Who is also really sick of 80's nostalga?

i take it you didn't grow up with the 80's toons and comics?

decade revivals always come around 70's...80's pretty soon even the 90's

you get used to it

I love the 80s nostolgia....then again, I grew up in the 80s....

and the first transformers

cartoons are too wimpy now-a-days

No I did grow up in the eighties. Born in 1972, so I actually remember when regan got elected.

My point is that firstly, this stuff was kinda cheezy back then as it was. The writing on television in the 70's and 80's was so bad. The dialogue was so bad. Ok, so megatron, and pac man was all we had. but gods......when you compare it to the new stuff, I mean the well written Batman-Superman-JLA animated stuff is SOOOOO much better.

What i am asking is how can you go back to TAB when you have tasted Ambrosia? After you have seen the Batman Beyond "Return of the Joker" and you've seen Robin Tortured and turned into the joker. How can you go back to Lion-o going "HOOOOOO"?

I'm a fan of the Beastwar Transformer stuff, but because it actually ADVANCED the plot, and sophisticated it. But now? the Old Cartoons were hokey enough, and this Armada Garbage has topped it in bad taste.

I'm gripeing a bit I know, but I wouldn't so much mind doing modern spins on old stuff, if you'd learn from what DC and Marvel Comics have done. Sophisticate the plots and characters, to fit the audience that has aged since then.

I don't mean to alienate the kids either, but they have plenty of Poke this and Yu-Gi-that. There is no short supply of bubblegum characters for a younger audience.

I've red all the Dream Wave comics, and I've watched enough Cartoon Network, to formulate this complaint on how the stories of the old characters is being written.

and that is to say...pretty badly.

I admit that watching the cartoons that I worshipped as a child gives me brain cramps...

But it is remembering the bliss that is childhood innocence that watching these shows brings, that is the reason.

Do I watch these show everyday? No. I watch them every now and then to remember that which is lost.


And Voltron was better than most. IIRC it had a (semi-)advancing plot...

Reading this again, most of it makes no sense, but I was never very good with words...

I love all the 80's reflux we're currently having. I love G I Joe, Transformers, Voltron, Thundercats, etc etc. I don't care if the writing wasn't the best, the shows were the best. I'll never be sick of my 80's cartoons.

I have to say that the spider man cartoons from the 80's before and his amazing friends was good stuff. And the camio appearences alone in the amazing friends series was enough to still allow me to watch it on Fox Family. Oh, and Scooby Doo still kicks butt today (pre scappy).

hear hear.... Mr. Miller (gods I wish i knew him well enough to call him Frank) has eloquently stated the point i was trying to make.

Just cuz it was a part of our childhood, doesn't mean it's worth re-living as an adult. In fact: it oftentimes disenchants us with the way things were, since as adults we are much harder to impress. (as an example i point at Star Wars)

I'm sooooo confused!! Part of me agrees part of me does not. I despise Armada, RID and any other transformesr since beast wars and that includes Beast Machines. He-man just hasn;t been able to surpase the old ones and Gi-Joe I enjoy reading, but wasn't really that into them back in the day.

I enjoyed what dreamWorks has done with the Transformers and Joes because they had the villians Grow into the threats they SHOULD have been before. they seem to be written by people who liked the old stuff but realized its lameness. Same with the Thundercats: the Return. They are writting for US! He-man has an origin now and all the people who fight with him use the Weapons the TOYS came with!!!

I've been pretty pleased with any thing they have written/shown that doesnt' contradict the old stuff but tries to keep the same characters. Armada and such take good names and run them throught the wringer

Don't get me wrong I hope they don't go that much farther, if we start seeing updates on the Go-bots and smurfs there may be mass suicides.

Smurfs for the 21st century YEAH!!!! Sign me up!!!!!! Hopefully Gargamel finally gets to eat those blue bastages and beeeatch!


The Justice League Cartoon is awesome but I still love watching the Superfriends to get a good laugh now and then. Also there's a cool site on the web with a COOL superfriends drinking game. www.seanbaby.com

If they redid the smurfs they should do it Realworld style, that would be cool. Of course Smurfette would be REALLY popular maybe do the show like the bachlorette?!?! That would be f'n funny!
