ok so im new to the entire heroclix world in general... just got a new job and now I can pretty much only play once a week, which honestly isnt enough for me... (im hoooked :P)
Im debating buying HCO but Im also short on cash right now so Im curious as to how I come accross obtaining more figs for HCO, are the prices equivalent to buying boosters of real figs? or is it fluxuated since they are all digital items?
TLDR: How much could I plan on spending if I decide to play HCO?
HCO has price dropped recently. $2 gets you the game and a starter set (FF or Blackest Night). $5 gets you credit which can be used to buy single random figs or various starter sets. The other of the 2 starters you chose from will run you 2 bucks. Others are almost $7. Single randoms cost about $1. Any of the recent Fast Forces sets came with HCO codes in them which are a great help for starting your army.
Frankly, I wouldn't buy it right now.
If you want to drop $2 on a starter and play for a while, you've not lost much.
But there's been a DRAMATIC drop in play the last month or so. There used to be 30-45 players online almost every night. Which I don't think is enough to sustain any game long term. But very recently, I've seen no more than 19 players, even on the weekends. Nobody is in chat, and there are few games.
I've not seen the "regulars" on either.
My experience has been very different from top dog. I can find a fun game just about ay time at night (central time zone). It sounds like your situation is a lot like mine. You love the game but cannot play live as much as you like. HCO is perfect for that. You can honestly have fun on the site for less than $10. You'll get the game, a starter set and spend the rest on a few of your favorite characters. You can get a ton of commons for free from veterans on the site. If you every see me online, I'll toss you at least 30 clix for free. Just communicate in chat that you are new and can't stand up to a cheese team and you will find players willing to play some fun games with you. If you just post a game in the lobby without chatting, you may end up facing a team of LEs and Chases that you can't compete with. If you communicate 1st, you will find a fun game.
Buy it and try it. Worst case scenario you are out $2. best case... you can feed your addiction at times that are convenient for you.
I just purchased it, it was 2$ and am in the same boat as you, i dont ge tto play as much as id like and figured its only 2$ and will give me a reason to use the codes now instead of throwing them away. Glad i still got my Trinity tabbapp code, whew =D

The above is super true, in my experience. I'm also more than happy to support new players with free pieces. If you see me, give a shout! I will give you things :D
Not to derail the thread but I have a question because I'm also contemplating purchasing: Is there a two player offline option for this? Silly question I know, but I'm just wondering.
No offline mode for the game. A friend and you would need to simultaneously log in and start a match from two different CPU's.
It's decent for the $2 buy in and I'd suggest dropping $5-10 in, as a lot of commons/uncommons from available sets are routinely auctioned off cheap in the auction house. 1 CB = $.05, and most auction house commons/uncommons can be had for anywhere between $.05-.50 a piece.
