Bollocks, I say. Vertigo used to mean cutting-edge and gritty. Guess it's time for the Disney take-over now. While I have not read JL Dark, it stinks that now John Constantine is a joiner. The only team that he should belong to (occasionally) is the Trench Coat Brigade. I am not digging on the sanitizing of what remains of Vertigo. Bleh.

Hellblazer was certainly the final holdout of the old classic Vertigo line. Things have been different for a while now, but Hellblazer was always there to remind of those halcyon days.
This is the end of an era.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
I don't really have a problem with stories ending, but unfortunately this probably means Constantine's story won't get an ending. If he's being annexed into the DC universe it probably just means that he's going to get caught up in the endless cycle of retcons and not move forward. Is the current Hellblazer DC canon? I guess if it isn't there's still an opportunity for a satisfying ending.

This is unfortunate. I expect the Vertigo imprint to fold shortly after that.
It really needs a re-launch of its own to compete with what Image is doing these days.
There's clearly a market for mature and interesting stories, but DC has lost its ability to really grab those readers. Their best books simply aren't groundbreaking anymore.
I certainly hope they figure out some path to making graphic literature. They were the standard bearer.

This reminds me of when they brought the Milestone characters into the mainstream DC universe. I thought it was cool at first to see Icon and the Shadow Cabinet in Justice League of America, but once Milestone Forever revealed how they ended up in the DC universe (which involved desecrating Rift's corpse to rewrite everyone's histories), I was kind of bummed. It seemed a shame that they created all those cool epilogue stories for the main characters if they were just going to erase them at the end of the book.
I believe that there are essentially two different John Constantines being published these days.
1. Hellblazer continues with the John Constantine that had been defined by that comic. The current writer was insistent that he actually be aged appropriately, so the Constantine of Hellblazer is probably in his late 50s or maybe early 60s.
2. John Constantine in the New 52 is a spin on the version of the character that Alan Moore created in Swamp Thing, a character who was intended to be part and parcel of the greater DC Universe. This John Constantine is supposed to be the general age of heroes in most serial fiction, indeterminate but around 30 or so.
What happens in Justice League Dark has no impact on what happens in Hellblazer and vice versa. They are two different Constantines. When Hellblazer is cancelled, that Constantine's story will be ended. The Constantine we will be getting will be the New 52 one, whose history has been revised as have many of the New 52 DC folks.

He was around before Vertigo, but I suspect that he may reappear in the nu52 with dark hair and live in Los Angeles.
He's been in the nu52 universe since its inception. Blond-haired, cigarette-smoking, British. He's apparently a bit smoother around the edges, but he's not Keanu in a comic book.

There's a reboot coming after rotworld.
