Hey guys, so I'm trying to get my sister to join this game with me, I got her a few pieces today at a tournament. She loves X-Men and next month we're going to a constructed tournament. I don't know how many points, so I guess I'll ask for suggestions from 300pts to 600 pts.
Currently the team will be:
114 pt Emma Frost (MA10)
98 pt Storm (MA10)
She'll want to keep them as all X-Men, and it has to be Modern age. I am willing to buy pieces (I don't have a ton) but I don't want to spend a lot of money, and I don't need to go really hard (she doesn't need to win, and the venue isn't very competitive).
Well... I mostly do semi-competitive... so if she doesn't really need to win, just wants to have fun, I would suggest one of three things...
1) GSX Fast Forces - not powerhouses but all playable, all 75 points (I think) so very easy to team build with.
2) X-Men TabApp. If she's ok with the scuplts (I am), then these figures are ALL really good for X-Men.
3) Have her pick her favorite character, and then get the best version of that character you can. IE: Jean- Dark Phoenix, Cyclops-GSX Cyclops etc... then get something like the TabApp or GSX FF or just some other nice singles like Marvel Girl for cheap to round out.

jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
Thanks for the advice so far, guys. I've considered the GSX Fast Forces, that's definitely not a bad option. I don't know what the TabApp is off the top of my head.
When I say she doesn't really need to win, I mean, I want her to have a fighting chance, but I don't want to spend tons of money on it. One expensive piece is fine, but I'm not going to go all in because her skill level is the skill level one would expect of a young, new player.
I want her to have a well built team though, so I don't want her to just pick favorite characters. She likes Storm and Emma Frost so that's why we got them to start, but I want her to realize the different roles of pieces.
From looking at the pieces I would add the TabApp Wolverine, and probably the Magneto. That's the Brotherhood version, yeah, not the X-Men one?
So, if it's 500 I need 75 more points, or 175 for a 600 point tournament. What are the weaknesses on this team that anyone can see? Does it need support or anything?
TabApp are 3 packs of figures that can be purchased from hobby stores or retail stores like WalMart and Toys R Us, you can see them if you google TabApp Heroclix. They look more childish than regular Heroclix but are very good pieces.
There's a fair number of weaknesses to that team, as with almost all teams. It isn't terrible though. Off the top of my head, if I were looking to pick up some excellent, not too expensive X-Men I would probably look at
GSX Cyclops
GSX Professor X
GSX Psylocke
M10 Marvel Girl
I would imagine all but Professor X are only like $1-$2 each. And all are pretty solid/useful pieces. Dark Phoenix from M10 is really good at 100pts but she's pricey. X-Men aren't the most well rounded team in Clix. For the most part they don't have a lot of Perplex, Outwit or Prob (in Modern). So as a general rule you aren't going to have the easiest time hitting, however almost all of them hit fairly hard, so that's where X-men excel, lots of move and attack for good damage on reasonably priced pieces. You're usually looking to set-up so that you can attack with everyone on the following turn.
Hope that helps.

I would highly recommend the Fast Forces X-Men set. I use different combo's with them, the Emma that you're using and the Psylocke #023 from GSX. you could get the FF set and the Psylocke for close or under $25 and your sister would have a nice combo of characters to A. make a few different teams without getting bored fast B. have a nice combo of powers to play with , and C. get acquainted with the game . I especially love using Psylocke with the FF cuz she's got TK, she's a nice attacker and her 74 pts keeps her easy to add with the others.
Thanks for the suggestion man. I was able to pick up the Fast Forces GSX pack today, saw it in the local hobby shop on sale for Black Friday. I'll have her whip up a few teams, and I'll order a Psylocke.
This isn't exactly an X-Men team but I like to run the newest Mr. Sinister with GSX Psylocke and the three TabApp X-Men, technically it's a "Marauders" team due to Sinister's trait, but it's a fun as hell Marauders team.
Here's a relatively easy team to build at 600 points. All the figures should be relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain.
FFGSX003 Beast 75
FFGSX002 Wolverine 75
M10A014 Emma Frost 114
M10A020 Storm 98
GX008 Cyclops 110
GX036 Professor X 123
GXS101 Crimson Gem of Cyttorak 5
Total: 600
Theme team: X-Men, +6 to map choice, 4 theme team Prob Controls
I'd have Wolverine, then Beast, then Emma try to pick up the Crimson Gem.
If you don't have/can't get a Crimson Gem, then you can play the X-Force Additional Team Ability on Wolverine for three points, which allows him to ignore hindering terrain for movement, making him much more mobile.
