How does one truly use Superman to his best advantage? That goes for all versions (including and especially OWAW).
I play against three to five different Marvel teams all at the same time (Avengers/X-Men/Masters of Evil/etc.). Needless to say we field huge numbers (often 500 - 1000) and I'm always targeted by several opponents (I play JLA). To my credit and the credit of awesome clix like Batman, Superman, Nightwing, Flash, Steel etc. I win (just not all the time) despite overwhelming odds.
However, I've never really been able to bring the might of the Man of Steel to bear against these guys. Yes, he does well, but he's never been the brightest spot in any game. He's often targeted by the likes of Thor, Iron Man, Vision and many others right off in order to take him out early and this doesn't allow me to bring the true power of the Big Blur to bear. (Actually I think this tactic is why I win. While Superman fends off entire teams Bats, Plastic Man, Flash and others are busy jockeying for winning positions.)
Help me out. How is Superman best utilized? How is he best paired with other JLA members (all versions of JLA characters R/E/V - not just those with JLA team power)? How can you use Hypersonic Superman to scare the living doodoo outa your foes?
Team up an R-Plastic Man with Big Blue. If he perplexes OWAW's damage to 4, then Booster gold brings him in, then he grabs a heavy object, THEN smashes someone. 6 clicks of KA-BOOM!
Now, I like to use Bats and Flash as a support unit to keep others at bay (or at least make 'em think twice about coming in). If you can soften the ranks a little (or even spread them out) before Supes attacks you should be just fine. Even the fish-retard should be able to give you a helping hand. Just trust in the fact that he IS Superman and that he'll take down anything you need him to kill one-on-one. I'm yet to have a single figure that gives him trouble. There's always been a way around them.
Now, I'm also very big on supporting OWAW Supes with more than just JLA pieces. I use Hawk & Dove like there's no tomorrow, and they are a great bruising force alongside the Man Of Steel.
A last addition to follow up with, would be having Hawkman bring Steel in to help with whoever is giving Supes trouble. Yeah, they can choose to ignore Steel, but he won't ignore them.
Then again, this is just ideas coming from someone who has never been in a tournament (just friendly games so for...), so take this with a grain of salt.
Some are born great
Some achieve greatness
And some have greatness thrust upon them
Superman doesn't stand much of a chance in 500-1000 point multiplayer games. Against that many opponents he's too cramped for his superior mobility to be the advantage it should be and he's too much of your points to fend off everyone else if you're ganged up on.
In games like that your best bet is to field figures that will not have large bullseyes painted on their chests when you place them. Any big, tough figure will be targeted as a threat by your multiple opponents. No one can win a 3 on one battle. That's a ridiculous handicap.
That being said the tactics I use with OWAW in two player games are to pick my targets carefully. #1 is to attack any figures that have outwit. Second is to take out the ranged attackers starting with those that have the longest range. Third I go at the flyers that could hurt Supes with a close combat attack.
This is a very slow process since supes only makes one attack every two turns. The key is to only move in as close as you need to to get the shot off and then use your remaining movement to soar and back away as much as possible.
If you're hitting people with objects you're not trying to win.

This is what I've found also. Every time I waste time trying to close Superman + an object with a fig I get slammed. Sometimes it works out pretty well if circumstances are correct and someone's dumb enought to sit down within Sup's charge range of 5... But that doesn't happen very often.

Lucily, though, we play a home rules game on a massive scale with 3D constructs. There's usually enough room to even take advantage of UFlas' full movement of 20!
Thanks for the help.
Is there anoune out there who can explain to me the finer points of using Hypersonic Speed and Superman?
Ok, your best tactic is this.. remember, you only need save 1 movement to move up to soaring. ALWAYS do it. No range characters can't hit you and range to supes is reduced by half. Enjoy.
I've yet to lose him. And that includes a couple tourneys.
The secret is use HSS to move JUST within range of who you want to hit and Hit & Run. I always forget to Soar but soaring is the smartest tactic.
Secret two: (If playing with the Adventure Kits!)
Grab the 3D Table. It adds +2 to your Defense Value. Don't use it! Just Range attack (which as I last recall you are permitted to do while holding an object).
Nope, you are not permitted to make a ranged attack while holding an object except to throw said object.
Another good day at work. All the computers up and running. All employees happy and ready for tomorrow. All customers satisfied. All pigs fed and ready to fly."
K so your goin to play AWOW supes in a 500 to 1000 point game
this would be my stratagy you can choose the figs though
but i would use high damage characers with the lowest point values possible, so does that sound to broad k ill go into a little more detail =)
since he cost 236 try using figs between the point range of 75 and 125 for his back up and make sure he doesnt go out and attack first make sure of that
next use PC all of them if you can i dont like to play doubles so use R scarlet witch E black cat R destiny
now pick some taxies U wasp good V doombot good U goblin not bad either if you got him LE doctor doom LE adrian toomes
strategy hit all outwit characters fast and hard be it batman nightwing panther just have a MOD copy supes ability and hit these guys quick so you dont loose hypersonic or even more importantly impervious so you can PC impervious to take no damage that will sustain supes in the long run when he cleans up
EE you say poison you say dont fret to much just have U wasp cary supes around and land in hindering terrain that gives her a def of 20 hard to hit
so that my strategy for 500 to 1000 of course it will work better the more points are used
other noticables to use V flash has outwit and supersenses
mystique cheap perplex with stealth V human torch with U XP spiderman not the best guys but very much fun to play torch has 19 defense carrying spidey around and if spidey gets hit he has supersenses and outwit of course if you like your pizza with a lot of cheeze theirs always bullseye E firelord but not necessary you can win without em
but the big thing is dont use him for the first 3-4 turns then go all out if you have to have 2 taxis for him on to fly him in then he hypersonics and picks up a garbage bin and hits for 5 then runs back to another taxi to be flown back but thats only if you want to use him early
options are limitless
have fun

