So here's the power:

How I interpret this is a matter of timing I suppose

1. X shoots Fury for 3 penetrating (top click) so that he lands on Absorb Energy (click 4).
2. After the damage is dealt, Fury heals one because he has Absorb Energy (click 3).
3. X pushes to shoot Fury the next turn, deals another 3 penetrating and Fury is now on Impervious (click 6).

Thats all fine. However, I have a friend who claims that if during Step 3 Fury gets shot by X while Absorb Energy is showing, he simply heals one (click 2).

So who is right then?

The action doesn't resolve until after damage is taken, so I really have no idea how he would come to such a conclusion.

And with PUlse wave based on Fury's Wording he'd have his crap ignored when Pulse Waved...then bam action resolves took damage from a ranged combat attack so he heals one?

Or is it ignored THROUGH AND THROUGH?

Nothing happens with that power until after, so it should work.
