So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?
Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all, is:
THE AVENGERS
Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.
Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.
ALSO: I urge Any and All of you who have yet to do so, to go back to our older catalogue of RtM films (Very easily done by the Links List right on the top of the Rate The Movies Forum), and vote for your favorite, not so favorite, and anything in between movies. We have HEAPS there already, some Classics, some Crud, let's hear what YOU think about them ALL!
So, what say you all?

Oh the love. So much love. For this movie, for comics, for everyone who worked on it, for Marvel having the guts to do a straight-up comic book-style film series and in doing so thoroughly beat DC in the blockbuster competition...it just makes me giddy. There's really no other word for it.
9.5/10. It's not quite perfect, but damn it all if it isn't an absolute blast.
Great popcorn flick, no doubt, but the story is severely lacking.
7/10
I almost kind of have to agree.
I loved this movie. I enjoyed it. It was entertaining, I could find no real flaws with it that would ultimately detract from the storytelling.
I would even argue that this film makes a contribution to cinema history in not quite being a sequel, but still being a story that exists within the continuity of other films (Kevin Smith does this with his Jay and Silent Bob/Clerks films, so maybe it's not that uncommon).
In some ways, it's kind of artistic how not that the film depends on the context of other films, but that these collections of films are connected yet relatively independent of each other. I think that is the biggest lesson to take away from this film.
However, it's an adventure. It's a popcorn flick. There's cleverness to it as well as consistent characterization, but that doesn't make it anything more than well done entertainment.
I won't give it such a mediocre score as it does set the bar to a new standard.
However it's no Dark Knight, and also, it's no It's a Wonderful Life or Citizen Kane.
8.12 out of ten.
I might be a little rough with that one.
Eh . . .
I have no sekrets, I just am.

Awesome movie, just awesome. I cannot describe my joy with this movie, especially how bad ### they made the Hulk. It wasn't a perfect movie, but it was a perfect comic book movie, so based on that I'll rate it:
Special Effects: 10
Story: 10
Acting: 10
10/10
Yeah, I loved it. Saw it 2x in the theatre, and 2x 'On Demand', and I'd watch it again, and again.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
The Avengers is a textbook example of how to correctly make a fast-paced action/adventure film with an ensemble cast. All of our characters are given a brief, yet thorough introduction which shows the audience who they are, how they are as a person and what they are capable of. Each character is given distinct features of personality and appearance to set them apart from one another. They are all given comparable screen time, and opportunities to contribute towards driving the plot forward.
The plot itself is kept simple and straightforward. There are no side plots to introduce unneeded characters or over complicate the storyline. A complex story with lots of twists and turns is all well and good for a mystery story like The Usual Suspects. When it comes to a fast-paced action/adventure film featuring costumed superheroes, the simpler the better. The bad guy wants to conquer the world- period. Any attempt to make the story more complicated than that would only muddle things and slow down the pacing.
The action always exists to drive the plot forward, rather than just being an end to itself. Even when our heroes are fighting one another instead of the villain, there are clearly defined reasons for their doing so. When our heroes band together to fight the villain and his forces, their motivations are also clearly indicated instead of just being taken as read.
By the end of the movie, all of our heroes have been through a genuine arc. They are no longer the individuals they were at the beginning of the story, but have been forever changed by the events they have experienced together.
The results speak for themselves. The Avengers was not only a box office success, but it was also a critical success. Lots of films are able to claim one or the other, but very few enjoy both and never so extreme as this.
Fun and well done comic movie, but overly bloated at nearly three hours. Wasn't as strong or focused as it could have been, but still an enjoyable watch.
Eh, I dont know if Id call 2hr 20min "nearly three hours" really. Yes it was lengthy, but really it needed to be to encorporate ALL that it needed to, which personally I thought was done Beautifully. Kudos to Whedon and all involved, THIS is how a big budget Summer and/or Comic Book movie Needs to be done.

This was a great summer blockbuster. As far as Marvel's movies go, Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man 2, and Captain America are the very best IMHO. I give Avengers:
10/10
1/6th of the Brothers Prob. '19-'20 Season: 15-13(8 events) 2 wins, 2nd XDPS PR 9-7, 7th SOC
An awesome fun movie. Great visuals, witty dialogues, great humor, a pretty good story, great acting and interesting characters. Fun for the whole family. I gave it a 9/10... would have been a 10 but I thought that if you unknowingly watch this before watching the 5 built up movies (2 Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Cap Am), you'd either missed a lot of the jokes or won't appreciate the back movie referencing. Being Asian, I got to watch it before most Americans have and I did found myself advising them was to watch the other movies first.
