Suction: When an opposing character hits Ultimate Clayface with a close combat attack, after the attack resolves, the opposing character rolls a d6. On a result of 1-3, that character immediately ends its action. Suffocate: Ultimate Clayface can use Plasticity. Opposing characters adjacent to Ultimate Clayface can't automatically break away and can't ignore Ultimate Clayface for movement purposes. When an adjacent character fails to break away from Ultimate Clayface, it is given an additional action token. Burning Touch: Ultimate Clayface can use Poison. When he does, roll a d6 and compare: 1-2 no damage is dealt. 3-4 damage is dealt normally. 5-6 the damage dealt is penetrating.
Flash uses HSS from 5 squares away to strike Clayface.
Does Suffocate apply to him? Or just Suction.
If Suffocate applies, does flash roll for break-away after the HSS attack (and after the suction roll...)
"And I shall make little coins with my head on them and place them in the thongs of your strippers."
If you hit 1-3, Flash ends his action right there and then.
Next turn, if he attempts to flee, Suffocate comes in.
They don't seem to pair up.
That's how I read it. 50% chance that Flash will get stuck next to Ultimate Clayface when doing a HSS attack. If he gets stuck, then he needs to worry about the Suffocate power next turn. (And the Burning Touch too!)
Just to make sure we're all on the same page. The controversy (from another thread) was about "Opposing characters adjacent to Ultimate Clayface can't automatically break away and can't ignore Ultimate Clayface for movement purposes."
The issue would then be: suppose the Flash moves adjacent to Clayface (and there's an attack made, but that's not relevant). Then, the Flash wants to continue his movement. However, since he's currently adjacent to Clayface, he can't ignore Clayface for movement purposes (even though HSS would normally allow him to). But, HSS *doesn't* let Flash ignore characters for movement purposes. What it does is give "running man" "double circle", meaning "improved movement: may move through squares adjacent to opposing characters". Moving through squares adjacent to opposing characters is not something Clayface's power specifically prevents; therefore, the Flash can move away... unless Suction stops him continuing the action after an attack.

OK. The improved movement lets him move through squares adjacent to opposing characters, but it must still break away normally. HSS specifically grants the auto-break portion.
Suffocate trumps HSS in this case, and Flash would need to break away to continue his movement.

Right. All this is correct.
Clayface is basically a really good tie up piece.

No, Break away only occurs when a character starts to move. In the case of HSS the attack is done during the movement. So there's no break away after the attack.
Right. Break away only occurs when two conditions are met:
1) The character is beginning a movement of some kind
2) The character is adjacent to an opposing character
Meeting only one of those criteria (being adjacent to the Crusier) does not require break away. Now, if the HSS character was already adjacent to the Cruiser when you tried to use HSS, that's a different ball of wax.

Why would that be a controversy. There's no doubt that's the way it works.
