This is a suicide squad team based on Atom Smasher's squad. I'm kind of digging it, but it suffers an unfortunate lack of support powers. I'm a little concerned about damage reducers.
(This is for a Golden Age game, btw)
Giants 001 Atom Smasher 97
JL (2007) 026 Captain Boomerang 78
JL (2007) 032 Bronze Tiger 60
Leg 069 Persuader 129
AA 024 Count Vertigo 74
AA 026 Nightshade 50
Total: 488
I think it's not a bad mix. For team abilities, I've got 2 wildcards, 2 Suicide Squad, 1 JSA, and 1 Mystics, which is especially useful on Persuaders long damage-reducing dial. 3 carriers and 3 figures to be carried. It's a named theme team, which is nice.
I considered throwing on two Multiplexes to replace either Bronze Tiger or Nightshade, but I like what those two bring to the team. Also considering League of Assassins ATA for Bronze Tiger.
I feel like I'm unfortunately reliant on Persuader's big EW hit, because after that, I'm going to have a hard time plowing through a lot of damage reducers.
So I ended up switching in Deadshot for Captain Boomerang, and that was a good move. Thanks for the tip.
My final team looked like:
Giants 001 Atom Smasher 97
JL (2007) 032 Bronze Tiger 60
Leg 069 Persuader 129
AA 024 Count Vertigo 74
AA 026 Nightshade 50
75An 005 Deadshot 89
Total: 499
I also played the Meteorite.
I was pretty happy with the team overall. I went 3-1 for the tournament against some pretty competitive teams. The tournament was 500 points Golden Age with at least one giant figure on your team, no colossals.
Round 1: I played against a team of
GSX Phoenix
Genis Vell on his 48 point starting line
Ace (for the giant)
Ruling Caste Dominator
Kong bystander token.
We played on the helicarrier map where there is the orange "falling off" sqaures on either side.
I got up on 4 squares of elevated with most of my team so Deadshot couldn't be attacked up close. Phoenix couldn't hit Count Vertigo, and I was able to take out Ace with Deadshot. Phoenix tried for the Scorpio Key and failed. Once Phoenix had two tokens, I swarmed, and in one turn Deadshot, Persuader, and Atom Smasher KO'd her and then KO'd her again when she came back. After that, it was pretty much cleanup.
Round 2:
Hulk 2099 (the giant)
Noh Varr (with full Infinity Gauntlet)
Sun Boy
Kid Zoom
We played on the Nowhere Map.
I moved up to the middle of the map, and set up in the meeting room in the center. He pinged Deadshot for one with Kid Zoom, and then parked Hulk 2099 right in the middle of all my figures. I swung and missed that 19 defense several times, but thanks to my theme PCs Hulk wasn't able to hurt my guys either. Bronze Tiger got 2 on Sun Boy and put him on poison, but then Noh Varr rolled a critical hit to one-shot Nightshade. I figured I was in trouble. Then Count Vertigo got a lucky roll and incapped Hulk off his 19, and Persuader was able to knock him past Imperv, and Deadshot finished him off. Then Atom Smasher was able to charge Noh Varr for 5, putting him on his last legs, and I was able to take out Noh Varr and Sun Boy pretty easily at that point. Bronze Tiger had been KO'd, and Kid Zoom was able to take out Deadshot. I chased Kid Zoom around the map for 10 turns or so, as he kept making Super Senses rolls. He did some damage, but I finally put him down.
Round 3:
Sentry/Void (with full Infinity Gauntlet, inside information, armor piercing, damage shield, monster hunter, and some other feats)
Sharon Carter (the one that gives stealth to Avengers)
Mockingbird
Infinity Challenge E Wasp with Pym Particles (to meet the Giant figure requirement).
I'll be honest, this was not a fun match. In the first two turns, S/V hurt Atom Smasher and killed Persuader, only taking two Mystics damage. His fodder was able to tie me up on approach, and though I KO'd Wasp and Mockingbird, there was never really a contest here. I just couldn't get close to S/V, and his perma-stealth meant Deadshot could do nothing. He ended up winning the tournament.
Round 4:
Imperiex (with full Infinity Gauntlet, Shellhead, Sidekick, and some other feat)
Scarlet Witch (you know the one)
John Constantine (with Sidekick)
I picked the Asylum map.
This was a tough game. I ran up one side of the map away from the drills, and he went the other way to spin the gauntlet. I was able to reposition, and then I had Atom Smasher carry Persuader into a cell close enough to charge Imperiex but where he had no LoS. He then had Imperiex phase into the cell next to me, relying on that 19, and Scarlet Witch carry Constantine in. He put Constantine in the corner between SW and Imperiex, meaning he didn't have LoS to my figures. Persuader charges and EW on Imperiex for 4, hitting that 19, and then Bronze Tiger comes adjacent and the rest of my team advances. He decides discretion is the better part of valor, and pushes both Imperiex (who doesn't take pushing) and Scarlet Witch to carry his team out of there. Count Vertigo carries Deadshot to clear terrain with Line of Fire to Imperiex, Atom Smasher carries Persuader in range, and Bronze Tiger uses willpower to get off of a drill and approach. Next turn he has to clear, and then I push Nightshade to lay a smoke cloud under Deadshot, Scarlet Witch, and Constantine. Deadshot now has hindering so he can activate Time to Set Up the Shot, and deals another 4 to Imperiex. I'm unable to hit Scarlet Witch. Next turn, Imperiex retreats to another cell and Scarlet Witch evacs Constantine. Imperiex rolls and is now on Ultimate Godhood (great). He chooses hypersonic and uses the soul gem to tap Deadshot and get a click back. He now has two tokens, so Shellhead is activated. I use Nightshade to put a smoke cloud under him since he only has toughness, forcing him to choose Impervious as his gauntlet power to avoid Nightshade's damage. He clears, and next turn Persuader charges in for another 4 EW damage, cutting through Impervious and KOing the Ultimate Godhood Imperiex. After that, the rest of my team mopped up Scarlet Witch and Constantine.
So, 3-1 is not bad with a named theme team and no gauntlet, HSS, outwit, or perplex. Suicide Squad is a cool little Golden Age team. Most of the pieces are a lot of fun to play. And Atom Smasher is not bad at all. Although his middial is a little rough, he just won't drop dead.

I know how this feel. I went against a solo S/V with my 2 Deadshots and Manchester Black on a 300pt game. My Suicide Squad couldn't touch him. I only manage to hurt him when he activated one of my Deadshot's ATA Secret Six. But I did had fun with the game as my opponent and I were both on our jolly mood.
