There was an unexpected treat for Suicide Squad fans, a collection called Deadshot: Beginnings reprinting the Ostrander mini and several other early appearances.
But not Batman #59, Deadshot's first appearance, which has never been reprinted, not back when DC filled 100 page giants with reprints and not now in an Archive or Chronicle (the former series is nearly 30 issues away).
Please consider tweeting at DC or posting on their Facebook page asking them to correct this. The book is not due out until November and hasn't even formerly been solicited yet. Together, we can change this.

I just looked up his first appearance and I totally understand why they would choose to leave it out. He's not the same character, looks or personality-wise. He just has the same name...
I mean, I guess it's a tricky subject because it's a matter of choosing between the character's history in relation to publication history and the characters history in relation to who he is in comics. It would be like leaving Detective Comics #1 out of a Detective Comics Anthology. It's important as a 1st issue, but in terms of the series as a whole it's not anything.
In principle, I like the idea of a campaign to get that story reprinted, but campaigning for it in a comic that is already solicited is just banging your head up against a wall. By the time they've assigned a price point and announced something like this, the contents are pretty much set in stone.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
1. The comic actually has not officially been solicited yet. DC dumped out a list of upcoming collections stretching well into 2014. The Deadshot TPB is due out in November.
2. Even if it had been, DC has cancelled and resolicited a few collections with altered contents lately, including the Ellis Stormwatch HCs and the Absolute Blackest Night collection. In particular, if they could alter the latter, they can do this.

It's definitely not as important as 'Tec #474, but given how DC has greatly slowed the pace of the Archives and how often the Chronicles books come out, I feel as though trying this is the only way I might get the issue reprinted in the next decade.

Given the fact that the first appearance was still referenced and incorporated into Deadshot's character up until the Flashpoint reboot, I'd say it's important enough to be included. Give Secret Six #15 a read if you care to see how Ostrander brought it back in modern comics.

Well, I hope you are right. His first appearance would be something for the fans, although the difference in tone between that appearance and the stuff they are planning to include would be pretty stark. I'm trying to decide if that contrast would make it fascinating or simply uneven.

My thought, and I'm not terribly passionate about the issue mind, but I do like Joe so I support him anyway, is that if you're going to chronicle the history of a character, chronicle the history of the character.
Actually his first appearance HAS been reprinted. I would have to see if I could find out where but I know I found it in a book I checked out of the library. It featured him in his first appearance as a millionaire playboy and his costume looking like Snidley Whiplash

The GCBD by contrast does list Batman from the 30s to the 70s as including something from Batman #59, but is non specific as to what (there are several stories in the issue) and CBDB does not list anything from Batman #59 in its contents. Given that Deadshot wouldn't be revived until six years after that book was published, it would be an odd choice to include.