Some people are like Slinkies . . . not really good for anything,
but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

unless they have specified something new you can hold an object and use your range but who knows FAQs are plentyful these days

FanBoy, you're on the right track, however even B2B Supes could use a ranged attack since he's a flyer. Object MUST be used only in close combat actions.
Alright... Superman against Marvel is not going to look good for the boy in the red and blue. However, Superman against other DC characters for the same price is darn near unbeatable.
On an outdoor map, get LE Superman, V Booster Gold, and a Checkmate Medic. Fly out with Booster Gold carrying Superman., but don't use Superman till you are ready to attack. When the time comes, fly 10 with Booster Gold (picking up an object), then fly forward with Superman, using your Hypersonic Speed for a ranged attack against their ranged fighter (or stealthed Outwit) and ending your turn next to their healer opposite of the other flyers. Next turn, push Superman to attack the healer and return to Booster Gold. If Booster Gold is currently engaging the enemy, go soaring and wait out your turn.
Fight with Booster Gold (focusing on the ranged attackers and mind controllers). If all goes well, their grounded figures, without range can never touch Superman, and without the ability to heal, it's just a matter of flying down like a yo-yo, making a ranged or close combat attack, and returning to soaring mode.

This is all good advice, but I would like to add a few comments. First, make sure Supes has a taxi, and get creative with the taxi. Sure, you can use the taxi to fly supes all the way across the board, knock batman off his outwit, and then back up and soar. But you can also use the taxi to hypersonic in, shoot, hypersonic back out next to the taxi, and then have the taxi on the same turn carry Supes another 10 squares away and stand in the doorway so no one can get past. It's all good, you just want to make sure Supes doesn't take return-fire because one lucky roll on the part of your opponent can ruin your day.
Second, medics should probably be your number 2 target, not ranged attackers. For example, I'll usually hit Nightwing first to knock him off his outwit, then I'll push to hit the medic and knock him off his support, and then I'll use my taxi to get me out of dodge so Batman can't get me. That's two turns. The reason I go for Nightwing first is his defense stays high so he's hard to heal. After I clear I nail Batman off his outwit and from that point forward I've got the game won (usually). The reason you want to hit the medic is because you can only afford to push once. And if you spend a lot of actions knocking figures off their outwit, you don't want the medic to heal them and bring them right back up. The worst thing that can happen to you is getting your hypersonic speed outwit.
Thirdly, once you've dealt with all the outwitters it's not that bad to start smacking people with heavy objects. This is especially the case when going after a medic that you know has 4 clicks of healing. In that case it's sometimes worth it to grab an object and smash them with it so long as you can make it back to your taxi and get out of dodge.
Finally, IMHO the best way to deal with ranged attackers is to base them with Robin and Huntress who are my favorite OWAW Superman sidekicks. That will slow down the ranged attackers long enough for Superman to deal with the real threats first.
You'll notice that a lot of this is similar to what A Higher Level said, just a little more detailed. I only disagree with A Higher Level in that rookie Booster Gold has the same movement of 10 for substantially less than the Veteran. And I don't believe in using a medic with Superman because his defense remains too high to heal until he's VERY beat up and at that point you have to roll a really high support number to get him back on hypersonic anyway. If he loses hypersonic, I just prefer to grab a motorcycle and bring it on!
My favorite team is R. Booster, 2 x R. Huntress, OWAW Supes. And the great thing about that team is you can acutally use Supe's leadership on the first turn.
Now, Darkseid seems to own OWAW Superman. I have no advice on how to deal with him in sub-300 games. In higher games just put an outwitter on your team to get rid of Darkseid's outwit.
