Here we are with a fresh game courtesy of myself and Gargantua.
We've taken the DC and Marvel universes and plopped them in the United States during the Civil War.
Our focus here, as much as to play the game itself, is to see how that world might look with the emergence of superpowers overlapping it. We both plan vivid story posts to get a feel for the time and the characters we choose. How does Oliver Queen work in this era? Hank Pym?
We also will include Generals and perhaps Presidents (in the last game). Generals can be captured and thus ending a battle. Generals can use leadership but with a twist: with a roll of 5 or 6 we can add an action and also remove an action token from any figure on board.
A few more things. We each get a character who appears in each game, our time traveler. Even if he's koed in game 1, he still appears in full health in game 2. Kang will progress in the game (moving from Supernova Rookie to Chaos War Kang to Kang and Dr. Doom).
Each battle will consist of 800-850 in points as we predrafted 2500.
I got Marvel and my final characters are:
General Ulysses S Grant
Kang & Doom

Professor X GXFF

Jean Grey R

The crowd cheers. Children cry. They hate to see the circus end.
The man known who calls himself the Human Torch takes one last sword in his hand. "Flame on!" he says, the crowd saying it with him. And the sword is enflamed, he slowly plunges it into his throat. He pulls it out safely and regurgitates a circle of flame. He bows and thus ends a night many will never forget. The Human Torch among them.
He walks backstage. "Johnny Storm!" the voice says.
"No autographs, not today..." he says, "Well maybe...".
Nathaniel Richards stands with a man shrouded in a cloak. "I do not seek your autograph...only your joining us."
"Sorry," he says walking off stage, "You'll have to talk with the boss."
"Reed..." Johnny says.
The shrouded man snarls, "Richards."
"You're looking for the leader o' this circus," Ben Grimm (also in a cloak) says patting his pal on his back, "Then this is the fella. Sir, I like your outfit."
The shrouded man sneers.
"How may I be of help?" Reed Richards asks.
"Your nation and leader call out for you, Mr. Richards. In fact we are here to collect you, Mr. Grimm, Mr. Storm and your wife."
"My wife?" he asks.
"Do you not think being an invisible warrior is a boon in this war?" the shrouded man asks.
"Richards is going nowhere. None of them are," the Ringmaster intercedes, "The Fantastic Family have a contract with me."
"War supercedes any contract. So says Abraham Lincoln," Nathaniel says, "Still, I'm sure we can be sure you are properly compensated."
The shrouded man hands over gold pieces. "There will be more. Once we're done."
"Then I'm coming to. To be sure of it."
"I wouldn't dream otherwise," Richards says looking to the man he knows as Victor Von Doom. It makes him ill at ease to side with his great foe, Reed Richards.
“That’s me,” Clark Kent answered, looking up from his conversation with a man who was wearing a mask that covered half his face.
“General Lee’s wanting to see you.”
“The general wants to see me? But why?”
“Think a minute, Clark,” his friend Harvey Dent said. “People have seen you do some pretty amazing things. Word gets around.”
“So I’m strong. You’re the amazing one, with your ability to talk people around to your way of thinking. If we’d left it to you, you’d have talked the South into abolition on your own in a couple years.”
“Oh? Tell that to the lynch mob that did this to me,” Harvey said, lifting his mask to reveal a horribly burned visage. “Some days I’m sorry you saved me that day. I might have been better off dead.”
“Don’t say that, Harv. That’s not so! I need you. This country needs you. Your appearance doesn’t change the fact that you’re a brilliant lawyer. You could be president come day.”
“HA!” Dent laughed. “No way anyone will vote for a freak like me. Now go see what the general wants. Lowly soldiers like us can’t keep generals waiting.”
Clark walked over towards Lee’s tent, distracted, lost in thought. The sound of a gunshot snapped him out of his reverie. “Look out, idiot!”
Clark reacted than humanly possible and caught the speeding bullet at it flew towards his heart.
“Are you all right?” Lee Travis asked, his signature red coat flapping behind him as he ran to check on the other man. “You have to watch where you’re going, you could have been killed!”
“Idiot walks into a shooting range, he deserves it,” Floyd Lawton said, starting to clean his gun. The sniper that men called Deadshot for his accuracy was not known for his compassion.
“Leave the boy alone, Lawton,” Jim Rook said. While the other two had been shooting, Rook was sparring with imaginary enemies, but with an old style broadsword rather than the usual army issue saber.
“Sorry,” Clark apologized and continued on to the tent where a sentry showed him in. “You wished to see me sir?”
“Indeed I did, Kent. Mr. Hunter here tells me that you’re capable of some pretty impressive feats.”
“We all have our strengths, sir, and contribute to the war effort however we can,” Clark said humbly.
“If what we’ve heard is true, you’re wasted as a common soldier,” a regal blond man in what looked to be orange-gold armor said.
“Please, your majesty,” a bald man interrupted him, and though he used the proper form of address the underlying respect that usually accompanied such seemed to be lacking. “If we are going to win this war, we need brains, nor brawn.” For all his emphasis on brains though, he was flanked by two very brawny women and a hulking white-skinned man stood behind him.
“Mr. Luthor, you will treat King Arthur with the respect he deserves,” General Lee scolded him.
“King Arthur? You mean like in the stories of the Round Table?” Clark blurted out before he could remember his place.
“No. I am king of Atlantis, and I’m tired of the Northerners dumping the waste products of their factories into the rivers and into my ocean. So I am here to help you stop them.”
Lee finished the introductions and invited Clark and the others to sit down.
“Excuse me, General, but you didn’t introduce the lady there,” Clark pointed.
“You...you can see her?” Lee said in genuine surprise. “Miss Knight is from military intelligence. To everyone else, she is invisible. If you can see her, then you may be as remarkable a youth as I’ve heard.”

