Hey, I was just wondering what this guy has written in the past. I'm pretty concerned for several of my favorite characters in the upcoming Avengers Arena, and I'm curious about this writer's previous credits, and whether or not he's a hack.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
The only thing of his I've read was the Legion of Monsters mini-series he did for Marvel late last year/early this year, which I quite enjoyed. Juan Does art didn't hurt, but I thought the writing was solid at the least (though he kind of shoehorned a romantic subplot in there).
I wouldn't worry if Legion of Monsters is any indication. That book was fast-paced, funny and still maintained a strong "comic book feel" with all of the fantastic settings and Morbius' doing his scientist thing.
I'm in the same boat as the OP in never having read his material prior to Avengers Arena.
He doesn't appear to be terrible, so I'm giving this series a shot, and it will be the testing ground on whether I decide to follow the writer or not. It paid off with Adam Glass on Suicide Squad, so here's to hoping we get something along that kind of success.

I read Legion of Monsters as well, and thoroughly enjoyed that. Nice combination of characters, and funny and exciting writing.
Although the idea of young characters getting killed is somewhat offputting (I haven't seen the Hunger Games yet, because that idea also didn't feel right to me), I'll probably pick up this book as I really like the cast of characters, and the one comic I read by Hopeless was very nice.

I really dislike the idea of putting fan-favorite characters into a meat grinder just to trump up a lame-### villain. If the series goes as I fear it may, I'll not buy another book written by him.
