critical.

U: The Mouth of Sauron again pursues Dr. Fate and this time the Bellerophon is right behind and looking to hurt both.

B: Gladiator does it again, this time KO'ing Anthony Stark with a blast. And it looks like Namor is interested in getting involved, but can't land a hit as the Mouth runs off, and he's just standing there as Zemo lands a hit from the bushes.

U: Dr. Fate again has to exert himself to flee a life-threatening situation, this time heading for the corner. And I see Silver Surfer just looking for a better shot at the field when--

B: Let me say it! Ben Grimm with a dumpster just smashes the Surfer! Grimm still is without a KO, but has been wrecking every character he runs into.

U: Softening up targets for others it seems. Elsewhere, Joker continues to keep Sinestro from doing too much, while dodging random blasts from Super Skrull who is hiding nearby.

B: The Beller-- Ballerinaphone looks to have inflicted some damage on the Mouth of Sauron. They increase all their remaining power to their shields hoping to avoid any retaliation.

U: And Gladiator AGAIN. This time he KO's what's left standing of the Silver Surfer.

B: Looks like that was the last straw and Benjamin J. Grimm with a manhole cover just drives it into Gladiator whose confidence is clearly shaken by that hit!

U: Namor flies up to deliver a delayed repayment to Baron Zemo, but Zemo hits right back--

B: And then gets hit again, this time from Sinestro! Zemo looks wobbly out there.

U: The Mouth of Sauron makes a break from the starship and heads to an open corner while that ship decides to try its luck against Sinestro and Zemo.

B: Zemo can see it comin' so he decides to go for broke. He stabs Namor, but just has no strength left to really hurt the Atlantean... and Zemo succumbs to his own bloodlust, KO'ing himself!

U: Namor is just standing there now and The Joker nails a shot from across the field and that sets up Super Skrull to finish him off.

B: I really wanted a reason to shout Imperius Rex.

U: Sorry, buddy. No luck for either of you. And with his falling we've got less than half of the field left standing.

B: Mouth of Sauron messes with Ben Grimm, we'll see if that turns out to be a good idea.

U: Sinestro is forced to deal with the blight of the Bellerophon and coughs a little before bringing his ring to bear and KO'ing the USS Bellerophon with an emerald blast.

B: Bah... looks like it worked and Ben Grimm takes a swing, but misses the Mouth. Mouth doesn't stick around to press its luck...instead looking to keep the pressure on Fate.

U: Sinestro is lighting up, and this time catches everyone by surprise with a massive blast of green...and maybe some yellow... and Gladiator is KO'd!

B: He racked up a lot of KO's this match, so I think we might see him again...

U: Dr. Fate has to run for it AGAIN...

B: He's done more damage to himself than anyone out there... but he seems to know how to survive.

U: Benjamin J. Grimm finds an old VCR and grabs it on his way to the Mouth.

B: Looks like he's scared, too, as he runs... OH! Sinestro hits the Mouth so hard he must have broken the Jaw of Sauron! And that hit knocked him right over to Ben Grimm, who is only too happy to score his first KO by pounding the remaining life from the Mouth.

U: There are only six fighters left and all this time, like a shadow on the field, everyone has just ignored the Servant of Sauron. Everyone except Super Skrull it turns out, as they two have been trading misses for a while now... until finally Super Skrull lands a hit.

B: And those two get back to whiffing at each other... it's actually kinda sad...

U: And did you see that?

B: Did I?! Ben Grimm runs right at Sinestro and pops the GL solid! And even The Joker lands a shot right after! Sinestro trips up trying to get away and Ben just pulls him back down to the ground with so much force that Sinestro is KO'd by Mr. Grimm.

U: We've got our final five: Servant of Sauron, Dr. Fate, Benjamin J. Grimm, The Joker, and Super Skrull. I cannot imagine a more diverse group as it comes down to it.

B: This is crazy. They're all takin' shots and trying to hit each other and either people duck or Skrull-out...who is gonna land a hit?

U: He tried and missed on The Joker, but it looks like Ben Grimm was finally able to land a hit, this time on Super Skrull. The Joker is quick to follow up and score a hit of his own... and that sets up Dr. Fate! He goes for a hit and KO's the Super Skrull.

B: Two words, UatU: KA-BOOM! Ben Grimm delivers a HUGE hit to Servant of Sauron and now all eyes turn to him! It's like a bunch of zombies caught sight of a live person!

U: Well, it's like The Joker did anyways, as he llines up and KO's the Servant of Sauron and then leaves Ben lacking a little get up and go.

B: Ben makes a move, leaving The Joker unnable to confuse him. Joker seems to be eyeing Dr. Fate for a final hit... and then Ben Grimm runs out and clobbers The Joker!

U: Dr. Fate actually follows up and the Joker looks to be... oh my god...

B: *blorch!*

U: I can't describe it, folks, but The Joker KO'd Dr. Fate... it was pretty gruesome.

B: That's not supposed to be outside... *blorch!*

And remember that those pieces that scored several KO's can make it in through their display of brute force, as the top 5 KO-getters will move on to the finals, too!

I haven't been paticipating in the contest but these have quickly become the most entertaining submissions I've seen here in a while. Kudos and keep up the good work.