"The Professor will see you both now," Jean Grey says showing Nathaniel Richards and Victor Von Doom to his office. Jean stays and looks puzzled.
"There's something mysterious about them, sir," she telepathically alerts him, "I can't mind probe them."
"Nor can I Jean but it's fine," he replies.
"How many I help you, gentlemen?".
"We're here on the Presidents business," Richards says offering Lincoln's letter to Xavier.
"Gentleman, this is a mental institution. Many of our men are war victims themselves."
"Like the Pennsylvania farmer who calls himself the Green Goblin. Or that reputed man with claws," Richards says.
"I have little patience for the nuances here, Kang, why do you not speak plainly?" Doom says.
"At ease, Victor."
Xavier looks puzzled. "Yes well, those men are...troubled....they could be of no use to our President."
"I think we could be the judge of that."
"I'm sorry," Xavier says, "They are in my care."
A blind man and Russian woman walk in. "Professor, are you all right?".
"Yes, Matthew...fine."
"Ah, Mr. Murdock....and his Russian bride. Excellent," Richards says, "It's interesting that I found you here."
"I'm not sure what that means but we're assistants to the Professor."
"A blind man assisting in a mental facility? Curious."
"I assure you I am more than a 'blind' man."
"Yes...I am aware of that. Tell me...how many slaves have helped escape into Canada?" Kang asks.
"You see, I know the real functions of this place. A sanitarium; yes but Xavier you have a secret society of people with 'special abilities' that you train. You also let Murdock link your property to the Underground railroad to Canada."
Silence.
"Let me be plain. Here are a list of people in your Sanitarium who will aid me for our President. It includes members of your staff, hidden slaves and patients. And we're leaving now."
"Rip, I understand we have to stop Richards," Booster Gold said, "but Per Degaton? Isn't he as bad as the guy we're trying to stop?"
"Normally yes, but right now, there is no threat bigger than what Richards is trying to do. Per Degaton understands that. He may have his own, more nefarious reasons for wanting to stop Richards, but for this battle he will help us."
"You're the boss, but I really hope you know what you're doing," Booster said.

"I ain't gonna be no one's slave again," Luke Cage says moving forth.
"I was a Prince in my lands, Luke, you know my feelings on this," T'Challa says.
"It's funny, Ben, but I feel like I know those men," Susan Storm says as she and Ben Grimm move in.
"It's doubtful kid, slaves don't often make it to our circus sideshow, after all," he says, "Now stay invisible. You don't want them to find us."
"No," she says but her mind is clearly elsewhere. She knows those two slave men from somewhere. And she can't help but feel that they were, in some way, friends.
Black Widiow needs to be fixed. I think she's supposed to be in H9, though you said H8 for her in the post, you also said H8 for Sue, and someone's in H9 on the map
Lee-dership: 4
Incidentally, I need to choose a target for Jonah's wanted poster. May as well go the Kang/Doom route.
You don't leave me much, and certainly nothing worth pushing over.
Grant rolls for leadership: 6. Now there's a leader.
I had a perfect turn offing Booster. Until I realized Booster was not in a position to be reached. Grrrr.
Bullseye to F14 dual targeting Jonah & Aquaman. Rolls 10. Good start, 2 to Jonah.
Panther to G4, he'll outwit Mercy's charge.
Wolvie to G9.
Destiny to D10.
Remember Xavier's shape change bonus and Sue's defend.
Jean gets the free action from Grant and tosses Storm to I11.
Storm on Jonah. Needs 5, rolls 5. He's out.

Grant lights up a set of firecrackers. "This is what we call an old-fashioned distraction. I hope you all can work from this."
"Easily," notes the former slave girl, Ororo. "In my country, I am a Goddess. I make the rain grow our crops and the sun love our people. I can just as easily make ice fall on my enemies." With that she bombards Jonah Hex with an ice storm.
She turns to General Grant. "So General, am I unlike any slave you're ever known?".
"M'am," he replies, "You're unlike any person I've ever known. Period."
